Rebirth in 1986: Unforgettable Regrets

Chapter 1282: He’s Back

Chapter 1282: Chapter 1282: He’s Back

"You’re going on another business trip?" Tang Yue looked at Si Yu with such reluctance, thinking he was going on another business trip.

"No." Si Yu held her, wishing he could hide her away for only himself to see.

Tang Yue examined him and asked, "If it’s not a business trip, what’s with that expression? Is something wrong?"

Tang Yue rested her chin on one hand, leisurely studying Si Yu, as if trying to figure out what was making him so hesitant to speak.

"Xiao Yue, Dad wants us to go back to the Meng Family for dinner." Si Yu said word by word.

"Then let’s go."

Tang Yue replied without a second thought. After all these years since acknowledging Meng Jin, although she hadn’t completely forgotten what Grandpa Meng did before, at least she treated it like visiting a relative.

Usually, during the Chinese New Year and festivals, she wouldn’t necessarily go back to the Meng Family every time, but at least they have meals together quite often.

"Could it be..." After answering, Tang Yue sensed something was off. If it were just an ordinary meal at the Meng Family, Si Yu wouldn’t have been so hesitant. She stared at Si Yu, thinking for a long time before saying, "Is he back?"

"My wife is just so clever." Si Yu extended his long arm, pulling her into his embrace, complimenting her while inhaling the fragrance of her hair.

"Even if he’s back, it’s fine."

Settled in his arms, Tang Yue said, "From the moment I recognized the Meng Family, I knew I would have to face him sooner or later. He’s not a tiger; he can’t eat me, can he? So many years have passed; I suppose he... has lost any intentions, anyway."

"Besides, you would protect me, right?"

Tang Yue wrapped her arms around his waist, looking up at Si Yu with complete trust in her eyes.

"Yes." Si Yu replied firmly, tightening his grip.

...

Hospital.

By the time Zhou Cheng came out, half the morning had passed. Once it was confirmed that Zhou Cheng was not in any life-threatening danger, Zhu Liniang was persuaded to go rest, and Tang Jun took over keeping watch by Zhou Cheng’s side.

Zhou Cheng was young, and although he was severely injured in the car accident, fortunately, he was saved in time. As long as he recuperated well, he could eventually return to being lively as before.

"You should get some sleep too." Taking advantage of the current lull, Yuan Yu suggested that Tang Jun also take a rest; Tang Jun’s eyes were bloodshot.

"It’s alright, I can manage." Tang Jun didn’t want to leave.

After several failed attempts to persuade him, Yuan Yu stopped trying and instead helped out with Zhou Cheng’s matters as much as possible when she was free, to ease Tang Jun’s load.

Yuan Yu didn’t go home after her shift but took Zhu Liniang to her place for a bath and change of clothes.

"Sister Zhu, just turn on the hot water, it’s ready. These clothes are new; I haven’t worn them yet." Yuan Yu handed over a set of new clothes.

"Oh, I can’t accept this; just give me a set of your old clothes."

Zhu Liniang hesitated to take the brand-new clothes, still with tags on them.

Yuan Yu smiled and said, "Sister, I have many outfits. I usually wear my work uniform, so I rarely use them."

"Clothes are meant to be worn. If I don’t wear them, they’re just going to sit in the wardrobe unused."

"Besides, I often wear the old clothes myself, so I’d feel bad giving them to you."

Yuan Yu usually wore a white coat over her clothes at work, making her outfits underneath pointlessly pretty, so she dressed very simply, despite having quite a few clothes. In reality, she rotated wearing only about four or five sets.

Her sincere and kind smile made it hard for anyone to feel uncomfortable, so Zhu Liniang decided to accept the new clothes, planning to return the favor next time with a set of clothes.

Zhu Liniang took a quick shower while Yuan Yu was making soup in the kitchen. She said, "Sister, I bought some bones to make broth. You can take some for Xiao Cheng to drink."

"Sister, please don’t refuse. Tang Jun and I are friends, and friends should help each other." Yuan Yu’s bright smile made her request hard to decline, adding, "My place is close to the hospital, so it’s very convenient for me to make meals for Xiao Cheng. Please don’t feel like you’re imposing."

When Zhu Liniang returned to the hospital ward with the soup, Zhou Cheng was awake. She was overly excited, asking, "Xiao Cheng, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? Hungry? Hurts?"

"Mom, I’m not in pain." Zhou Cheng shook his head sensibly. Uncle Tang had already told him that his mom had desperately tried to save him, staying up all night long. Seeing his mom’s swollen eyes from crying, Zhou Cheng earnestly said, "Mom, don’t cry."

"It’s all Mom’s fault."

Zhu Liniang choked back tears, and the more considerate Zhou Cheng was, the more she loved her son and wished she could bear the pain for him.

"Mom, I’m not in any pain."

Zhou Cheng, anxious at seeing Zhu Liniang cry, tried to sit up.

Tang Jun quickly comforted both Zhou Cheng and Zhu Liniang, saying, "Sister, you shouldn’t cry. If you do, Xiao Cheng might cry too, and what if his wounds reopen?"

"Right, I won’t cry. Xiao Cheng, don’t move; we don’t want to open up your wounds again." Zhu Liniang finally realized, wiping her tears away, and fed Zhou Cheng.

Standing by, Yuan Yu watched the mother and son, feeling grateful that although Zhou Cheng was seriously injured, his life was not in danger. As long as he recuperated well, he could recover back to the way he was before. Otherwise, losing her son would have been like the sky falling for Zhu Liniang.

Since Zhou Cheng was out of immediate danger, Tang Jun then spoke with Zhu Liniang about the driver who hit Zhou Cheng, something they hadn’t yet dealt with.

Zhu Liniang said, "I don’t know much about this, but Xiao Cheng’s medical expenses are quite high."

She had missed the driver completely yesterday, only releasing her anger with a good scolding. She wanted no compensation, nothing else; she just wanted her son to be lively and cheerful again.

But what Tang Jun said wasn’t wrong either. Now that the incident had happened, at the very least, the other party should bear the responsibility for Xiao Cheng’s medical expenses.

"Tang Jun, then, all these matters, I’ll leave in your hands." As Zhu Liniang was not knowledgeable in this area, she entrusted everything to Tang Jun.

"Okay."

After a simple dinner, Tang Jun went to find Zhang Tingyu, who, being a lawyer, understood this area better than he did.

After Tang Jun discussed the situation with Zhang Tingyu, Tang Yue eventually found out about Zhu Liniang’s son’s accident. That very night, she went to visit the hospital.

Upon seeing the child wrapped up like a mummy, and hearing that he had undergone two emergency surgeries before being transferred to Jing City, Tang Yue felt even more heartache for the child. He was so young, and already had to endure so much hardship. She held Zhu Liniang’s hand and said, "Sister, I’m sorry. I only just found out about Xiao Cheng’s accident."
