Chapter 992: No Sugar Added
Chapter 992: Chapter 992: No Sugar Added
"I’m fine, you should go back and rest for a bit. Xiao Yue can stay here to take care of things." Without further ado, Meng Jin picked up Mo Xiaolin and said, "Xiao Yue, you can take a rest on the hospital bed too."
Although the hospital bed wasn’t big, Tang Yue’s small frame could find comfort lying next to him.
"No worries, Dad. You should take Mom to rest." Tang Yue smiled with a grin and didn’t feel too tired leaning against the side of the bed.
She whispered, "I’ll take care of everything here, don’t worry."
"Alright, I’ll take her to rest first." Holding Mo Xiaolin, Meng Jin left, leaving Tang Yue and Meng Siyu alone in the ward. She felt Meng Siyu’s forehead, finding that his fever had reduced significantly, then checked his temperature with a thermometer.
There was still a slight fever, but compared to the burning heat from before, it had decreased a lot.
Tang Yue changed the cold cloth on Meng Siyu’s forehead several times and only when she felt his temperature drop significantly did she finally fall asleep drowsily by the bedside.
In the morning, as sunlight poured in, Meng Siyu awoke to see a dark head resting beside him.
He dared not move, fearing he might wake her. Her face rested on her arm, her brows slightly furrowed, her sleep restless, with dark circles under her long eyelashes giving an impression of exhaustion.
A vague feeling during the night that someone was taking care of him attentively was surely his beloved wife.
Quietly, Meng Siyu moved his hand, trying to make her sleep more comfortably. But as soon as his hand moved, Tang Yue woke up, her eyes sleepy, yet her bright and clear eyes now carried a hazy charm. Meng Siyu smiled and said, "It’s still early, why don’t you sleep a bit more."
Tang Yue said nothing, reaching out to feel his forehead and realizing it wasn’t feverish. Only then did she yawn long and say, "No more sleep, are you hungry? I’ll check if there’s anything to eat."
Tang Yue got up, stretched lazily, cleaning up briefly before coming back with some porridge, saying, "Though the porridge is bland, it’s the most suitable for you."
Meng Siyu had several injuries; apart from the injury on his foot, there were others on his hands. Tang Yue carefully fed him, and Meng Siyu contentedly said, "It’s really sweet."
Tang Yue glanced at him and said, "I didn’t add any sugar."
After the flood disaster, getting anything to eat was a blessing. The porridge was plain with nothing added, not even sugar or pickles.
"Still sweet."
Laughter filled Meng Siyu’s dark eyes.
"Sweet, my foot," Tang Yue said with a stern face, still angry at certain people who treated themselves like they were made of iron.
"Wifey."
Meng Siyu drank large amounts of porridge, finishing two bowls. Watching Tang Yue go out again, he couldn’t do anything but call after her.
"Si Yu." As soon as Mo Xiaolin came in, she saw Meng Siyu’s expectant gaze and glared at him, saying, "You, you deserve Xiao Yue being angry. She was worried sick about you yesterday, searching half the day in the forest."
"You don’t know, Xiao Yue got several scratches." Thinking of Tang Yue’s frantic search for Meng Siyu yesterday, her heart ached.
Feeling guilty, Meng Siyu said, "Mom, from now on..." to take good care of Xiao Yue.
"What, are you planning for another event like this?" Mo Xiaolin’s voice rose several octaves.
Quickly shaking his head, Meng Siyu assured her he never wanted such an incident to happen again.
"Mom, what happened to your leg?" He was about to respond when he noticed Mo Xiaolin’s leg.
"No worries, it’s just a sprain, a few days of rest will heal it."
Mo Xiaolin casually remarked, "It’s you we should be worried about, covered in injuries. I heard you caught a group of thieves?"
"Just ran into them," Meng Siyu said, somewhat guilty.
"Do you think you’re made of steel, or are you some super expert from a drama?" Mo Xiaolin scolded, "You were already injured, yet fought with those six. Did you think about what might have happened if something serious occurred, leaving your dad and me behind?"
"What about Xiao Yue? What about the two kids?"
Mo Xiaolin was still in shock; hearing Meng Siyu was missing had pained her deeply.
"I was wrong," Meng Siyu admitted his mistake, not daring to retort against Mo Xiaolin’s reprimand. But given the chance to go back, he’d still make the same choice, unable to watch those few taking away the treasures from the tomb after running into them by chance. Even if he didn’t want to fight, they wouldn’t let him off easily.
Fortunately, he retrieved the treasures and hid them in a concealed place—something good accomplished.
"Zhao Xiangqian." Meng Siyu suddenly shouted.
Upon hearing him, Zhao Xiangqian immediately rushed in, and Meng Siyu disclosed the hidden location of the treasures, saying, "Make sure to retrieve these items."
"Alright," Zhao Xiangqian responded and instantly headed out to act.
Mo Xiaolin: "..."
Well, it seemed her earlier reprimand went in vain; Meng Siyu’s mind was still occupied with the artifacts he protected.
"You focus on your recovery."
Mo Xiaolin looked at him, feeling stifled within; he might be a hero, but he was still her son.
Vexed by Meng Siyu’s attitude, Mo Xiaolin no longer had any mood left.
When Meng Jin came in, Mo Xiaolin was about to head out, resting while being supported by Meng Jin. He brought good news to Meng Siyu—those caught tomb raiders had committed major crimes before, and the valuables Meng Siyu protected were highly regarded.
Meng Siyu felt like he’d done a noble act, the schoolchildren all safe and sound. Had they not stumbled upon it, who knows how many mishaps could’ve befallen those kids.
Since Meng Siyu was injured, Tang Yue was ignoring him.
"Wifey." He tried to coax Tang Yue, but she wasn’t buying his act.
Meng Siyu’s eyes rolled mischievously, "Ouch."
"Is it your leg or hand that hurts? Let me get the doctor," Tang Yue coolly said, turning to fetch help.
Meng Siyu hurriedly grabbed her hand, saying, "Wifey, I’m not hurting, I just can’t bear to see you go."
"I have work to do, need to cook for the kids." Tang Yue freed herself from his grasp; the village needs more hands post-flood.
Especially at school, the usual cooks are unavailable since their homes were lost in the flood, leaving only her to step up for the children displaced by the disaster without classes.
Meng Siyu stretched out his arms, but even then, he couldn’t catch Tang Yue’s hand. Now, she was completely out of sight, his extended neck seeing nothing but a tightly shut door.
