Chapter 1291: What Are You Hiding from Me?
Chapter 1291: Chapter 1291: What Are You Hiding from Me?
When Meng Yanzhi left the mall, he was carrying several bags in his hands, and the assistant following behind him was lugging even more big and small bags. And that wasn’t even counting the things that had been sent straight home.
The assistant muttered in his heart, even if this were his own daughter, he wouldn’t buy this many things.
Let alone a child that isn’t his by blood. Buying so much stuff—will it even all get used?
"Hurry up."
Meng Yanzhi couldn’t wait to get the room set up. If one day—if one day Chenchen came to live at his place, then everything would come in handy.
He regretted it a little, wondering why he hadn’t gotten all this done sooner.
"Coming, coming." The assistant hurried to catch up. As for all those complaints in his heart, he didn’t dare let a single one show.
His boss had money; he could buy whatever he wanted. Whether it got used or not wasn’t something he had any say in.
As soon as he got home, Meng Yanzhi started arranging the room. He specially cleared out the biggest and brightest room, which had originally been his study and part-time studio. Now, Meng Yanzhi emptied it out completely and turned it into a Princess room.
The whole room was completely transformed. As he looked around, a smile slowly spread across his face. He sat down on the pink Princess bed. The pink curtains fluttered in the breeze, and the whole room was awash in romantic pink. It looked wonderfully dreamy.
"Chenchen, will you like it?"
Looking at the house that had changed so much after a day of busy work, Meng Yanzhi’s face was full of joy. But very quickly, he sank into a kind of vague, hollow melancholy. The energy he’d been holding himself up with was like air leaking from a balloon. He casually picked up a pink teddy bear from beside him. The soft pink bear looked especially cute.
What a pity—you probably won’t ever get the chance to live here.
That vinegar jar Meng Siyu guarded against him like he was a thief. How could he possibly agree to let his daughter get close to him?
Let alone let her come over to stay once in a while.

"What’s with those two little brats lately? They’re always whispering together, and the moment I get close, they shut up and act like they’re not saying anything at all."
At night, Si Yu asked quietly, looking puzzled. "Wife, I don’t think I did anything wrong, did I? I’ve been coming home every day, haven’t I? Did I offend them somehow?"
Si Yu racked his brain and still couldn’t figure it out.
Tang Yue hid a laugh and just refused to explain. She cleared her throat and changed the subject. "They’re growing up. It’s normal for them to have their own little secrets now. Don’t worry about it so much."
"No way. You’re definitely hiding something from me." Si Yu rolled over and put his whole weight on her. He lowered his head and kissed her, his gaze burning as he stared at her and asked, "What are you all keeping from me?"
"Nothing."
Tang Yue denied it flatly. The kids wanted to give their dad a surprise. As their actual mom, she shouldn’t be the one to ruin it. Otherwise, there’d be no surprise left.
"Liar." Si Yu’s hand landed on her waist.
"Ah..."
Tang Yue immediately burst into giggles, hastily saying, "Ticklish, stop, that tickles so much."
When Tang Yue said this, she couldn’t stop smiling. She was most afraid of being tickled.
"Wife, what are you hiding from me?" Si Yu loved watching her smile. When she laughed, it was like all his worries were wiped clean away.
"Nothing.".
Catching the moment when Si Yu stopped, Tang Yue looked at him with her shimmering eyes, all aggrieved, and said, "You’re bullying me."
"You’re a bad guy!"
Tang Yue wriggled and scooted back. Being tickled was not a pleasant feeling at all. That passive, can’t-help-but-laugh sensation was something she really didn’t like.
"How am I bad?" Si Yu’s lips curved slightly. He’d just barely scratched her, and his wife’s reaction was way too dramatic. Those shimmering eyes and that wronged little expression made him want to bully her a bit more.
The night was long.
As dawn gradually broke, before heading to the company, Si Yu especially went to ask Tang Yue again.
"Wife."
"You really won’t tell me what you’re hiding from me?"
Si Yu had made all kinds of guesses. It wasn’t Tang Yue’s birthday, nor was it the kids’ birthdays. So what special day could it be?
"Just go to work. I’m sleepy."
Tang Yue mumbled back, yawned, turned over, and went back to sleep.
"Then sleep well."
Looking at her sleepy face, Si Yu silently wondered to himself if he’d gone a little too hard on his wife.
...
On the weekend, Zaozao and Chenchen slipped out of the house with their New Year’s money in their pockets and headed straight for the biggest mall in Jing City. The place was packed with all kinds of goods. Whatever they wanted to pick out, they’d be able to find it there.
Ding Ling followed not too far, not too close, behind the two kids. Watching the siblings act like two little foxes, carefully picking out a gift for their dad just like adults, made Ding Ling feel a bit envious.
The longer she stayed by Tang Yue’s side, the less she wanted to leave.
Now Ding Ling finally understood what Sister Wu Xin meant back then when she said she was really lucky to have taken this assignment.
Now, for Ding Ling, it wasn’t just a job anymore. She had truly come to see Tang Yue’s family as her own—Tang Yue as an older sister, and the two children as her own relatives. If anyone tried to hurt those two kids, she’d fight them to the death.
Ding Ling followed behind the two children, watching them whisper to each other, and didn’t disturb them. She just stayed a few steps back, guarding their safety.
"Zaozao, let’s not buy this. Dad doesn’t like it." Chenchen glanced at the razor in Zaozao’s hand, her face full of dislike.
"Dad uses it every day. Why wouldn’t he like it?"
Zaozao looked at the razor, and in the end picked out the most expensive one. Seeing that it was just the two kids, the salesgirl couldn’t help asking, "Kids, who did you come with?"
The salesgirl looked them up and down; it really seemed like it was just the two of them and no one else.
"I want to buy this."
Zaozao pointed straight at the most expensive, top-of-the-line razor. The price was really something.
"Kids, where are the adults in your family?" The salesgirl glanced at Zaozao. Even though he had that little-grown-up air about him, no matter how grown-up he seemed, he was still just a child.
Besides, this razor was the most expensive one in the store. The price was very... steep.
Even a lot of adults found it expensive. And now facing two kids, the salesgirl was afraid of crushing their enthusiasm, so she smiled and asked whether they’d come with an adult.
"Big sister, I have money. I’m buying it for my dad." Zaozao took the money out of his backpack and put it right in front of her. "Big sister, I want this one. Can you help me wrap it up?"
Even though it was something he was buying to bring home, Dad used it every day, so he’d definitely like it.
"Uh..."
The salesgirl was stunned by Zaozao’s actions. What was going on? This ridiculously good-looking kid just pulled out so much money like it was nothing?
