Chapter 562: The Curse of Eternal Suffering. Part-1.

*CAWWW!!* *CAWWW!!!*

After his efforts to trace Raika ended up useless, Rio walked for a day straight using absolute stealth.

He followed directions shown by the cube and followed the broken stone road, and finally a town appeared near the horizon.

Weird flying creatures were producing crow-like noises as they gnawed on the hundreds of rotting corpses scattered everywhere in the open field.

’Why are there so many monster corpses scattered all over this area?...’

The broken stone road was leading Rio straight to the town located near the horizon, and on both sides of the road there were hundreds of thousands of monsters’ corpses scattered everywhere.

Rio could even see piles of bones in various places, and if he hadn’t been using sword intent to isolate himself, the stench of rotting corpses in this place would have been enough to cause him to faint!

Not only were there miasma and corruption in the air in the form of miasmic fog, but there were also gigantic crow-shaped monsters gnawing on the corpses everywhere!

Each of those crow-like monsters was as huge as a three-story building; their massive beaks alone were big enough to fit a car inside them!

Their entire body was covered in massive maggots and parasites constantly gnawing at them from inside out; looking at them was really uncomfortable as they looked very disgusting.

’The spirit realm is really quite dangerous... all of these are pseudo-S rank monsters and some of them are even S-rank...’

’A normal S-ranker won’t even survive here for more than a minute or two...’

S-rankers are beings who have crossed the limiter of their race and their genes; they are above the level of ordinary beings, and they can live without needing to sleep, breathe, or eat.

They can travel in space and are immune to cosmic radiation and many other worldly things; their vitality is so strong they can survive almost anywhere.

Yet, even such powerful individuals will likely not be able to survive in the spirit realm for more than a few minutes; this place was dangerous for even SS-rankers, let alone them.

’These weird creatures look very ugly or I would have taken a cub back as a souvenir for Lia... err.. but she already has that fat cat as a pet so I guess it’s not a good idea to bring another pet as a gift...’

’I will need to find something else...’

While thinking about his cute girlfriend in his mind, Rio completely ignored the monstrous birds and piles of corpses everywhere as he walked forward completely unbothered.

The place was dangerous to others, but for him, it was nothing special.

Rio looked at his wristwatch and noticed that there was no connection at all, as he was too far away from the solar system itself and was in a completely different realm.

’In the first place, the spirit realm exists between reality and nothingness... only a few artifacts might be capable of doing cross-realm communication in this kind of situation...’

*BUHEHEHEH!!!!*

Rio’s thoughts were interrupted by a weird laugh as a massive rat-like creature crawled out from under a giant pile of bones and corpses.

It had a big humanoid face, and there were several souls stuffed in its body, causing its body to constantly break apart from various places.

Sometimes holes would randomly open in its stomach, and to fill them, it would stuff them with random corpses that were scattered on the ground.

Sometimes its entire limb would blow apart, and it would grab a random limb from a corpse and attach it to itself.

Its entire body was rotting and dying constantly, and yet it was struggling and living while crying tears of miasmic filth and laughing in a weird manner.

’Err... No, that one is chubby and round but that’s not the ideal type of pet I am looking for... you can stay away, no thanks...’

Rio took a detour just to avoid that weird creature, but as if miasma had decided to do exactly what Rio didn’t like, the giant rat’s body blew apart from miasmic imbalance!

Causing disgusting and rotting meat chunks to be scattered everywhere, causing immense mental discomfort to those who looked at that scene.

’Ugh, so now that you know you can’t beat me physically you are trying to annoy me by showing me these kinds of disgusting things?’

’You really are a sore loser, you know?...’

Miasma liked making a mockery out of someone precious things and someone’s life, and if it couldn’t do that to someone, it would try to corrupt them and kill them using any method possible.

Miasma had tried quite a lot of things on Rio by now, and most of them had failed in the one-month time span.

Not only did Rio not receive a single injury, but he even became stronger using miasma to his advantage.

’Well, even I would feel angry and frustrated if someone is so unaffected by my attacks and skills that they don’t even care about them and take them like it was just a massage...’

Rio was even using miasma in the place of water to bathe, so it was obvious that he didn’t take it seriously at all; he was very unconcerned about its attacks and tactics to harm him.

’Now that I think about it, using someone’s attacks and skills as a method to clean your own body... err... even I might feel furious if someone disrespected me like that...’

Although Rio felt a little bit of pity for Miasma, he was not going to stop doing it.

’I mean... who told it to be so warm, cozy and comfortable... it’s just like taking a massage or something...’

Rio just shrugged his shoulders, flew in the air a bit, and bypassed the scattered meat chunks on the ground to avoid stepping on them.

While walking towards the distant town, Rio saw various weird creatures like giant snails and even giant cockroaches who were gnawing on the corpses of monsters scattered everywhere.

Everything in the area was inflicted with miasma, corruption, and rot; even the ground was covered in rotting flesh and dried black blood corrupted with miasma.

’This place is seriously f*cked up... why are there so many corpses piled up here in the first place?...’

It didn’t take Rio long to understand the answer to that question, though.

As he got closer to the town, he finally got to see shadow dragons for the first time after entering the spirit realm and travelling in it for an entire month straight!

There were two small shadow dragons, covered in greyish-black scales, and they were both attacking a giant gorilla-like monster covered in rotting and disfigured organs hanging around its entire body.

Rio had seen Ellie in her dragon form, so he was able to easily tell that those two dragons were definitely shadow dragons; it was just that they were very small in size.

’Dragon whelps? These are kids!! Why are they hunting monsters!?’

Rio was surprised after he noticed that the soul fluctuations of these two shadow dragons were very weak, and even their bodies seemed less mature; they were clearly both kids!

Although they were both as big as a two-story house, which was very small for a dragon, they were both at the age where they should be snuggling in their parent’s arms!

’A dragon whelp is basically a 5–12-year-old child when compared to human standards... these two shouldn’t be here... and they... they are heavily corroded with miasma!’

One of them was missing a tail and was continuously bleeding; its eyes were bloodshot, and its entire body was covered in its black corrupted blood.

While the other dragon whelp had a huge hole in its head, and its brain was literally visible from the outside, making Rio question how that dragon was even alive after sustaining such heavy injuries.

Seeing this situation, Rio finally understood how big of a punishment the shadow dragons were given for betraying the world alliance.

Not only were they banished to the spirit realm, but their future generations, who were completely innocent, also had to suffer the punishment of the crime committed by their parents.

It was a punishment horrible enough to destroy the future of several innocent lives.

Rio had seen dragon whelps and little dragon kids in the dragon valley; they were living happily; they were playing around with each other like normal kids.

Comparing that situation to the one Rio is seeing now made Rio understand the severity of the curse placed on the shadow dragons.

’The punishment for nearly causing the destruction of the world is indeed quite cruel... so you also had a cold-blooded side like this... King Allen?’...

Rio could not say that King Allen was wrong for punishing the shadow dragons, but he could not agree with the cruel fate bestowed on these innocent children either.

’Sigh... this world really is quite f*cked up... I guess this is what Alverto was seeing happen in the demon continent every single day...’

Rio could only sigh at this situation, as he had no way of changing it.

After the two dragon whelps barely managed to kill the gorilla-like beast, they started fighting each other then and there to claim the prize.

There was no such thing as camaraderie between them; there was only desperation, helplessness, and fear for survival in those broken kids’ eyes.

They both seemed to not even have the time or the mental capacity to worry about their injuries, and the prey seemed more important than their own lives!

It was a curse of misery bestowed upon them due to their parent’s sins that they had to suffer like this.
