Chapter 1283: May I Call You Godmother?
Chapter 1283: Chapter 1283: May I Call You Godmother?
"Miss Tang, you don’t need to apologize. Xiao Cheng’s matter was so sudden. When transferring to Jing City, I didn’t know anyone, and I could only turn to Tang Jun. If it weren’t for Tang Jun’s help, my Xiao Cheng..." As Zhu Liniang mentioned that day, her heart was filled with anxiety.
The doctor kept issuing critical condition notices. Panicking, Zhu Liniang only knew how to cry. Eventually, the doctor suggested trying to transfer hospitals, prompting her to remember Tang Jun. With Tang Jun’s wide network, his help might spark a turnaround.
Thus, Zhu Liniang reached out to Tang Jun. In the past couple of days, after Zhou Cheng underwent two surgeries, he has slowly started to stabilize.
Zhu Liniang looked at the sleeping Zhou Cheng on the hospital bed, wiped her tears quietly, and gratefully said, "Miss Tang, truly, Tang Jun’s life-saving kindness is something I can never repay."
"We’re family. Helping each other out is the right thing to do."
Tang Yue inquired about Zhou Cheng’s current condition, learning that he was out of danger and only needed to rest well. Relieved, she smiled, "Sister-in-law, today, come to my place to rest well. I’ll take care of Xiao Cheng."
"No, no, I can take care of Xiao Cheng myself." Zhu Liniang shook her head vigorously like a rattle-drum, unable to bear leaving her son Zhou Cheng for even a moment, fearing something might happen if she turned away.
"Sister-in-law, I’ve heard you haven’t slept well for two days. Without rest, how will you have the energy to care for Xiao Cheng tomorrow?"
"You need to take good care of yourself to take good care of Xiao Cheng."
"Going forward, Xiao Cheng will still need to rely on you for recovery."
"Sister-in-law, rest assured. Tonight, I’ll look after Xiao Cheng with absolute care, without letting you worry. Can you trust me?"
Tang Yue left Zhu Liniang no room to refuse and let Tang Jun take her back home.
Tang Jun escorted Zhu Liniang back home. Zhang Hualian was already aware of Tang Yue’s plan, politely offering Zhu Liniang change of clothes and preparing a guest room for her to rest early.
"How’s Xiao Cheng? Is he alright?" Zhang Hualian quietly pulled Tang Jun aside to ask, reproaching, "Such a major incident and you didn’t even think to inform us so your dad and I could visit the child."
"Mom, I was just too busy and forgot."
Tang Jun felt a bit guilty, constantly preoccupied with Zhou Cheng’s situation, and having to juggle work matters at the hospital during the day. He genuinely forgot to inform his parents.
"Alright, you should go to bed early too. Take responsibility for Xiao Cheng’s matter, handling it well and carefully." Zhang Hualian, feeling sorry for Tang Jun, urged him to rest quickly. She said, "Tomorrow, let’s have your dad make some nutritious soups and meals to be sent to the hospital."
"Mom, don’t worry. I can handle it, thank you, Mom." Tang Jun cheerfully went back to his room to rest. Before entering his room, he paused and asked, "Mom, is brother-in-law on a business trip?"
"Yes, he left two days ago." Zhang Hualian looked questioningly at Tang Jun, asking, "Why suddenly ask about your brother-in-law out of the blue?"
"If brother-in-law were home, how could sister possibly be at the hospital alone?"
Tang Jun chuckled. Even if his sister wanted to stay at the hospital, brother-in-law surely would have gone with her.
"Stop worrying about that. Worry about yourself. When are you going to bring home a wife so I can have grandchildren?" Before Zhang Hualian could finish, Tang Jun slipped away.
"Mom, I’m going to sleep."
Tang Jun swiftly escaped the conversation.
Watching Tang Jun’s retreating figure, Zhang Hualian sighed helplessly. Xiao Yue and her husband have a harmonious relationship, blessed with a son and daughter, leading a fulfilling life. Xiao Yang also just got married; though they haven’t had kids yet, at least there’s companionship.
Only Tang Jun remains single, which makes Zhang Hualian anxious as a mother. Yet, beyond urging with a few words, there’s nothing more she can do.
...
For several consecutive days, the Tang Family visited the hospital daily. Tang Jun, unsurprisingly, but Tang Yue also stayed over a night. Zhang Hualian and Tang Zhengde brought meals every day, and Zhang Hualian even looked after Zhou Cheng one night.
Zhang Hualian and Zhu Liniang became acquainted with each other.
Zhang Hualian was clear about the events involving Tang Jun and Zhu Liniang. Years ago, Zhou Jun once saved Tang Jun’s life, and ever since, Tang Jun has been taking care of Zhu Liniang in numerous ways. With Zhou Cheng’s recent incident, Zhang Hualian and Tang Zhengde treated him like their own grandchild.
Tang Jun wanted to spend his life taking care of their mother and son, and as his mother, Zhang Hualian naturally wouldn’t utter a word of objection. Tang Jun knew how to be grateful, and this made her proud of him.
"Auntie, you’re truly blessed to have a son like Tang Jun who makes you proud. If it weren’t for my family’s Junzi having such a great friend and brother like Tang Jun, who knows what my Xiao Cheng’s situation would be." While wiping her tears, Zhu Liniang said, "We, mother and son, are immensely grateful for your family taking care of us."
"Liniang, it’s us who should apologize." Thinking of the late Zhou Jun, Zhang Hualian felt a pang in her heart. A woman raising a child alone isn’t easy.
Though Zhu Liniang isn’t very old, she is perceptive and rational. When Tang Yue and her sibling came to Jin City earlier, Zhu Liniang had already expressed her stance. Now, reiterating her position, made Zhang Hualian feel even more compassionate towards her.
"Auntie, I lost my parents at a young age, and Zhou Jun was an orphan too. Honestly, you’ve always been like a real mother to me. If it weren’t for you, I truly wouldn’t know what to do alone." Zhu Liniang was well aware that without the Tang Family’s support, she’d have been utterly lost at the hospital, unable to find the most suitable hospital as quickly as Tang Jun did.
"You’re too kind. Ever since Xiao Cheng’s father passed away, I’ve regarded you as one of my own." Zhang Hualian spoke genuinely, her words coming from the heart. Though she never visited Zhu Liniang frequently, whenever Tang Jun visited her, items prepared by Zhang Hualian were delivered together as well.
Zhu Liniang hesitated, looking like she wanted to speak.
Seeing this, Zhang Hualian said, "Liniang, if you have something to say, just say it. We’re not outsiders."
"Auntie, these past days you’ve genuinely felt like my real mom. So, I’ve been thinking, Auntie, if you don’t mind, could I recognize you as my godmother?"
