Chapter 1222: Sugarcoated or Honest ( 1222 )
Gracelle smiled faintly while glancing at Liana.
"I don’t know why... but I feel comfortable with you around, talking to you and just being near you. It feels like we’ve met somewhere before."
Liana exhaled, crossing her arms and looking at Gracelle. "Is that the question you wanted to ask? Hmm?"
"Um... no... but... what I said was..." Gracelle paused, her expression sincere. "I really feel like it, like we’ve met somewhere, maybe long ago."
Liana shook her head. "Let me ask you a question, Gracelle."
"Hmm? Yes?" Gracelle looked at Liana.
"You do know how elves are, right? Elves are often secretive, long-lived, and aloof, choosing to seclude themselves in their own lands, rarely mingling with other races or venturing far from their forests."
"Yeah..." Gracelle nodded softly, putting a finger on her pursed lips and glancing to the side. "I guess so."
Liana leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms while looking at Gracelle.
"Elves are frequently depicted as secretive, long-lived, and aloof, choosing to seclude themselves in their own lands, rarely mingling with other races or venturing far from their forests. They value tradition, nature, and solitude, and most prefer to stay within the boundaries of their own nation."
"Mm... I’ve heard about that, and I believe that’s a common knowledge," Gracelle agreed.
Liana smiled faintly behind her mask.
"Now... tell me, Gracelle, how many elves do you think wander around outside the Elven Nation?"
"Umm... from what I heard before I was bedridden... elves rarely... umm... wait a minute..." She scratched her cheek. "I don’t think there’s any record of elves going into any Human Kingdom region or even villages. They only do trading with Beastkin."
She glanced upward. "Ah... now that you mention it, there’s one region elves are really open to trading with. Armand region. Ehehe... the boy I want to meet comes from there~ He’s a noble son... err... last time I heard his father was... umm... a viscount rank?"
Liana exhaled.
She really... really doesn’t know any news other than old ones? Did her family never tell her stories or chat with her during her bedridden years? Seriously?
I really can’t believe it. She might have been bedridden for over five years, and the information she has is outdated, from back when Young Master was still eleven or twelve.
This means she doesn’t even know about the Two Wars Against Armand?
The first war was when the Noble Coalition declared war, because those nobles decided to support and attack Armand because Armand refused the "Saint of Three Gods" cult. Armand rejected this false belief and banned the Saint of Three Gods doctrine from being practiced in their region. The cult oppressed and killed innocent people who wouldn’t believe in their gods, forced others to convert, demanded tithes from the poor, and wiped out entire villages under the excuse of labeling them as "satanic worshippers."
Armand refused and rejected this doctrine entirely.
The second war was when the entire Human Kingdom declared war against Armand during the Celestial Filth crisis.
Both wars, Armand won without suffering any casualties, thanks to Young Master’s inventions and advancements in magic tech. The only casualty was when the ex-summoned hero, Kenjirou, slaughtered the entire population of one of Armand’s villages.
But there’s no use telling her about that anymore.
Since everything is in the past.
Now Young Master is nearly seventeen... mm~ In a few days, perhaps after Prince Aelius and Princess Athine’s wedding, and maybe after the Maid Beauty Contest, he promised to make it official~
"Umm... Miss Elf?"
"Hmm? Yes?" Liana glanced at Gracelle.
"You suddenly went quiet... is there something troubling you?" Gracelle glanced at her.
"Yes... there is." Liana glared hard at Gracelle. "I’m sleepy and I’m tired."
"Ehe... ehehe..." Gracelle let out a nervous laugh.
"Now, back to the question. Since you already know about how the Elven Nation is open to trading with both Armand and the Beastkin Nation, you do know elves who wander outside their nation are mostly merchants or traders, right?"
"Mm... that’s true~" Gracelle smiled faintly.
Liana crossed her arms. "Now... how many elves do you think, or what percentage of chance is there, to see an elven girl outside the Elven Nation?"
"Err... rarely?" Gracelle let out a nervous smile.
"Mm..." Liana nodded. "True. Since the majority of us, elven girls, dislike human cities, the smell of mud, smoke, and sewage in the Human Kingdom is unbearable for us. So most of those who leave our nation are either working or merchants, and even then, the majority are male. Our race is very particular about the environment, preferring clean, natural, and well-maintained places."
"Oh..." Gracelle pursed her lips and kept listening to Liana’s explanation.
"And there is only one place in human territories that an elf like me is really comfortable in and never had any issues with, the environment is good, especially the best modern sewage system, clean air, no pollution or foul smells, the cleanest and best place. The only place you could see elves enjoying working or selling. Not to mention, some even stay and live there."
"Umm..." Gracelle glanced at Liana. "So... what do you think about the Human Nation? Or my region, Mathrias?"
"You want a sugarcoated answer or an honest answer?" Liana smirked.
"Honest answer!!" Gracelle narrowed her eyes.
"You sure?" Liana smirked again.
"Yes!"
Liana chuckled. "Disgusting, smelly, and filthy everywhere. The streets are dirty, the air is polluted, and the nobles are even worse. Lucky that my ’fiancé’ knows how beautiful and cute elven girls like me are, so he makes sure I feel comfortable. He uses his magic inventions to keep the environment clean and pleasant for me."
"Err... can I ask?" Gracelle scratched her cheek while averting her eyes.
"What?" Liana glanced at her.
"What does this have to do with... umm... err... you know? Ehehe..." Gracelle averted her eyes again when she noticed Liana’s eyes turn serious.
"Because it’s related to what you were saying before."
"R... really?"
"Yes... You mentioned that you felt like you met me somewhere before, right?"
"Y... yes?" Gracelle looked at her, confused.
Liana exhaled.
Is she pretending, or is she just that innocent and gullible? She doesn’t seem to be putting on an act.
What a troublesome girl. I wonder if she’s even clingier than Mimi.
She exhaled again. "Now... try to think harder. With the explanation I gave you before, where do you think you could have met me? Hmm?"
