Chapter 1223: The Sleepless Caretaker ( 1223 )
Chapter 1223: The Sleepless Caretaker ( 1223 )
"Err... I don’t think I’ve ever been to the Beastkin Nation. Umm... and since you mentioned that doctor, your fiancé, is a prince... but elves don’t even want to step foot in the Human Kingdom... is there any other human nation?" She tried to think hard... "Ihhh!!!" Gracelle scratched her head slowly.
Liana shook her head again.
Sigh... Is she really this slow, or what? I already mentioned that the Elven Nation openly trades with Armand. A.R.M.A.N.D... ugh! I even gave her the hint about how elven girls only want to work in Armand, since none of them want to step into any human region, let alone work there, especially given how elven girls are often seen as prizes by Human Nobles.
She looked at Gracelle, who exhaled softly.
"Muuu~ I give up!" She glanced at Liana. "Just tell me already. Where have we met?"
Liana exhaled and shook her head.
"Hmm? You really don’t know?" Liana tilted her head.
"Know what?" Gracelle narrowed her eyes.
Liana let out a long exhale before shaking her head.
"Now, now... let’s just stop our conversation here, or you won’t be able to sleep."
"Eh? But you didn’t tell me anything yet."
"Just go to sleep already." Liana hissed at Gracelle while crossing her arms. "If we keep this up, there won’t be any end to it, and you won’t be able to heal properly."
"B... but..." She pursed her lips at Liana.
"No buts. Go to sleep now. Didn’t you say you wanted to meet the boy you promised long ago? And you were scared about how he’d react when you meet again?"
"Muu... fine."
Liana waited for Gracelle to close her eyes and turn her body to rest before slowly standing up.
Just as she was about to leave, Gracelle called her again.
"Miss Elf... I can’t sleep."
Liana grumbled softly. "Ugh! So annoying."
"What should I do? I don’t feel sleepy at all." Gracelle mumbled while pursing her lips and giving her a pleading look.
Liana rolled her eyes.
Why do I have to babysit a patient who’s more clingy than a lost kitten? This is getting more annoying. I’m exhausted, my body aches, and I’m desperate for rest.
This is getting more annoying.
Ugh! I really want to sleep right now, so I can rest properly and serve Young Master in the evening.
But this clingy girl is making it impossible!
With a resigned sigh, she moved toward the chair again, dragged it closer to the bed, and sat down. She glanced at Gracelle’s hopeful face, her own expression a mix of irritation and reluctant fondness.
"Fine," Liana whispered, her voice softening. "Now...close your eyes."
She took a slow, calming breath, then began to hum a gentle, beautiful melody. Her voice was soft and clear, like a stream trickling over smooth stones, woven with a subtle, soothing magic that seemed to hang in the air like morning mist.
Gracelle’s eyelids grew heavy, Her breathing slowed, deepening into a steady, calm rhythm. The tension in her small frame melted away, replaced by a deep, tranquil relaxation. Within moments, she was sound asleep, a faint, content smile lingering on her lips.
Liana let the last note fade into silence, the magical glow gently dissipating. She watched Gracelle sleep for a moment, her expression unreadable behind her mask.
"Sleep well, little one," she murmured. "Maybe when you wake, you’ll finally remember."
After making sure Gracelle was sleeping, Liana smiled softly.
She slowly stood up and adjusted the blanket around Gracelle’s shoulders.
I wonder what will happen in the future.
If she really becomes one of my co-wives...
Let’s hope for the best, and hope she doesn’t become another clingy girl like Mimi.
She let out a long exhale and smiled faintly.
"You know, Gracelle?" she mumbled softly while glancing at her face. "It’s funny to me, how you worry about how the boy of your dreams will react when he sees you. You’re scared he’ll feel... disgust?"
She chuckled softly.
"The boy you dream of wanting to see has already seen you naked on the operation table. And all I could see was his determination to save your life. Not once did I see hesitation or anything. Only focus, will, and care."
"Because that’s how he is. You might not know, but the only times I’ve seen him show a disgusted face is when he sees veggies on his plate, or when he’s fighting an enemy using a disgusting weapon."
"He never feels disgust toward people, no matter their condition or appearance. Just like how he saved Iria and Iziya, the human kids back then who had nothing, who were covered in dirt and living on the streets. He saw them not as problems, but as people worth saving, people who deserved a second chance at life."
She paused, her voice growing even softer.
The only thing you need to worry about is... when you regain your health again.
And after you meet him properly.
She smiled, caressing Gracelle’s head with her glowing hand.
Because I’m sure.
By the time you meet him again, and when you realize who he truly is...
You will be just like me, Gloria, Felicia, Delya, and Mimi.
Or even worse.
You will be the one who spreads your own legs for him without a second thought, willingly giving your body and heart to him, just as we all have.
Liana smiled softly to herself. "So sleep well, little one."
She turned and left the room, closing the door softly behind her.
I guess it’s time for me to rest.
Liana yawned softly behind her mask.
Guess I should tell Myra and the others to check on her when it’s time for her next examination.
She glanced around.
Hmm? Weird.
She looked at the table where Myra usually sat, and the other healers who were supposed to be on duty.
They were all slumped in their chairs or leaning against the walls, fast asleep. Kalea was curled up on a cot in the corner, her breathing deep and even. The other healers in the room were also asleep, some leaning back in chairs, others curled up on nearby benches, all sleeping soundly.
Don’t tell me...
Did everyone fall asleep after I hummed the lullaby earlier?
Liana’s expression shifted, her usual stern composure melting away into something far more vulnerable. Her lips trembled, and she pressed them together in a tight, frustrated pout. Her eyes, usually sharp and serious, now shimmered with unshed tears of pure, exhausted annoyance.
She let out a soft, choked sob, more from frustration than sorrow.
Now I can’t sleep...
She channeled her mana into her mana talkie, her voice trembling as she spoke.
"Young... master..."
A soft crackle came from the mana talkie before a concerned voice was heard.
"L... Liana? What happened? Why does your voice sound like you’re about to cry?"
Liana’s pout deepened. "Uwaaa!! I just want to sleep!!" she wailed into the talkie, her frustration bubbling over.
