Chapter 993: Thank-You Gift
Chapter 993: Chapter 993: Thank-You Gift
With limited ingredients, Tang Yue, even though she wanted to cook a delicious meal for the children, could only use the most ordinary ingredients.
It’s summer now, so she made a smashed cucumber salad, steamed eggplant, stir-fried peppers with meat, and an egg soup.
The three dishes and one soup were enough to give the children some choices.
During the hot summer days, the smashed cucumber salad was very refreshing and delicious, and the steamed eggplant, which she learned from Zhang Hualian, was simple to make but tasted very good.
"Sister, is uncle doing better?" Heizi was the last to get served and asked after Tang Yue had finished.
"Yes, he is recuperating now." Tang Yue nodded with a smile, noticing that Heizi was much cleaner than yesterday, with a bright smile on his innocent face.
Tang Yue patted his head and said, "Heizi, hurry up and eat, don’t go hungry."
"Okay."
Heizi bowed his head and ate big bites of his food, exclaiming excitedly, "Sister, your cooking is delicious."
Although Heizi often cooked these dishes himself, they never tasted as good as sisters’.
His sister was the prettiest and most beautiful sister he had ever seen.
Even those on TV couldn’t compare to his sister’s beauty; he must study hard in the future to marry such a beautiful sister.
Oh, if only he really had such a beautiful sister.
Heizi often secretly glanced at Tang Yue.
"Eat more if you think it’s delicious." Tang Yue watched the children eat happily, not wasting the two hours she spent preparing this lunch.
"Thank you, sister," Heizi said with a mouthful of rice.
"You’re welcome. Uncle saving you was just a coincidence." Tang Yue’s gaze was soft.
He said, "Teacher Gu said, if you get help from others, be sure to say thank you."
"Teacher Gu also said that knowledge can change destiny."
"Exactly." Tang Yue nodded and said, "Is Teacher Gu the one who was with you yesterday?"
Yesterday, Tang Yue was completely worried about Meng Si Yu and didn’t notice Teacher Gu.
The fact that Teacher Gu could teach in such a backward place was admirable.
"Yes." Heizi nodded, suddenly seeing Teacher Gu. He said excitedly, "That’s Teacher Gu. He’s so knowledgeable, and he’s very good to us."
Heizi’s words were full of admiration for Teacher Gu.
Seeing Heizi’s excitement, Teacher Gu mistakenly thought he was calling him, so he walked over.
"Teacher Gu." Heizi had already finished his bowl of rice, his stomach full. Today, she had eaten well and was very comfortable.
"Heizi, is there something you need?" Teacher Gu asked, his clean-cut features catching the sunlight, carrying an inscrutable air of melancholy that formed a unique aura around him.
His presence was gentle and clean, like a spring breeze.
He seemed to be someone with a story.
Tang Yue thought to herself as Teacher Gu spoke, "On behalf of the children at the school, thank you for letting them have delicious meals even after the disaster."
"They should be thanking you; your teaching has a profound impact on the children and deserves great respect." Tang Yue said sincerely.
"I really enjoy spending time with the children here; they are the purest." Teacher Gu said with emotion, a hint of regret in his eyes as he was about to leave soon.
Tang Yue’s heart stirred, and she asked, "Why, are you leaving?"
Teacher Gu fell silent.
"Yes, I’m going to Jing City." Teacher Gu looked at the familiar faces, not wanting to leave them.
Heizi stepped forward, opening his arms to hug Teacher Gu, saying, "Teacher Gu, when you go to Jing City, don’t forget about us. Can we write to you?"
Heizi still held his bowl, but Teacher Gu didn’t mind, pulling Heizi into his embrace, saying, "Heizi, once I’m settled in Jing City, I’ll write letters to you."
"Teacher Gu, we’ll miss you."
"I’ll miss you all too."
More and more children came rushing forward.
Tang Yue watched from the side, seeing clearly that these children truly liked Teacher Gu, as evidenced by their reluctance to let him go.
Later, while chatting with other teachers, Tang Yue learned Teacher Gu’s name was Gu Hang, a name that flashed through her mind.
The name seemed familiar, like she’d heard it somewhere before.
Though it must’ve been infrequently mentioned.
Where could she have heard it?
Tang Yue tried to recall for a long time but couldn’t remember, ultimately letting it go, figuring maybe it was just a name match.
Thinking this way, Tang Yue stopped pondering it.
Night.
After Tang Yue and Meng Si Yu finished eating, Heizi arrived, accompanied by his father and mother.
Heizi’s parents were extremely polite, bowing and thanking Meng Si Yu, with Tang Yue trying her best to hold them back.
Heizi’s father and mother continually expressed gratitude and gave a chicken to Meng Si Yu. It was a chicken they struggled to preserve after the flood disaster, worth little money but full of genuine goodwill from Heizi’s parents.
Tang Yue didn’t want to accept it, but Heizi’s parents insisted, so she accepted the chicken on behalf of Meng Si Yu.
The next day, Tang Yue slaughtered the chicken to make soup for those injured. Though everyone got only a small amount, it was nourishing for the injured.
Tang Yue also used ingredients they brought to enhance the meal, recognizing the hardships here. She specially called Jing City to coordinate with a bookstore, sending a hundred books to the school.
When the books arrived, the children were elated, and even Gu Hang expressed gratitude towards Tang Yue and her group.
The place most lacked books.
"Sister Tang, I love this book."
"Thank you, Sister Tang."
Tang Yue only stayed in the village for a few days but won the children’s affection, with everyone calling her Sister Tang. They loved listening to the stories Tang Yue told.
After recovering in the village for three days, Tang Yue and her group set off to return to Jing City.
Meng Si Yu’s condition improved greatly, but he still needed hospitalization.
Upon returning to Jing City, Zhang Hualian brought Zaozao and Chenchen along.
"Daddy." As soon as Chenchen saw Meng Si Yu, he rushed toward the bed, and Tang Yue quickly caught Chenchen, saying, "Chenchen be good. Daddy is hurt and needs to rest, so Chenchen can’t let Daddy hold you or touch Daddy, okay?"
"Daddy hurts, I’ll blow away the pain." Chenchen obediently didn’t jump onto the bed but stood on tiptoes, pursing her lips, and gently blew on the casted area, softly saying, "Daddy be good, the pain will go away."
After blowing, Chenchen grinned widely, approaching Meng Si Yu with a look asking for praise, his big eyes curved like crescent moons, warming Meng Si Yu’s heart.
