Clues?
Does that mean this person didn’t think there was any problem at all?
Wait, actually, there isn’t anything wrong with what Pei Ziyu did, but she just didn’t understand. Why is she getting angry? She shouldn’t be angry.
Another wait, what is she angry about? Oh, she’s angry because Pei Ziyu is treating her like a child. By doing this, isn’t Pei Ziyu treating her as a child? They are a couple, why can’t they live together?
Mei Mengzhen felt somewhat aggrieved, but she was too embarrassed to ask such a question. It would seem as if she were too eager.
However, since Pei Ziyu hadn’t realized it, what was there for her to ponder over? Immediately afterward, she switched her mood, "It’s nothing. I was just a little frustrated before, but I’m fine now."
Having said that, Mei Mengzhen linked her arm through Pei Ziyu’s and pulled him along, browsing and eating as they went.
The food here was all snack-sized, and although not uncommon, these snacks often tasted very different depending on where they were made. Hence, Mei Mengzhen bought some to taste.
After eating the snacks, they moved on to Lamp City ahead. The whole street was dedicated to the market, which wasn’t particularly spectacular, but the bright colors generally attracted children.
By Lamp City, there was a river with boats decorated with lights. It was a scenic view only good for a look, not particularly fun.
After a complete walk through Lamp City and it getting late, they returned to the hotel to rest in their respective rooms. However, once back in the room, Mei Mengzhen’s frustrated mood rose again. In this mood, she gradually fell into a deep sleep.
Half-asleep, Mei Mengzhen seemed to hear hurried footsteps passing by the door; she thought she was dreaming and turned over, falling asleep again.
Then, Mei Mengzhen heard rapid knocking sounds and Pei Ziyu’s anxious shouting, "Zhenzhen, quickly get up. The hotel is on fire, Zhenzhen."
Fire? The word jolted Mei Mengzhen awake from her muddled state. She bolted up from the bed, slipped on her shoes, and went to the door. As she opened it, she saw many people rushing towards the stairs. Pei Ziyu grabbed her hand and they ran downstairs together. Mei Mengzhen called out in a panic, "Brother Pei!"
"Don’t be afraid, Zhenzhen. Let’s talk after we get down."
The hotel was only five stories tall and without an elevator, which you wouldn’t use in case of a fire anyway. Thus, the crowd surging downstairs was quite large. During the descent, Mei Mengzhen almost fell several times due to others stumbling into her, but Pei Ziyu firmly caught her each time.
A panicked crowd rushed out of the hotel and gathered on the slope in front of the entrance, which was at a distance from the hotel, ensuring that even a large fire wouldn’t reach there.
Having reached safety, the crowd turned to look back, but upon closer examination, there was no sign of fire. Mei Mengzhen asked in confusion, "What’s going on? How could there be a fire? And where is the fire? Where is it burning?"
Pei Ziyu was also clueless, "I heard the fire alarm from my room. By the time I opened the door, people were already running down."
More and more people were gathering on this slope, and the noisy discussions grew louder, but there was still no sign of fire. Just as they were about to head to the hotel to inquire about the situation, a hotel worker came out and said to everyone, "Everyone can return to their rooms to rest now. The alarm was triggered by a child pressing it by mistake, there is no fire in the hotel. On behalf of the hotel, I offer my apologies for the incident, and you can all go back to your rooms to rest now."
But the explanation didn’t satisfy the crowd, "No, just because you say there’s no fire doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Who knows if you’re just trying to trick us back inside? As for the alarm being triggered by a child, that fire alarm design is ridiculously unsafe, to allow a child to trigger it so easily."
"That’s not it, we were so panicked running out that we didn’t grab our room keys. How are we supposed to go back? Moreover, many people fell. Just like that, only a mere apology for the injuries?"
"Exactly, I scraped my leg. We came here to have fun, not to get hurt. With my leg like this, how am I supposed to enjoy the rest of my trip?"
"I’m in the same boat. My arm hurts like hell. In the rush, I don’t even know who bumped into me."
"I was in such a rush that I didn’t even close my room door. If someone took advantage of the confusion and something gets stolen, who will be held responsible?"
The hotel worker said, "We’ll take responsibility for any losses. Injured customers can come here to register. If there are any lost items, please check in your rooms and come back to us to register, and we’ll discuss a solution."
"So, who is the child that played this prank? Didn’t their parents teach them anything?"
At that moment, an indignant parent retorted, "It’s just a child, they know no better. How could you not spare a child? Do you have no humanity?"
Next to this parent stood a child, about half the height of an adult; on the child’s face, there was not a trace of fear or distress, instead, they smirked at those who spoke up.
Unwilling to relent, someone argued back, "The fire alarm button isn’t low to the ground; a very small child wouldn’t be able to reach it. If the child were any bigger..."
If the child were any bigger, then they should have known better. Should a fire alarm button be something to play with?
Before the other parent could respond, the hotel worker immediately said, "Our hotel is already reviewing the surveillance footage. This incident has greatly affected us, and we will pursue responsibility."
Upon hearing this, the parent escorting the child immediately became defensive, "Hold on, it was just a child being mischievous, how can you talk about responsibility over such a trivial matter? How can you adults be so petty with a child?"
While speaking, the parent shielded their child, and it wasn’t hard to guess the outcome. Someone promptly accused, "It must have been your child, wasn’t it? The child is old enough to know what they can and can’t play with. Look at the trouble your child caused, and now we can’t even get some rest."
"Do you have any proof? Without proof, don’t falsely accuse someone. My child is innocent. Don’t blame my child for something they didn’t do just because you can’t find the culprit. My child is very well-behaved and wouldn’t do such things."
All the while, the parent’s child was raising a fuss, paying no mind to the adults arguing. When they saw others going back upstairs, the child insisted on going up too. The parent, not heeding the child’s request, was kicked by them. Perhaps feeling that the kick wasn’t sufficient, the child continued to kick several more times and even hit them several times. Out of options, the parent took the child and moved away from the scene.
