Chapter 1339: Merits
Chapter 1339: Merits
The festivities in the Sacred Tree continued. For the demi-humans, it was because of the relief of finding themselves safe after all the hardships that they experienced throughout this tumultuous time. After all, they were almost all enslaved by an insidious assassin hiding as their Monarch for the better part of the month.
As for the two Conglomerates, they too celebrated just for simply surviving against the attack. They might not have been able to do what they set out to do when they first started this mission, but at least they gained allies in exchange.
Now that they were allies with the Reborn company, this meant that by extension, they were allies with the demi-humans as well. And that was a privilege that not even the other Conglomerates could say that they have had the opportunity to do so.
Meanwhile, the Rebornian soldiers celebrated for a completely different reason.
They celebrated because they were getting paid!
After all of their hard work, these Rebornian soldiers, these Shadow Orcs, and everyone else involved in this Chasm was now given a lot of ’Rebornian’ merit for them to spend on.
"Yes! Hahaha! I can finally buy an enhanced version of my Mithril Artifact!"
"Hmmm... what should I spend my merit on? Maybe a new skill would be nice. Maybe I’ll try asking for something that will help me become faster, instead of stronger."
"I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely am buying my GodForge pieces first. I feel like I can finally advance to the next stage of the Body Formation realm!"
"Me too!"
"BU TO TO! I shall finally advance to become a Medium Penumbra!"
"RAH TA TA! I’m so jealous! Did you hear that Orcera has been promoted to become a High Penumbra? He got lucky he got assigned with the mission to spy on the Magical Monsters. Otherwise, I would have gotten enough merit to be promoted too!"
Each and every Rebornian here had been given their missions through the shared ’system’ managed by ChatJK6 herself.
They could access their missions in their brain like Michael could. They could message themselves there, they could accept missions there, heck, they could even spend the merits they had there to upgrade the skills that they already had.
That was why a lot of them were so eager to accept dangerous missions. They didn’t care about the risks. They only cared about the rewards.
It was at this point that the other human soldiers began to hear about what they were talking about.
The Rebornian soldiers weren’t exactly being quiet when they were bragging about what they were going to purchase.
"Excuse me, what did you just say?" asked a soldier from the Vanderbilt army. "Did you say that you can buy a GodForge piece from your ’merits’?"
The Rebornian soldier nodded. "Yep!"
Now, the soldiers from the Vanderbilt army weren’t exactly being paid poorly. In fact, they were being compensated very well compared to other armies. However, they weren’t given enough riches to purchase their own GodForge pieces!
"How much are these people getting paid?!"
They were even saying that they were going to purchase some Mithril Artifacts from the ’system store’---whatever that was.
No one could believe it. Were these Rebornian soldiers really that well-off? How could the Reborn company be so generous in their rewards?!
But perhaps the most baffling thing that the human soldiers, the Lionhearts included, saw was the fact that these Rebornian soldiers could somehow purchase ’skills’ like it was a simple exchange like wheat or other food products.
For example, one of the Rebornian soldiers announced that he would be buying a movement skill called ’Misty Step’.
And suddenly, after closing his eyes, a golden aura surrounded his very being. Then a few seconds later, the man disappeared into a mist, before reappearing tens of meters away from his original position.
Caliburn, Levi, and Theresa were completely shellshocked when they saw this.
They had seen the Rebornian soldiers in action before. And yes, some of them had certain skills that were innate within them thanks to their Aubility Power.
However, in just a second, that golden aura had enveloped the soldier and enhanced his skill into a completely different level!
That was impossible!
As Nascent Spirit cultivators, they knew just how hard it was to cultivate skills. It was something that could only be discovered through hard work, practice, and a lot of time.
Only through experimentation could a cultivator know something about themselves to finally awaken a skill.
And it would take even more time to develop that skill into something more powerful, something more evolved.
The example of this would be Caliburn’s flaming sword skill. With his Aubility Power, he could create phoenixes out of anything that the fire in his sword touched.
It was a very powerful skill, one that he used to dominate against other swordsmen. But it wasn’t overbearing all the time.
Twenty years ago, that phoenix was barely even the shape of a bird. And he could only control one of them at a time.
But through practice and cultivation, he turned that bird into a phoenix. And now, he could control thousands of these creatures at the same time without problem. He could control them all as if they had a mind of their own.
That was the development of a skill.
But these soldiers... they just announced that they were going to buy a skill evolution and somehow, they did it. That easily. No hardship, no training, nothing.
It was impossible! And if they didn’t see it from their own eyes, they wouldn’t have believed it themselves.
But now, their eyes were truly open.
This was how Reborn had become so strong in such a short amount of time.
After that troublesome affair, the Rebornian army had somehow achieved a substantial growth that basically multiplied their strength by twice that of normal!
Not even armies who experience battle daily could have such a pronounced growth in such a short amount of time!
