Chapter 1378: The Man in White ( 1378 )
Chapter 1378: The Man in White ( 1378 )
Javier slowly rose to his feet, his eyes sweeping across the landscape in awe.
The trees around him were unlike anything he had ever seen, not on Earth, not in the new world. Their trunks shimmered with a soft, iridescent glow, and their leaves carried hues of deep violet, silver, and gold. Strange fruits hung from the branches, glowing in colors that seemed to shift and pulse with a life of their own, colors that didn’t exist in any natural world he knew.
What is this place?
He turned slowly, taking in every detail.
Is this still the forest in Armand?
No… I don’t think so. I’ve been through the Armand forest countless times. I know every path, every clearing, every hidden corner.
But I’ve never seen a place as beautiful as this.
He paused, closing his eyes as he took a deep breath. It was crisp, clean, and carried a faint, sweet fragrance that reminded him of blooming flowers and fresh rain. As the air filled his lungs, he felt an immediate, soothing effect. His breathing became smoother, his body felt lighter, healthier, and more energized. A profound sense of calm washed over him, easing away any lingering tension or fatigue.
He opened his eyes, a look of wonder spreading across his face.
“Wow…”
He murmured softly, a sense of awe settling in his chest.
“What is this feeling?”
Javier took a slow, calm step forward, his senses fully immersed in the serene beauty around him. The pale glowing grass beneath his feet felt soft and warm, and the gentle sound of a nearby running stream added to the peaceful atmosphere, calming him even further.
He paused beside a cluster of flowers, their petals shifting through a spectrum of colors, from deep indigo to soft rose. He reached out, his fingers hovering just above the petals, feeling a faint, gentle warmth radiating from them.
He continued walking, drawn deeper into the clearing, until his gaze fell upon a figure sitting beneath a large, luminous tree in the distance.
The man was reading a book, his posture relaxed and graceful. He wore a simple yet elegant white outfit that shimmer with a soft, inner light. His features were ethereal, sharp yet gentle, with eyes that held the depth of the sky and a smile that radiate calm.
The man glanced up from his book, his gaze meeting Javier’s. A calm, knowing smile spread across his lips.
“I’ve been waiting for you.”
Javier blinked, taken aback.
Huh?
He glanced around, half expecting someone else to be nearby, but they were alone.
Who is he talking to?
The man chuckled softly, gesturing for Javier to come closer.
“Yes, you. Come closer, little one.”
Javier pointed toward himself, his voice cautious. “Me?”
The man set his book down, resting his chin on the back of his hand, his elbow propped on the glowing table beside him. He crossed his legs gracefully, his eyes fixed on Javier with an amused glint. “Who else? It’s just me and you here.”
Javier narrowed his eyes, suspicion flickering across his face. He shook his head firmly.
“Nope. I don’t know you.”
The man simply smiled, shaking his head slowly, his chin still resting on his hand.
“How is Fransesca?”
Javier’s eyes sharpened, his posture shifting into a guarded stance.
“How do you know about my mother?”
The man smiled softly, remaining silent.
Javier took a step back, his hand slowly moving toward the weapon holstered at his back waist, gripping the handle tightly.
“You didn’t answer my question. How do you know about my mother?” His voice was low, sharp, and filled with protective intensity.
The man’s smile remained calm, his voice gentle.
“I know her from before you were born, little one. That is all you need to know for now.”
Javier’s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening on his weapon. “You’re suspicious.”
The man chuckled, raising both hands in a placating gesture. “No~ I’m not. Hey, I’m a good guy, alright? No need to be so tense.”
“I don’t trust you.” Javier’s voice was firm, his eyes sharp. “Perhaps you’re the one using some kind of world expansion skill to create a separate fighting area. Luring me here while your men go after my family.”
“What? No, no, no~” The man raised both palms in a gesture of innocence. “There’s no such skill in any part of that world. Even the most advanced magic doesn’t have that kind of ability.”
“No. I’ve seen it before. I’ve experienced it once.” Javier gripped a second blade from his back waist, holding both weapons. “During a practice match with my father.”
The man let out a soft laugh, shaking his head. “What? Garius used that? Hey, hey… that’s not world expansion. That’s a protective dome skill. It’s designed to contain any dangerous skills used inside so they don’t leak out and harm others.”
Javier gritted his jaw, his suspicion deepening. “You even know my father. And yet you still won’t tell me how you know them. That makes you even more suspicious.”
He unsheathed his weapon in a flash, his body tensing as he attempted to use his signature move, a burst of speed that would normally allow him to vanish and reappear in an instant.
But instead of the familiar surge of power, he simply moved at normal speed, not the instantaneous flash he was used to.
He stopped abruptly, his eyes widening in shock.
“What?”
The man smiled, stretching his arms in a calm, lazy motion. He looked at Javier with half-lidded eyes, gesturing with both hands.
“This place doesn’t allow fighting, little one. No dangerous weapons, no skills, nothing that could disturb the peace here.”
Javier glanced down at his hands, watching in disbelief as his white ore blades slowly separated into shimmering particles, dissolving into the air like fragile bubbles. He gritted his teeth, forcing himself to calm down. He focused, channeling his mana, but only a faint, flickering trace responded to his call.
The man raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his voice. “Oho~ Look at that. You can still use a sliver of mana from that world. Interesting~”
Javier’s eyes snapped up. In an instant, he launched himself forward, his fist coated with the faint remnants of his mana, aiming directly at the man’s face.
The man raised one finger, catching Javier’s fist with effortless grace. A gentle smile spread across his lips.
“You really are full of surprises, aren’t you? A son of Fransesca, indeed. Talented, determined… and quite reckless.”
Before Javier could react, the man flicked his forehead gently.
The force sent Javier flying backward, crashing into a nearby tree. He slumped to the ground, groaning in pain, his vision blurring before darkness claimed him.
The man exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish expression.
“Oops… I might have overdone it a little.”
