Chapter 460: To ’Create’ a ’Path’ of ’Hope’... Part-2.

Chapter 460: To ’Create’ a ’Path’ of ’Hope’... Part-2.

At Rio’s questions, Alverto remained silent for a while before speaking in a solemn tone.

"What those ’fragments’ are is unknown to everyone... nobody in the world actually knows what those things actually are..."

"I once asked the same question to that being, and their reply was that they didn’t know..."

Rio’s eyes widened in surprise after hearing those words; if that higher being has itself said that it doesn’t know, then these fragments really are far too mysterious.

He wasn’t worried that such a powerful being would lie, because its every word would stir the ’Law’ of ’Truth and Lie,’ making it difficult to lie.

Thus, either that being wouldn’t have talked about the fragments, or they would have spoken the truth; they didn’t have the option to lie.

This is a way of restricting the strong by the ’laws’ of the ’world.’ The same situation happened in the original novel, so Rio knows about it.

"Then, how do you know what to use these fragments for? Why are you collecting them?"

Rio was confused at Alverto’s words; if he didn’t know what those fragments were, why was he even going to such lengths to collect them?

Even in the memories, Rio knew that although the main reason for destroying the drift city was to take revenge, Alverto also wanted to find a ’fragment’ there by killing everyone in the city.

"I don’t know what these fragments are, but I know one of their many uses..."

"If you collect three fragments, you can use their power to summon the ’Spire of Ascension.’ Everything I know and all the knowledge I have was given to me by that being..."

Alverto was not in a hurry; that’s why he was talking in a slow and calm tone.

He knew Rio’s threat; that’s why he was stalling for time instead of fighting Rio head-first.

Rio didn’t mind Alverto’s little tricks at all; he wanted to get to the bottom of this matter. That’s why he wasn’t bothered with wasting time.

His instincts told him that it was better to find out answers from Alverto than try to deal with him right now.

One of the main reasons why he hasn’t tried to destroy that suspicious altar is that it’s protected by a powerful barrier that is being supported by the entire ’Spire of Ascensions’ power.

It will be really difficult to break it, even for an SS-ranker.

"So, what actually is the ’Spire of Ascension’... Don’t tell me that you are trying to use it to ’ascend’ to a higher realm or something?"

"After all, its name has ’Ascension’ in it..."

Hearing Rio’s words, Alverto shook his head and looked in into Rio’s dark eyes before speaking in a solemn tone.

"The ’Spire of Ascension’ is a ’Medium’ which can be used to ’Ascend’ and ’Create’ new ’Pathways’ that do not exist in this world..."

Saying those words, Alverto went quiet for a moment, and a light smile appeared on his face.

Rio, on the other hand, was extremely shocked by that revelation, and a look of realization came to his mind.

"I see... so that’s how it is; that explains everything..."

Alverto nodded his head after seeing Rio come to a realization.

"Talking to smart people is really efficient; you already understand what I want to achieve and what my mission is, don’t you?"

Alverto stood up from his chair and threw away the empty wine glass in his space ring.

He glanced up towards the starry sky and spoke in an excited tone.

"The Spire of Ascension, is the highest level ’Medium’; you can place your most important memories in it and use them as anchor for your soul..."

"Then you can use a simple ritual to either use the ’Spire of Ascension’ to ascend to a higher realm or create and ascend new ’Pathways’ that don’t exist..."

"That’s all I know about the ’Spire of Ascension,’ but this much was already enough from the very beginning..."

Alverto placed one of his palms on his chest and felt his heart beat faster in sheer excitement.

"That great being’s mission for me was simple: kill the ’Hope’ of the ’World,’ kill the one ’Chosen by Heavens,’ and destroy a threat before it can become a real threat..."

"Those chosen by heavenly luck are the greatest threat to that powerful being, and that’s also the reason why I was given the task of destroying the heaven’s chosen before he could grow up completely!"

Hearing Alverto words, Rio sipped his tea and spoke in a calm tone.

"But they are heaven’s chosen; that’s exactly why they can’t be killed with normal means. they are always protected by the heavenly luck..."

"I see... that’s why you were given the task to create a new ’Pathway’..."

Rio nodded his head in realization as if he had finally understood why Alverto went through all this trouble to summon the ’Spire of Ascension.’

As if confirming his thoughts, Alverto nodded his head and spoke in an excited tone.

"Yes! That higher being gave me the knowledge about the fragments and the abilities of the spire of ascension all because he wanted me to create a new ’pathway’!"

Alverto pointed his finger at the unconscious Fade lying in the middle of the giant altar and spoke.

"I was tasked with the mission of creating ’Pathway’ that will allow ’killing’ or ’destroying’ the ’Heaven’s Chosen’!"

The moment Alverto said those words, Rio also nodded his head in understanding.

The ’Heaven’s chosen’ are extremely lucky people; they can’t be killed with normal methods.

In fact, there isn’t any actual method in this world to really kill a heavenly chosen with 100 percent certainty.

From the very first day Rio came to this world, he has hated Fade’s character, and he has always despised him for his bad personality.

But Rio never tried to attack or kill Fade even after all that.

The main reason for that was also because of the interference from the ’Heavenly Luck.’

If Rio really pushed Fade to a corner and tried to take his life, some bizarre things might happen; perhaps a passing strong person will randomly come to save his life.

Perhaps some random dungeon gate will open and help Fade escape.

Worst case scenario, the heavens will take action themselves and will throw ’heavenly punishment’ at Rio, completely killing him and destroying him instantly.

Rio didn’t want to face these difficult situations, as he knew that he’s not someone like Ashtel Rex, who can face tank the heavenly punishment without much difficulty.

This is also one of the reasons why Rio didn’t attack Fade to try and kill him to loot his ’system’ before or after he awakened it.

Even before awakening his ’system’ cheat, killing Fade could have led to bad outcomes, and it wasn’t a guarantee that the ’system’ could be stolen from him.

If Rio was 100 percent certain that killing Fade was safe and would let him steal his ’system,’ Rio would have already killed Fade the very first day he transmigrated to this world.

Rio is not a ’hero’; he’s extremely selfish. He wouldn’t have let Fade awaken his system if he had a choice in that matter.

"There is no ’Path’ in the world that helps you kill a ’Heaven’s chosen’, that why you were asked to ’Create’ such a ’Path’..."

Alverto’s mission was simple yet very difficult.

Now Rio can finally understand why Alverto had to collect those mysterious ’Fragments’ and had to go to such lengths to summon the ’Spire of Ascension.’

Only the ’Spire of Ascension’ can help him accomplish his mission.

If not for it, he will never be able to kill Fade no matter what and might even end up helping Fade get stronger.

"But this is not all... I have seen your memories and I know that you were never going to follow that mission as is... There’s more to it, right?..."

Rio stood up from his chair at that moment and stared into Alverto eyes.

The chairs and table finally disappeared on their own, and the tension in the air reappeared as Rio and Alverto both stood against each other in a confrontation.

"You are very perceptive... Yes, the mission given to me is indeed to kill the ’heaven’s chosen,’ but that’s not my actual goal..."

Alverto spread his arms wide and spoke in a calm voice.

"You have seen my memories; you know that the demon race is suffering and has been living a miserable life..."

"I just want ’Hope’ for my race; I want ’Salvation’ for my kin... I don’t really care about that ’being’s’ plans; all I want is to save my comrades from madness and insanity..."

Alverto smirked a bit and spoke in an extremely excited tone.

"I want to ’create’ a new ’pathway’ for the demon race, the ’path’ of ’salvation’!!"

"All demons who follow this ’Path’ will be able to keep themselves sane and will not lose themselves to the corruption of miasma!"

"My goal of summoning the ’Spire of Ascension’ is not to blindly follow the guidance of that higher being; I want to use that guidance for the better of my kin!"

"If I succeed in creating this new ’Path,’ all demons will be able to stop the miasmic corruption and keep their sanity from now on!"

Alverto’s goal was completely different from that higher being.

Although Alverto wasn’t against killing the heaven’s chosen, he had his own goals and didn’t want to waste this opportunity.

Rio also nodded his head in agreement.

"I see, the spire of ascension can only be used once as a ’medium,’ so you can either create a ’path’ to kill the ’heavens chosen’ or create a ’path’ of ’salvation’ for your kin..."

"Whichever option you choose, the spire of ascension will disappear after one use and you will have to collect three fragments again if you want to accomplish more..."

Alverto has decided not to follow that higher being’s order and has decided to go his own way; that’s his greatest plan.

This is his way to create a path of hope.
