Chapter 897: Home and Beyond... Part-1. (Rio X Lia).
While the entire world was going through tremendous commotions and changes, Rio quietly returned to the Silver Mansion after bidding farewell to Ashtel, who was feeling eager to release the news.
The streets he passed on the way were already buzzing with whispers and hurried footsteps, but none of those voices mattered to him right now, because only one person was on his mind.
Rio was originally about to land directly inside the silver mansion, but then he noticed Lia standing at the front door, so he decided to land outside and walk in through the door instead.
The afternoon light fell softly across the courtyard, and the familiar sight of the old mansion walls filled his heart with a quiet warmth that he had not felt for many days.
Just as Rio landed and walked to the front gate, Lia peeked out from between the slightly open doors and spoke,
"Hmph! You are finally back?"
She puffed up her cheeks and crossed her arms, looking like a small and very adorable guard who had caught a late-night intruder.
"I thought someone said he wouldn’t be reckless and wouldn’t cause a commotion, but it seems that certain someone was lying from start to end!"
Her eyes were slightly red around the edges, though she tried her best to hide it behind a playful pout.
Hearing Lia’s teasing and amused tone, a smile appeared on Rio’s face as he replied in a boastful voice,
"Haha, no way, the Great and Mighty Rio will never lie! It must be that the person hearing his words misunderstood!"
"I only said that I will not be reckless, and I never said I will become strong enough to make the entire world bow!"
"Surely the great and benevolent Lia will understand the difficulties of her husband and let him off without scolding him today, right?"
He pressed his palms together in front of his chest and bowed his head lightly, putting on the most pitiful and sincere expression he could possibly manage.
Hearing those boastful words and that fake pitiful look, Lia chuckled to herself and spoke in a fake angry tone,
"Hmph! I thought the great and mighty Demi-god Rio would know better and return back home on time! Yet he spent more than a week wandering outside in unknown places!"
"It seems that becoming a demi-god has made the mighty Rio no longer feel worried about his girlfriend’s anxious heart becoming restless for his safety!"
At those words, Rio couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty.
He scratched the back of his head awkwardly, and for the first time that day, his confident smile wavered a little.
He had indeed spent longer than a week away from Lia, and it was obvious that she was a bit unhappy about being left behind like that.
The thought that Lia had been waiting and staring at the door for several days for his return made Rio’s heart tighten.
Moreover, Rio had gone ahead and become a demi-god, completely surpassing Lia in both realm and might; it was easy for her to feel anxious in this kind of scenario, as she had a tendency to hate herself for lacking talent.
She never blamed him for it out loud, but the small shadow that flickered behind her smiling eyes told him that the insecurity lingered in some quiet corner of her heart.
"Hah! How dare the puny little demigod Rio make his girlfriend unhappy. How about giving him a punishment! One week of no ’Tea’! That’s it!"
He said it with such a serious face that it was almost impossible to tell whether he was joking or not.
Lia, who was also in the mood to mess around and joke with Rio, giggled at those words and spoke,
"No way, how will that tea addict make it alive through such a hellish punishment? The great and mighty Lia is benevolent; she does not wish to make others suffer."
"An hour would do fine, she thinks!"
Hearing those words, Rio shook his head with a smile and spoke,
"No no, the great Lia is too benevolent! I implore her to punish the offender with a thousand kisses straight to the lips and choke him to death!!"
He even closed his eyes and puckered his lips dramatically, acting like a man who was fully prepared to accept his fate.
Just when Lia was about to reply and continue messing around with Rio, Lia’s maid Mel appeared beside Lia and spoke with her usual expressionless face.
"My lady, can you stop tarnishing the image of the Silver Mansion? I feel like the guards nearby are about to die from laughing too much."
Lia was startled for a second at the sudden appearance of Mel, but that flat tone only added more comedy to this already unserious situation.
Mel had a strange talent for appearing at the most embarrassing moments, and she always did it without making the slightest sound or changing the slightest bit of her expression.
For a while, Lia couldn’t help but giggle to herself as she opened the door for Rio.
The heavy doors swung open slowly, and the sight of Rio standing in his plain, wrinkled clothes in the middle of the great doorway only made her laugh harder.
"Ahem... pffftt~ what kind of look is that~ Pfft~ why are you wearing such loose baggy clothes! You look like a homeless dude wandering the streets!"
"Pffft~ if someone saw the might Demi-god Rio like this, they would faint from shock~"
She wiped the corner of her eye with the back of her hand, completely unable to hold back her laughter.
Seeing the happy smile and hearing those happy giggles of Lia, Rio felt as if the entire world had become brighter.
That bright and carefree laughter was something he had missed dearly, and he realized that he would gladly stand there being teased for the entire day if it meant hearing it again.
"Err, I changed them just now to make them look funny... didn’t expect you to giggle that much... oh come on! Stop laughing so much at me; you know I used to wear these kinds of clothes before and it’s kinda embarrassing!"
