Chapter 1263: Shifting the Conversation ( 1263 )
Armand Nation.
In the new building within the Armand Estate.
Garius stood in an observation room on the first floor, a glass-walled chamber that overlooked the open courtyard at the center of the round building. Sunlight streamed in from above, casting a warm glow over the space below.
He watched as Javier moved through the courtyard, wearing a specialized headset with a sleek, futuristic helm, mana-enhanced glasses displaying live data, a small microphone curving near his lips, and motion controllers strapped to his wrists and hands. His movements were precise, each gesture mirrored by the golden knight on the distant battlefield.
Garius sat in a comfortable chair beside a small side table, where Erinette gracefully poured a deep crimson wine into his golden crystal glass. Alf stood nearby, his posture attentive but relaxed.
Garius rubbed his chin, observing Javier’s excited movements as he controlled the golden knight from afar.
Hmm... looks like Javier is thoroughly enjoying this new invention of his.
Garius took a slow sip of his wine, his eyes never leaving his youngest son.
He upgraded the main material to pure gold from his last mana remote knight, the one he used to capture the vampire spy. And he managed to add new functions to his own invention within an hour after I briefed him on the mission details.
Garius smirked, a glint of pride in his eyes.
I wonder how he plans to execute the main mission after this.
He paused, his expression turning thoughtful.
I also wonder how he intends to gather information on those unknown groups, the summoned heroes from the other continent. I’ve deliberately let him plan this on his own. I want to see how clever my youngest son truly is when it comes to intelligence gathering and strategy.
He glanced at Javier, who was making gesture after gesture while mumbling something under his breath.
Hmm... I wonder what he’s saying. I can’t hear him from here, but his movements seem deliberate, like he’s testing the knight’s combat maneuvers.
I really want to see if those gestures match the knight’s actions on the battlefield.
He shook his head with a faint smirk.
Whatever.
Good thing he built a new type of remote control knight that syncs directly with the mana satellite for an uninterrupted link. This means if he builds more for our personnel and trains them to use it, we could deploy these knights into high-risk missions without endangering our soldiers’ lives.
They could scout enemy territories, infiltrate fortified positions, and engage in combat without putting our men in direct danger.
Since he already control all 130,000 of his puppet knights simultaneously, this new remote knight system gives us an even greater advantage in intelligence gathering, infiltration, and surgical strikes against high-value targets.
"Dear~?"
Garius turned as the door opened and Francesca stepped inside gracefully, accompanied by her group of special elite maids behind her.
"Yes, honey?"
Francesca smiled and took a seat beside Garius, leaning her head gently on his shoulder.
"Watching our youngest son enjoy himself with his invention?"
"Sort of." Garius said with a small chuckle. "You know, with the upcoming enemy, especially those three so-called goddesses... Maekaria, Zeyrinda, and Rafazelia."
Francesca’s face turned serious the moment she heard the names.
"How dare lowly spirits like them claim the title of goddess."
Garius smiled and glanced at Francesca, his voice gentle but firm. "Don’t let them ruin your mood, dear. They’re not worth your anger."
He turned his gaze back to Javier, who was now laughing with both hands on his hips.
"Soon, we will crush those fake goddesses." Garius’s right eye began to glow, a full, intricate pattern of light forming in front of his eye, the Eyes of Truth activating. "With our own hands."
"Mm~" Francesca smiled, her eyes and body beginning to glow with a faint, beautiful white light that radiated from her skin. Her voice dropped to a low, serious tone. "But don’t you dare lay a hand on them, dear. That task is mine. I will be the one to finish all three of them."
Garius let out a soft laugh.
"Sorry, honey. I can’t promise you that. We don’t know what will happen in the future, and you know I’m not someone who throws promises around lightly."
"My~ Really? Hmm?" Francesca gave him a teasing side glance, a playful smile curling on her lips. "Ah~ I wonder... back in the day, there was someone who kept throwing promises to the girls. Like Eridith... and Mylezra~"
Garius averted his eyes and lifted his wine glass, taking a slow sip. "I... well... that was in the past. And since you were the one who insisted I take them as my wives... I didn’t have a choice, did I?"
"Arara~ But I still remember there are two more girls who haven’t become my co-wives yet. I wonder how much longer you’re going to make them wait to become official wives."
"Ah..." Garius glanced around before pretending to focus intently on Javier in the open courtyard, who was making dramatic gestures with his arms, striking a pose like a soaring hero.
"Look at our youngest son, honey. He’s really enjoying himself, isn’t he?" Garius said, trying to shift the conversation away from Francesca’s teasing.
"My my~ Looks like someone is trying to avoid the topic~" Francesca chuckled, resting her chin on her palm and gracefully crossing her legs. "Ah~ Poor Nyxara. Her brother is your best friend, your closest ally, but she never gets to hear you fulfill that promise you made to her."
She leaned closer, her tone gentle but mischievous.
"Aw~ Even though she’s a demon girl, who also happens to be our youngest son’s fiancée Delya’s older sister... hmm~ Shy, reserved. You know, she just contacted me recently after the Demon Nation received their mana radio. We chatted for a while, and she subtly hinted about certain promises that haven’t been fulfilled yet. You know, living longer than humans doesn’t mean she should be kept waiting forever, dear."
Garius put down the wine glass and smiled, glancing at Francesca. "But I already fulfilled my promises to Eridith and Mylezra, right?"
"Yes~ you did. But there are two more you haven’t." Francesca lifted her hot chocolate mug and took a gentle sip before smiling at Garius. "So I think it’s time for you to fulfill your promise to Nyxara, don’t you agree? She’s been waiting for you long enough, and it’s only right to honor your word."
Garius exhaled before scratching his cheek and glancing back at Javier in the courtyard.
"Can we... discuss this after everything else is settled? You know, with the missions, the troubles, and the problems we still have to handle..."
Francesca smiled warmly. "Well... if you say so." She took another sip of her hot chocolate before setting the mug down. "Anyway, dear~"
"Hmm?" Garius glanced and tilted his head toward her. "What is it, honey?"
"Nyxara is coming to visit Delya this week~"
Garius, who had been calm and composed with his usual stern expression, turned his head sharply toward Francesca, his eyes widening slightly.
"W... what?"
