Chapter 1378: New target
Chapter 1378: New target
Michael looked down at Draco. "Now, I know who exactly I need to fight. Thank you."
Draco looked completely flustered. "You... You’re crazy! You can’t fight against Worcester!"
"That’s not for you to decide," Michael said. Then, he raised his hand, letting nature take care of his opponent.
"Let me go! Don’t trap me here!" Draco shouted, his words becoming more of a plea as he felt the roots of the environment clamp itself harder on his body.
Michael thought of it as a fitting punishment. This Sanctum Duel wouldn’t end until Draco was completely knocked out.
And thankfully, these trees and the environment around Draco would savor the experience of siphoning a Nascent Spirit cultivator’s life essence slowly. They would trap him here, draining his life hellishly. And he couldn’t do anything to stop it.
The more life essence was sucked out of him, the less he was able to fight. And with his natural vitality as a Nascent Spirit cultivator, he’d be able to last for years, or even decades here as a statue. Being a source of life for the environment around him.
After all, they hurt themselves grievously when they took the brunt of the force of the EoV soldiers’ explosion.
A large crater the size of an entire city was left behind in its wake, with multiple trees and natural formations becoming wrecked because of it.
So, they needed to take out their due debt. Draco would pay for it. Eventually.
Michael looked at his men and nodded. Then, they waited as the pulling force of the Sanctum evicted them from the Pocket Dimension, leaving them back to the real world.
Once again, their appearance left a lot of spectators stunned into silence.
They watched as every single Rebornian soldier and musician get transported back into the camp, scott-free.
"It’s over?!"
"The Sanctum Duel is done!"
"I wonder who won?"
"Look at their leader. He doesn’t look that bad... Did he win?"
Of course, eventually, the spectators found something quite startling. "Where’s Draco and the rest?"
Seconds passed. Minutes. And eventually, an hour later, there was absolutely no sign of the Ease of Vindication soldiers appearing out of the Sanctum!
"Where are they?!"
"Did something wrong happen in the Sanctum?"
"How could something wrong happen? Don’t you know who that girl is? She’s Yuna Montgomery! She’s Xere’s granddaughter and prized heir! No way she’s going to make a mistake in her Sanctum creation."
However, the EoV army’s absence was clearly noted.
It wasn’t just the soldiers. It was Draco himself. Everyone knew that the bloodthirsty heir of the Ease of Vindication was a man who would not go down lightly.
They expected him to appear out of the Sanctum, bloodied, but with a smile of triumph on his face.
But instead, there was none.
And eventually, the realization settled in. "No way.... Are they... are they..."
"They’re all dead."
It was at this point that a strange silence began to permeate throughout the entirety of the spectating guests.
The EoV army was decimated. The Rebornian army left no survivors!
This was horrifying! No one could believe that the Rebornian army, a company known only for their inventions, had the power to deliver such devastating power to a high-ranked Upper Echelon company. Much less actually have the guts to do it so openly!
"Isn’t this illegal?"
"Didn’t the Montgomerys ban duels to the death?"
"They did... which means, if the Reborn company truly did kill their opponent, then they would get in big trouble with the Montgomery family."
However, Yuna did nothing. She stood there, congratulating the soldiers of Reborn for a good job.
"She’s not persecuting them?"
"Is this favoritism?"
It was at this point that a robed figure emerged from the crowd. "It means that the Reborn company didn’t cause their deaths...," he said with a knowing voice.
The other spectators around him frowned. "How could that happen?"
"If a rule is broken, not even that girl can stop the natural power of the Montgomerys. That Sanctum would have sent a signal that could be seen throughout the entire world. Such a large-scale tragedy would not be ignored so easily.
So, this could only mean one thing. The EoV’s deaths are not caused by the Rebornian’s. There is no shadow of a doubt about that. Otherwise, it would have caused an investigation."
"Then... that means... the EoV soldiers did it themselves? But why?"
"Wait... isn’t it rumored that the Ease of Vindication company is linked with the Oscorpe Conglomerate?"
The hooded figure stayed silent. The implication in their words, heavy on his mind.
As a Mystic Master, he was no stranger to the viciousness of the elites. And especially so with the Conglomerates and their heirs fighting over each other in a civil war to take over their family business.
It seemed like this one was exactly that. A brutal move to try and get rid of an opponent to better their chances at an inheritance.
The Mystic Master looked towards the distance, towards the Rebornian soldiers in their celebratory mood. Then, he peered towards their leader. Michael. A man of legend and history.
Has the Rebornian company already reached a level when even the Conglomerates were starting to get threatened by them? He had been away from the Royal Continent for far too long, it seemed. The status in the Upper Echelons had changed dramatically. Probably far too much, leading to much chaos.
And then, there was the absence of magic. Their disappearance had led him to an odyssey. A journey to try and get it back.
Right now, the keys to solving that riddle laid in front of that very youth being showered with accolades and laudations. Michael stood in front of a wooden chest, containing the very Artifact said to have the clues to regaining magic in the world.
"I’m sorry, young one. But I need that more than you do," he said.
And suddenly, the hooded figure disappeared from the crowd. He stood up, there in the high heavens, dark clouds looming above him.
