Chapter 604: Chapter 604: You Shouldn’t Have Followed
By the time she started up the mountain, the security team had already begun setting up there.
She managed to avoid detection by those people, found a hidden path around them, and headed directly after Huo Jingrui and his group.
After racing along the path, she finally noticed their tracks and, seeing there was no immediate danger, retreated into her space to fill her stomach, as it was past mealtime and she needed to replenish her energy to keep up.
Once she was fed in her space, she hurriedly exited and quickly caught up to Huo Jingrui: "How about it, did you hear any useful news?"
Huo Jingrui looked at Yunyi: "Why did you come back up again?"
Yunyi gazed at the people ahead and said slowly: "Of course, I was worried about you and wanted to help."
Huo Jingrui knew she was concerned for him, but Huang Yibang was a dangerous individual. He honestly didn’t want Yunyi involved, fearing the worst: "You shouldn’t have followed; you know their situation now. It’s really possible they might take everyone down with them."
Yunyi didn’t find Huo Jingrui’s words excessive: "That’s exactly why I need to help you. If something does happen, we can always escape into the space."
Huo Jingrui knew her personality well; better to keep her where he could see her than have her sneaking around. He had no choice with her: "You can follow, but make sure you prioritize your safety."
Yunyi noticed the group ahead stopped: "Go into the space and grab some food. I’m afraid if I take things out here, the smell might give us away."
Huo Jingrui glanced at the sky and didn’t refuse. The two of them reached a hidden spot, and Yunyi ushered him into the space.
She sat atop a tree, watching as the group began bickering again: "How much longer? This is vastly different from what you said before. If we knew we had to walk this far, we wouldn’t have taken this job."
Zhong Liyuan pointed towards the cliff ahead: "Almost there, just up ahead at that cliff. As long as you deliver the person to the cave over there, your task for today is complete, and I won’t skimp on your pay."
Internally, he thought to himself, this is where you’ll meet your end.
Yunyi saw them rest for a bit before moving again, but they seemed exhausted, dropping the sack heavily after only a few steps.
The man behind them even gave the sack a hard kick, eliciting a muffled groan from inside. Yunyi, with her keen hearing, recognized it immediately and thought to herself that Lun Huaijing must be waking up. How had he let Zhong Liyuan succeed?
She wondered if Guo Aibing was involved. The actions of this unfilial grandson had brought the Guo Family much misery, making it uncertain whether they could remain in Beijing.
The man grumbled as he lifted the sack again: "Miss Zhong, you need to add more money for us. This isn’t work for a human to do."
Zhong Liyuan’s eyes flashed with disdain, but she responded smoothly: "No problem, as long as the job’s done, money won’t be an issue."
She pursed her lips afterward, scoffing inwardly: such wishful thinking.
As they approached the cliff, Yunyi peeked into the space and saw Huo Jingrui had finished eating and was resting.
She found a secluded spot, entered the space, and said: "Jingrui, they’re almost at the location. Judging by Zhong Liyuan’s expression, those two foolhardy men probably won’t make it back alive. What should we do now?
If we step in to rescue, we risk alerting them, yet if we don’t, we can’t just watch them march towards their deaths.
I won’t be able to live with myself if we do nothing."
