Early the next morning, Huo Jingrui prepared breakfast and tidied up the yard. Seeing that Yunyi was still sleeping soundly, he couldn’t bear to wake her up.

He kept the food warm in the pot and thoughtfully left her a note before heading out.

He saw Wan Ruhua, Sister-in-law Lü, busy in the yard next door: "Sister-in-law, busy there?"

Wan Ruhua nodded at him with a smile and didn’t forget to call into the house, "Kids’ dad, are you ready yet?"

Since there was no corn oil or butter, she used the soybean oil bought yesterday to stir-fry and added a suitable amount of sugar. She fried it until it was cohesive, not sticky, and still oily, then spread it out to cool for later use.

The molds made yesterday could now come in handy.

With her nimble hands and the help of the molds, she quickly made beautiful mung bean cakes.

Looking at her work filled her with a sense of accomplishment. She took a piece to taste—is was fragrant, sweet, soft, and glutinous, with just the right sweetness—perfect.

Just as she finished cleaning up the tools, there was a knock on the courtyard door.

Yun called out towards the outside: "Coming."

She dried her hands and walked outside: "Who is it?"

"It’s me, your Sister-in-law Lü."

Yunyi opened the door and smiled: "Sister-in-law, come in quickly. I just made some mung bean cakes; help me taste them and see how they are?"

Wan Ruhua replied with a smile: "What made you think of making mung bean cakes?"

Yunyi led her towards the kitchen: "I was thinking Jingrui would take me to visit the neighbors around and help me integrate into the community faster."

Wan Ruhua didn’t expect Yunyi to go to such lengths and couldn’t help but admire her even more, considering that the military family compound had a clear division between city and country military wives, forming two separate camps.

But Yunyi’s intention was to visit the surrounding neighbors.

Upon entering the kitchen, Wan Ruhua saw the countertop and trays filled with freshly made mung bean cakes: "Oh my, you’re so skillful! How did you make so many?"
