Chapter 1356: Chasm trouble

Michael immediately teleported over to the Chasm and saw that there was a large crowd that had gathered just at the lip near the camps.

On one side was the Rebornian soldiers. They were at attention, holding their weapons to the side and maintaining a defensive position. On the other side was a mismatched group of people, seemingly adventurers, all looking as if they were ready to barge through the Rebornian soldiers at any moment.

"What’s happening?" he asked Theresa.

"It’s the hyenas," she muttered with a bitter tone.

"What do you mean?"

"They’re the animals that pounce whenever they think that something is weak."

Michael looked around and realized that there was nobody else here but the Reborn company. Meaning, they were the ones being perceived as weak.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Levi is gone. Meaning, the Vanderbilt presence here has diminished. And the Goldstone Coalition has already dispersed thanks to my disappearance from my family.

Now, there’s nothing here but you. And as much as we would like it, people still perceive Reborn as a Lower Echelon company."

Michael furrowed his brows. He looked at the people trying to get into the Chasm. They looked to be from different companies banding together to make a stronger and more formidable group.

"They’re trying to assert control over the Chasm?"

"Yes," Theresa replied. "You have already shown that Reborn is the one who is rightfully allowed to build here in the Chasm. These people know that. They just know that they still have a chance to take it from you."

It was at this point that Michael felt a little bit bitter. If it was the Conglomerates who had taken control of this Chasm, these people would not have had the audacity to try and claim that this Chasm was theirs.

But Michael understood the risk they were trying to make. After all, it was better to challenge a Lower Echelon Company rather than a Conglomerate. And if they just won over Reborn, then they would then have one of the most sought after real estate here in the Royal Continent. It was a high risk, stupendously high reward situation.

"I am sorry. But you cannot enter the Chasm," said one of the soldiers in the front line.

One of the adventurers, one who had a more vocal resentment against Reborn, spoke out:

"Huh? What do you mean? Now, you own this place? Unbelievable! You cannot just say that you own a piece of land from Earth! What if I just claim this place all on my own, huh?"

Behind him, numerous other people began voicing their complaints against Reborn.

It was at this point that Loren, the Mankey King himself, stepped forward and revealed himself to the general public.

Even the most vocal people on the other side went quiet when they saw this intimidating figure emerge from the Rebornian soldiers.

They had never seen such a powerful-looking demi-human before. They had seen Red Mankeys. But this one looked completely different from those seen at the Chasm. He was more human, yet strangely, inhuman as well with the way that his very body oozed natural strength.

"No one owns the Chasm," Loren said. "This place is something that only the sun god has dominion over. And even if someone were to lay claim on it, then it is only natural that those who have resided over it for hundreds of years are the ones that deserve to own it."

Behind Loren, the Red Mankey soldiers agreed in unison. They tapped their feet on the ground, creating a tremor that made the humans shake and quiver in fear.

Truly, even in the court of law, only the demi-humans would have the final say over the Chasm itself. Even if the demi-human kingdom or the Nymph Monarch had yet to establish and form a contract that stated that this land was theirs, no one could take it from them.

In all legality, they had sole possession of the Chasm. No one could argue that it wasn’t. The only way to pry it off their hands was to defeat them in combat and make them disperse from their own homes, which was why the Conglomerates tried to conquer the demi-human kingdom in the first place.

After Loren said his peace, the opposing humans made a temporary retreat.

However, it was clear they weren’t going to give up. They had made camp near the Chasm. They may have stopped today, but they would certainly try and try again tomorrow and onwards.

Michael knew that the only way to truly stop this was through a show of force.

With one command, he could order his troops to start fighting these opposing humans into a permanent retreat. Even deploying his Mini Drones en masse would do the trick.

But that was too barbaric.

Michael was thinking about something more... strategic. Something that would be beneficial to Reborn in a bigger way.

So, he wanted to make a declaration.

Once Theresa heard about this, she immediately wanted to reject it. "Are you kidding me?! This is way too risky with very little reward!"

Michael didn’t think so. Yes, it was risky. But it would also bring Michael exactly what he needed.

Theresa couldn’t believe it. She could only watch helplessly as Michael instructed his people to start sending out the messages to anyone who would want to hear it.

It wasn’t long before the announcement was spread to the opposing side of the Chasm.

"Are they serious?"

"Is this real? They’re really betting the entire Chasm on this?"

"They must have gained a huge amount of ego when they won against the demi-human kingdom. They’re actually trying to take on every single one of us!"

Michael had one single announcement.

Whoever shall win a duel against the Reborn company, they shall win the rights to the Chasm in perpetuity.

This was an incredible turn of events! Conglomerates and Upper Echelon companies immediately got up off their seats once they heard this. It was a chance for them!

But of course, it was also a chance for Reborn.

After all, they stipulated that in this duel, the opposing party must also bet an item or property that is equivalent to the Chasm.
