Chapter 668: Atleast some ’Hope’ must exist... Part-1.
Hearing Bela’s words, Lia felt shocked.
"Y-you are insane... you actually agreed to sacrifice your life for that?... If the sea of miasma had really been defeated, I would still consider your sacrifice to be worth praising..."
"But the sea of miasma clearly still exists... doesn’t that mean King Allen didn’t manage to destroy the sea of miasma and return the world ’balance’ back to normal!?"
"Doesn’t that make your sacrifice completely useless!? And now you want me to do the same thing as you!? Are you insane!?"
Lia almost cursed out loud in a fit of rage as she finally got to know about the true conditions of creating the mythical artifact and the true circumstances of Bela’s death.
Bela didn’t die or go missing together with King Allen, as most of the world thinks; she actually willingly sacrificed her life to turn herself into the ’key’ that could solve the instability of the world once and for all!
Aside from SS-rank healers like Selain and Aria, who are closely related to the ’law’ of ’healing’ just like Astra, not many know of her actual fate.
"You are right... My sacrifice ended up being useless..."
With a sad look on her face Bela looked at the distant horizon and spoke,
"I sacrificed my life, will, soul, and even my very existence to create that ’possibility’ that ’key’ that could have changed the world for better... but... sigh..."
"I guess you can say that not everything goes as planned in this world..."
Nobody knows what happened to King Allen in the end after he came to possess the sword of promised destinies and became a ’true god.’
His biggest dream was to put an end to the ever-expanding sea of miasma’s reign of terror.
But as everyone knows that the Sea of Miasma is still existing completely fine without any problems, it’s not hard to guess that something has definitely gone wrong.
"The me that created the weapon remained conscious in that sword till only a few instances... even I do not know what happened afterwards..."
"Unless someone goes to the very core of the ’Sea of Miasma’ and returns back, there is no way of knowing what could have gone wrong..."
"And unfortunately for us... there is no such being in the universe that has ever returned from the sea of miasma... even King Allen did not return after entering it... let alone anyone else..."
Hearing Bela’s sad voice, Lia calmed her anger down and asked in a calm voice,
"If you yourself know that using the ’sword of promised destinies’ is a dead end, if you already know that even King Allen failed, then why are you making me inherit this failed knowledge!?"
"Why do you want me to turn myself into a sacrifice and create this artifact!?"
At Lia’s question, Bela smiled slightly, but that smile was not gentle; it seemed to hide a lot of regrets and sadness behind it.
"Because of ’Hope’ Lia... I just... I just don’t want the world to lose ’Hope,’ Lia..."
"The ’Sword of Promised Destinies’ is the only power that I know of that can bring ’Hope’ to this dying world... If it doesn’t work... I cannot think of anything else that can save this world from destruction..."
"I do not want you to be a sacrifice Lia... I... I am giving this knowledge... while knowing full well that it can fail... because I have no other option!"
Bela looked in Lia’s eyes with immense sadness and agony as she spoke in a trembling voice.
"I-i don’t know of any other way I can help you and the world... I-i sacrificed myself... believing that no one.... no one in the future would have to sacrifice.... like me..."
"In the thousand-year war, I saw millions of innocent people die Lia! I saw children starve to death, I saw parents wail for the lives of their children..."
"I saw massive catastrophic events, I saw endless flames of war, and I saw the destruction of entire civilizations and races!"
"I saw endless genocide and massacres! I-i saw endless corruption and miasmic rot Lia!"
Bela almost felt like crying while speaking about those long-gone days of despair and helplessness.
"As the person whose ’path,’ whose ambition was to help the world become a better place, I-i failed miserably Lia!... I failed miserably!"
Tears fell from Bela’s eyes as she spoke,
"People sing praises of me, people feel proud of my name and entire civilizations teach their children that I was a great being..."
"But the truth is far different from that Lia! I am just a helpless woman who lost her everything just to create a better future for next generations! And I failed in even that!"
"I am no such great healer Lia! I am just a defeated memory of a woman who dreamt of achieving something that was simply too out of her reach!"
Saying those words, Bela collapsed on the ground; with her knees touching the ground, she looked at Lia with eyes that were filled with tears of sorrow and despair.
"I wanted my sacrifice to be the last one! With that last sacrifice I wanted the future generation to live far away from war and destruction..."
"I wanted the future generations to live far away from the looming threat of the miasmic sea! But it all failed! I-i failed to protect the innocent children of the future too!"
"The sea of miasma has been killing and destroying wantonly for a thousand years even after my sacrifice!"
Astra was revered as the goddess of protection and cure, but at heart, she was just a broken and defeated woman who had lost all hope for the future by now.
The sea of miasma had crushed every dream she ever had!
The miasmic sea had made a complete mockery out of her noble sacrifice, making her very existence a joke!
And the worst part was that Bela was helpless to do anything about it!
"Lia... when I-i created this memory of mine, I was thinking that the day that this memory would need to pass on its knowledge will likely never come, as King Allen will end up winning no matter what..."
"But to my dismay... I was overconfident..."
"This memory of mine can be used to inherit the methods of creating the ’Sword of Promised Destinies’... but now... even I don’t know if it will be of any use..."
Astra’s thousand-year war efforts, her entire life’s work, and her final sacrifice were all to secure a peaceful future for the lovely children of the next generations.
It was to create a peaceful world so that innocent children wouldn’t die from pointless wars anymore, but the sea of miasma made it all hopeless and pointless.
That’s how tragic the life of the greatest healer in history was; even in death, she still could not rest in peace.
People all across the world consider her to be a savior; they consider that she helped free the world of the demon’s terror, but reality is far from that imagined dream.
Not only is the world not free from miasma’s terror, it is now even closer to destruction than it ever was! All because Astra and King Allen failed the mission that they were born for.
