Chapter 1226: The Safety of the Nest ( 1226 )
There was a brief pause on the other end before Juria responded, her tone professional and unwavering.
"Understood, Your Highness. I will mobilize my team immediately. We’ll be there shortly."
"Thank you, Juria. I’ll make sure you and your team get an extra bonus. I owe you all for this."
"Not at all, Your Highness. It’s our duty. We’ll take over right away."
"Mm... I’ll be waiting for you and your team to arrive here."
Javier let out a quiet sigh of relief, adjusting Liana once more in his arms. Her silver hair spilled over his shoulder, and her face, now relaxed in sleep, looked softer than ever. Her long eyelashes rested against her cheeks, and her lips, usually set in a firm line, were slightly parted, breathing softly.
He smiled.
This is the first time I’ve seen her like this.
She never shows any side of herself other than her usual serious or graceful demeanor.
But today, I got to see her childish side.
Man... I wonder how many more sides of her I’ll get to see in the future.
He leaned down and kissed her cheek softly.
And after hearing what Liana said about Gracelle... it means her condition is getting better. The fact that she’s alert enough to want company, to talk and even be a little stubborn... it’s a good sign.
Javier smiled softly, his expression tender as he looked down at Liana’s sleeping face.
She might be carrying too much strain, always attentive to the needs of her co-wives and still finding time to care for me. She gives so much of herself to everyone else, rarely pausing to rest or show her own weariness. And yet, she never complains.
He caressed her cheek gently and whispered softly.
"I’m sorry, Liana... for not noticing how tired you’ve been, for adding to your burden when I should be lightening it. And thank you... for always being with me, for supporting me, for staying by my side even when you’re exhausted."
Javier smile softly.
That’s why I want her. That’s why I chose her. Not just because she’s beautiful or graceful or powerful, but because her heart is vast enough to hold all of us, and yet she still finds space to love me completely. Even when she’s frustrated, she still tries her best.
Javier took a seat on a nearby chair while still holding Liana in his arms, her head resting against his shoulder, her body relaxed in sleep.
He caressed her hair gently, his gaze soft.
He glanced up as the door opened. Juria entered with several members of her healer unit, already in full medical attire. They stopped at a respectful distance and bowed gracefully.
"Your Highness."
"Mm..." Javier smiled. "Since everyone is... well... asleep," he began, nodding toward Myra, Kalea, and the others who were still unconscious around the room, "I need you to prepare beds and blankets for them. And I’m sorry, but your work shift will continue until Myra, Kalea, and the others wake up."
Juria smiled warmly, her demeanor calm and respectful. "Please don’t worry about it, Your Highness. It’s our duty, and we’re honored to assist. We’ll ensure everything is taken care of."
"Mm... I’ll take my leave now." Javier glanced down at Liana, his expression softening. "This one has already drifted off, and I should bring her to her room so she can rest properly."
He shifted slightly, making sure Liana was secure in his arms before continuing. "Contact me via mana talkie if anything happens. Once the patient wakes up, you may give her a small amount of water, just a few sips to moisten her throat, but not too much. Her body is still recovering, so we need to be careful."
"As you command, Your Highness." Juria and the other healers stood straight, offering another graceful bow.
Javier stood up, whispering softly into Liana’s ear, "Let’s head to our room."
He glanced around as Juria and her team carefully lifted the sleeping healers onto stretchers or guided them to beds in the adjacent room, ensuring each was comfortably settled before quietly departing.
Carrying Liana securely in his arms, he walked out of the building. Just outside the entrance, he paused and snapped his fingers. Two puppet knights, armed with fully automated mana rifles and layered detection systems, materialized on either side of the door.
"Guard this area," Javier commanded, his voice low but clear. "Ensure no enemy slips past the main entrance. Activate full-spectrum detection. Thermal, mana signature, motion. Report any anomalies immediately."
[Affirmative. Perimeter secured. Detection systems active.]
The knights took up positions on either side of the entrance, mana rifles held at ready, their sensor arrays glowing faintly.
Javier turned and carried Liana toward the next building. Garak and Marcor, standing guard at the entrance, snapped to attention the moment they saw him, each placing a fist over their left chest in a respectful bow.
"Your Highness."
Javier offered a tired but warm smile. "At ease, both of you."
"Understood, Your Highness."
He headed inside and made his way upstairs, reaching their room on the first floor. He carefully opened the door, not wanting to wake anyone.
Inside, Gloria, Felicia, Delya, and Mimi were already fast asleep on the large bed, tangled together comfortably under soft blankets. Gloria was hugging a pillow, Felicia had one arm draped over Delya, and Mimi’s ears twitched slightly as she dreamed.
Javier smiled and carefully laid Liana down on the bed, trying to ease her into a comfortable position. But just as he was about to pull away, Liana’s arms tightened around him, pulling him close in a sleepy, possessive hug.
Javier chuckled softly, seeing how Liana’s face was pressed against his chest, her expression peaceful and content, her arms wrapped tightly around him as if she never wanted to let go.
I guess I have no choice but to sleep and rest with everyone.
Even if there’s another important matter waiting, like the mysterious group I saw on the mana satellite feed, or the strange weapons and prisoner camp in Amazarak. I can’t just leave her like this.
And honestly... I feel a little tired anyway.
He smiled and adjusted his position on the bed, pulling the blanket over both of them and gently guiding Liana’s head to rest against his chest. He glanced up at the ceiling, his thoughts drifting.
I’m sure by now Father is already managing everything. I wonder what his reaction will be after reading the report I provided earlier... the one about the unknown forces in Amazarak and the possible threat they pose.
He glanced at Liana, her silver hair spilling across his arm, and smiled.
Well... that matter is for later.
For now... I’ll just rest.
His eyes grew heavy, the exhaustion of the past few days finally catching up to him. The warmth of Liana against him, the soft breathing of the others in the room, and the quiet safety of the moment lulled him into a deep, peaceful sleep.
