Chapter 982: More Info
"Honestly, I wish I could say I had it worse, but my childhood was pretty tame compared to yours," Rael said matter-of-factly.
Gaia sighed. "Well, it’s not a competition. Afterwards, my life was pretty tame for the most part. I grew up, killed the imperial family, then did some research, bettered my powers, and after getting strong enough, I shifted to a much more powerful world."
Chuckling, she added:
"Dungeons were only added after Uriel Ark’s system. I was born around the same time as him, and yeah... It was much harder to get stronger back then. Tomes, powers of all sorts, stuff you essentially needed to learn. Now, you can just get gifted a skill and it is able to end worlds. It’s stupid."
Rael shrugged. "I mean, stupid or not, I guess that’s kind of my predecessor. Not that I’m offended or anything. I just feel like with this kind of system in place, there were more opportunities to get stronger. It’s just that he placed a shit ton of limits."
Speaking of limits, Rael was able to feel every single hidden tower and civilization scattered throughout the multiverses. Every single one... And there were roughly 15,284 multiverses he was in control of, each containing an immeasurable amount of people.
And all of those people in their respective universes made up just 1% of the possible population. The remaining 99% were stuck in those prisons Uriel had made. Though... The books never mentioned that place. Why was that?
"Trailing off a bit?" Gaia snapped him out of it.
Rael smiled. "A little. Though on a brighter note, I’m glad you trusted me enough to share this kind of stuff. I know it must’ve been hard."
She shrugged. "I’m old. It’s bothersome, but it’s by no means difficult."
"Aha... Well, if you say so. To be honest, I kind of want to travel to that timeline and snoop around for a bit, see what’s going on, and how stuff used to be, I guess," Rael said, falling into thought.
"With my power pretty much unlocked, I can place myself in that point in time while keeping this timeline ongoing, so every second I spend there would be translated to out here too."
But before he could let his curiosity go a little further, Gaia went ahead and bonked him over the head, snapping the stupid thoughts right out of him.
"That’s enough trying to go where you don’t belong. If you do that, you’re going to be in a bunch of trouble, not just by me scolding you, but also the timeless Concepts, the current Rulers of Reality, and several dozen other beings that existed during that time frame, all of whom either ascended or have been killed off."
"Ah. Sorry," Rael replied, rubbing his head as another thought popped into his mind. "Hey, how do you think Renoir knew where his wife was?"
"Hmm?" Gaia tilted her head. "That’s random. What do you mean?"
"I mean, it’s common knowledge between us that there are a bunch of towers like that, and the odds of being transported into any one of the trillions that existed were... well, random. So how did he find his wife in that specific one?" Rael mumbled.
Thinking about it, he felt like from the very start, something just tied those two together. What was it?
"Hehe. I don’t mean to take your spot of being cheesy, but I feel like it might be fate at play. Love, despite its shackles, is always at least partially reachable," Gaia said, then tapped him on the shoulder and stood up.
"Now, if you don’t mind. Let’s go to the hot springs."
The moment Rael heard hot springs, all his serious thoughts and all the bullshit ideas he had come up with inside his mind vanished. It was as though his brain had short-circuited.
On the other hand, Gaia knew very well what she was doing here. In fact, she was counting on him being a pervert, since she did want to see just what kind of reaction her body would get out of him.
But... He had already seen her naked and didn’t react much. That was back when she first manifested inside his Mind Realm. Perhaps, at the time, he had too much on his mind to have any lustful thoughts, though he had been sleeping with his wife quite frequently since then...
What an odd being he was, and what strange concepts love and lust were. Alas, she felt neither love nor lust at the moment, only curiosity. But she did want to experience both at least once before she eventually died... which would probably be in a couple more eons, at least.
"You coming?" she asked once more.
Finally, Rael stood up as well, nodding enthusiastically. "Stab me with a sword if you ever see me refusing a request to go to a hot spring."
"Even if that request comes from a woman you don’t know?" Gaia quizzed.
Rael rolled his eyes. "Why would I go to a hot spring with a woman I don’t know? I’m only going now because I’m planning to check you out."
Gaia let out a chuckle. "You’re not even trying to hide it?"
"Why would I? You can read my mind, and you can feel my thoughts too."
Yes, she could. There was a bit of lust involved, and maybe a slight, very small amount of love. At least he wasn’t foolish enough to fall for someone who was clearly uninterested in him. Maybe things wouldn’t really work out between them.
In the end, she was the avoidant type, the same type that would do nothing but push away those she even remotely got close to. That was how she lived in the past too, and that was how she had remained a virgin throughout all these eons.
But even so, curiosity killed the cat. Whether it was going to backfire on her, she was about to find out.
