Chapter 2444: Lady Bug

The lady bug landed on the metal collar.

"You get used to your new strength till midnight. We will attack at sunrise."

Sam gave those instructions and just checked the surveillance from all the bird puppets outside of the city. As he expected, the Zeus academy students didn't just give in. They wanted to convince the natives to stay.

However, the videos playing outside didn't give the natives much hope. The first ones to come out of the cities were of course the ones that lost the most in the Zeus academy hands and ones that have too much to lose if things went sideways.

People with kids and families, first looked at the Zeus academy students and forces. They wanted to believe that their new allies would stand up against this threat that arrogantly announced itself.

But they couldn't get any confidence. At least most of them.

So, they started going into the circles, triggering a chain reaction. They were given a token by the bird puppet that sent the country that Sam promised not to touch.

Until midnight, the Zeus academy students witnessed the biggest exodus they have ever seen. Almost all the natives left. They understood the weak and powerless leaving.

But to their surprise, even their new allies left and they couldn't do jack shit about it. They just made some more deals hoping that they could at least preserve the alliance to survive after the battle with Sam is over.

The natives also didn't care much and signed them.

After all, they are not even sure if these people will survive Sam. Who cares about the alliance that comes after that?

By midnight, everyone that wanted to leave, left. The Zeus academy students meanwhile, used this time to get more forces and reinforced the first city to the extreme. Since Sam said that he would only use a beast and some puppets, they got ready with everything they had.

They recalled and referred to all the knowledge they could gather and tried to implement countermeasures.

If they can stop this beast in the first city itself, that would be their victory. Even though they are scared of Sam, the hope made them work harder. They felt like they could win.

At dawn. They could see the sun slowly rising in the horizon. The first city Sam targeted is packed with people. Hundreds of them are standing behind the formation, awaiting the arrival of the beast. The ranged attackers are perched on the walls or hovered in the sky, ready with their attacks loaded.

They used every enhancement they could find. Every artifact that they could equip themselves with was used.

As their hearts raced, almost reverberating in the silence, a couple of hundred meters away from the city, a spatial tear opened up and a large tiger came out. The metal collar around its neck started glowing.

Black colored misty energy spread throughout its body through that collar.

The tiger's roar shook the skies and it ran towards the city. Its aura fierce and its thirst for blood apparent.

*BOOM*

With a unified explosion all the ranged attacks came at the tiger. But it didn't show any intention to dodge, or block the attacks. It just kept on running and its momentum increased.

*BOOM*

For a moment, the tiger disappeared in the rain of attacks, but it just walked through them. Only then did they see the barrier that appeared around the tiger. It was a translucent black barrier that blocked all the attacks.

After a couple of seconds it just disappeared.

By now, it was a bit too late. The tiger is already at the city entrance. It was fast.

It leaped on to the barrier dome. Its claws brightened up as they landed on the dome.

*BOOM*

It was like a clap of thunder. The claws tore through the dome like they were going through butter.

*BAM*

With another explosive sound, the barrier collapsed and the tiger landed in the city.

*BOOM* *BOOM*

The attacks came, but it didn't faze the tiger. Even though the durability of the barrier is reducing, it did remember Sam's instructions. It turned to the nearest target and slammed its claw.

The man was sent flying into a group not too far away. He was dead with a single blow. The black energy aura that was oozing from the tiger's body seeped into his body through the injury.

The tiger leaped around and swung its claws. The spiritual energy condensed into the claw shape and it rampaged. Tens of people died at the same time.

At the same time, as it took a barrage of attacks, the glow on the collar reduced a bit. All of a sudden, the people near the tiger, felt a surge of energy being sucked from the surroundings. The faint cracks on the collar disappeared and its barrier is being strengthened again.

But that wasn't most shocking thing. The lady bug on the tiger's collar suddenly came out of its notch. Its wings spread and as it flew around. From underneath its wings, smaller bugs, akin to mosquitoes flew out and they zoomed to the corpses.

The misty black energy trailed behind the lady bug. It looked like fairy dust, apart from its eerie and corrupt nature.

The people saw it, but couldn't focus on it too much. Everyone was targeting the tiger. They couldn't just comprehend how one barrier can hold that many attacks. They doubted even if the city formation could have blocked so many moves.

Still, they gained on the tiger soon enough.

They surrounded, kept the distance, restricted its movements and used ranged attacks. They even managed to block some of its attacks.

However, what they didn't notice is what the lady bug was doing. Some did try to attack it, but it was quick.

The black energy it emanated was way too eerie and they tried their best to ignore that. As for the mosquitoes with that faint black glow… they couldn't care less about them.

While they ignored it, the mosquitoes themselves didn't slack off. They reached the dead bodies, landed on them and injected the black energy.

Their black glow reduced and dimmed. They immediately went back into the lady bug and disappeared into its body.

The black patterns on the deadbodies intensified and the next moment…

*SWOOSH*

Shadows rose up from the dead bodies. Their eyes glowed and locked on to the lady bug. A connection was established and the next thing they did was pick up the dead bodies they came out of, and threw them.

The bodies disappeared as soon as they approached the lady bug and dozens of mosquitoes flew out again.

The shadows, immediately made a move. They attacked the people that were attacking the tiger.

The sudden appearance and attacks, caught them off guard. More than the dozens of buzzing mosquitoes that came at them. And this time, the mosquitoes didn't just focus on the deadbodies, they went after the injured ones as well.

More shadows emerged from the ground. The pressure on the tiger was reduced by a large margin. Its movements were no longer restrictive and jumped around once again.

The leaders in charge of the forces, looked at the scene unfold with their bodies trembling and eyes widened.

They witnessed the whole process. Within an instant, dozens of their people have turned into shadow undead and the lady bug collected their corpses. Except for the hand held weapons which were taken by the shadows that came, the bug devoured the armors as well.

The more items went in, the more mosquitos came out and soon they went after the living people as well. The death energy invaded their bodies. It was the purest form once could possible extract and it ravaged their bodies. Their death quickened with the shadow undead and of course the tiger.

Soon, the tiger is followed around by dozens of undead shadows. They helped defend it, blocked the ranged attacks with kamikaze if necessary, killed anyone that approached. The tiger finally felt relieved. The barrier is no longer necessary.

It can move much more freely and it did, exactly that.

The city was thrown into a mayhem.

People died in matter of seconds and the battle turned tide in a matter of minutes. The leaders in particular are sweating bullets. They just realized that no matter how high they placed Sam and how dangerous they thought he was, they fell behind in their expectations.

They had never seen something like this.

A beast enhanced with an army of shadow undead. And its almost like there is no limit to the number of shadows it created. Some members did destroy the shadows, however, they regenerated pretty quickly.

They soon realized what the problem was. It's the bug. But they couldn't do shit about it. When someone tried to attack, it blinked and disappeared. When they tried to time it and attack, a barrier appeared around it and it's a recoil barrier that sent it away.

Before they could do much, the shadow undead focused on those specific attackers and killed them.

With just one invention, Sam brought the city down to his knees.
