Chapter 1338: Collecting Conglomerates

Michael and the two Conglomerate subleaders all met under one roof. The last time this happened, they were still in the overworld, with both Theresa and Levi not even considering Michael as a peer.

But now, the situation had been completely reversed.

Both Levi and Theresa knew that they had failed in their own goals. They had neither conquered the Chasm, nor did they find a way to build a bridge through it.

Michael was the one who did those things.

He had completed what most others would consider as impossible. He did not destroy the demi-human kingdom. Instead, he forged an alliance with them, making them even stronger than before.

Which meant that they now only had three possible choices they could make.

One was to simply try and wrestle control over the Chasm away from the Reborn company. Immediately, this choice was thrown out by the two.

They already saw how powerful Michael’s army was. His soldiers used the Eternal Flame swordstyle, making them the most dangerous army in the making. And not to mention those strange floating weapons... it was simply impossible to defeat the Reborn company without making it a pyrrhic victory.

And now that he had forged an alliance with the demi-human kingdom, their control over the Chasm was basically unshakeable at this point.

One of the reasons why no one had considered making an alliance with the demi-humans was because it was simply too hard.

First of all, these demi-humans had a tendency to hate humans. So, any kind of diplomacy would be immediately thrown out of the window. And second, even if there was a deal struck between them, the demi-humans would still be in great control of the Chasm, allowing them to dictate the terms instead of the Conglomerates.

That was why many chose the path of destruction. If they defeated the demi-humans, they would have sole control of the Chasm. No one to share profits with when building the bridge.

But now that the Reborn company had done the impossible and forged a true alliance with the demi-human kingdom, it would be a lot harder to eradicate them from the chasm.

The demi-humans’ guerilla tactics combined with Reborn’s powerful resources would completely dominate any battle. Even Conglomerates would have no choice but to concede.

That was why both Levi and Theresa knew that they had to choose the path of peace, too.

Only by allying themselves with Michael will they find a way to be victorious in this Chasm.

"You want an alliance with me?" Michael asked them. "Why?"

Of course, the answer was obvious. But Michael was trying to prod them about why they truly wanted to form an alliance with him.

He didn’t want to hear something shallow, like profits and money and such.

He wanted to know why he should trust them to be in an alliance.

"To be honest," said Theresa. "An alliance will help me tremendously. If you don’t know by now, I am not a powerful or resourceful heir in the Goldstone Conglomerate.

My other siblings have much more powerful armies and resources. So, the only way for me to survive is to make alliances.

But... in all the alliances I have made, I have always been the primary leader amongst them. It’s the advantage of my last name. Goldstones demand respect.

However... I realized that I truly didn’t know anything about alliances until I saw what you did. You... you were able to turn the demi-humans around. You were able to make them like you. I thought that was impossible. I thought it was useless.

But... you proved me wrong. And I want to learn from you. That’s truly why I want to become allies with you," said Theresa.

She poured her heart out. Everything she said was from the heart.

Perhaps, she was influenced by the Golden Aura around Michael, making her feel disarmed and comfortable enough to share her insecurities. But everything she said was true.

Levi, on the other hand, had a harder time opening up.

"An alliance with me... it will not benefit you. I can see that you already have powerful resources, powerful connections, and a powerful army. You do not need me.

However... I can help you. I want to help you. I owe you my life. And I feel as if I’m indebted to you so much that I want to help you preserve this... Reborn of yours."

Michael heard both of their pleas and smiled.

"Alright. Let’s be allies," he said to them, earning their surprise.

That easily? They thought he’d demand more.

But in truth, Michael was already planning on making an alliance with them even before this. That was his ideal, after all. Everyone working together to create a unified goal of making the world a more comfortable place.

And that wouldn’t happen if he made enemies amongst everyone.

Besides, it was always helpful to make alliances with Conglomerates. It was his way of fighting them from the inside. Divide and conquer. Slowly make them his allies one by one.

He did it with the Oscorpe Conglomerate, allying himself with Trilla.

Now, he had Levi for the Vanderbilts. And Theresa for the Goldstone Company.

Now, the only ones he needed to complete the set were Sinclair’s Elixir Conglomerate as well as the Hepheasteus Company.

"You’re really allowing us to be allies?" Levi asked.

"Yes. I’m not naive. I may have found a way to build a bridge in the Chasm, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all good from now on.

I know I’ll face a lot of setbacks from other people. Conglomerates. Organizations. And most especially, the Ersatz.

Facing them alone will make it a lot more troublesome than it needs it to be. So, I would rather have friends to help me with it.

"Friends..." Levi and Theresa both muttered that word under their breaths.

And eventually, they all turned towards Michael, finding his figure to be a lot more golden than it was before.

Perhaps, it wasn’t bad to follow someone like Michael. Perhaps, they would be doing themselves a favor by becoming friends with a possible Supreme Being.
