Chapter 1398: Inferior prototype
Chapter 1398: Inferior prototype
"Is it ready?" a man with a hurried look on his face looked at the group of scientists and engineers in his room. There must have been about a hundred of them huddled around something.
"We’ve tried to replicate it the best we could," said the engineer. "But we just can’t solve just one more missing piece."
The man frowned. He looked at the prototype automobile that they had created and saw that it was nothing like the automobiles that the Rebornians created.
It looked a lot more primitive, with the inner mechanisms of the automobile visible to the outside like some unfinished work. And in comparison, the automobiles from Reborn had a sleek finish and could be found in vibrant colors.
"How about the speed?"
The scientist then shook his head. "We aren’t able to replicate the speed of the automobile, sir. It’s impossible."
"What?! How could it be impossible? I gave you all a thousand engines to copy and study and learn from. How can you not replicate it? There’s hundreds of you now. Are you telling me you’re all useless?!"
The engineers and the scientists all had dark lines under their eyes, evidence of their late night overtime work just trying to figure out the secrets of the automobiles.
"We can create a usable version of the automobile, no problem, sir. We already have found the secrets of the engine and we are able to replicate it with ease," said an engineer.
"Then what’s the problem!?!"
"Sir, the problem is that the Rebornians are doing something else to boost the performance, efficiency, power, and speed of their automobiles. They’re using this... thing."
The engineer took out something from the engine that they had just disassembled. "It’s called the Power Source. We tried to see what was inside this power source, but we couldn’t even cut into it!"
"What?" the man asked, taking the Unity Power Source in his hands. "What do you mean you can’t—"
It was at this moment that he felt the texture of the entire thing. It fit squarely on top of his palms and it was very thin and light.
However, the man was sure that the outer casing that this battery had was actually made out of Mithril!
"Mithril?!"
He couldn’t believe it. He couldn’t understand why the Rebornian company would waste such a precious material on their engines?! No wonder his engineers couldn’t cut through it. Mithril was the strongest material in the world, after all!
"Then, why don’t we just use these power sources to power our own engines and make them as powerful as the cars from Reborn."
"...we can’t, sir."
The man was confused. "What do you mean you can’t? Didn’t you just tell me that the only difference between our prototype and the Rebornian cars was this little power source? Then just plug it in ours!"
All of the scientists and the engineers in the room flashed him an embarrassed and shameful look.
"We tried... and it doesn’t work."
"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!"
The scientist, startled, jumped up and began explaining. "There seems to be an internal mechanism from the power source that’s trying to prevent unauthorized use."
The man couldn’t believe it. Does the Reborn company really have such powerful influences?
"Have you all given it to our Nascent Spirit cultivators to try and see what was inside?" he asked his engineers.
"They warned us not to, sir. They said that if we tried to open this power source forcefully, then our entire estate would be engulfed in a powerful explosion."
The man quickly dropped the Power Source back onto the table. That little thing could destroy their entire estate?! And they’re using it to boost the performance of their automobiles?! How crazy were the Rebornians?!
"URGH! Whatever. We need to make our automobiles faster! Much more faster than the Rebornians. Tell our Nascent Spirit cultivators to use their Influence to make our automobiles faster."
"But... sir, you realize that we won’t be able to do that for our commercial vehicles, right? We won’t be able to sell a thousand of them if we have to use our Nascent Spirit cultivators. They’d get exhausted."
"I know that! But look at what we just received in the mail," said the man, revealing a letter with the ’R’ symbol stamped on its front. "The Rebornian company is going to be entering the Elite Society soon. And they’re inviting everyone to a race!
They’re trying to make their mark on the general public by making sure that their automobiles are faster than all of our prototypes.
That’s why we’re going to make our automobiles faster, even if we have to use Nascent Influence to do it. We just have to show the general public that we’re the authority when it comes to automobiles, and that’s enough for our company to be imprinted into their minds. Do you all understand?"
The engineers and the scientists all nodded their heads, disappointed. Once again, magic won against science and engineering.
"We have to win this race," the man said. "The name of the Worcester company depends on our victory!"
Meanwhile, watching this on the side was a little shadow. He squirmed and moved around the engineers and the scientists as he recorded the whole situation and transmitted it back to the Nation of Reborn.

Michael watched the footage along with the other Shadow Orcs. "Hmmm... so they’re using that tactic."
If their opponents were going to be using Nascent Influence to fight against them, then their automobiles were certainly a little bit outclassed in terms of speed.
"Hahaha, but if they think that speed is all that matters in a race, then they’re definitely in for a huge surprise..."
Michael then teleported out of the Shadows and ended up on a large estate in the Nation of Reborn. Specifically, a garage that had a lot of cars stored inside.
"Are you ready for this, Elizabeth?"
She was their driver for the circuit, one half of the Royal Twins of Metropolis, and the daughter of Duchess Regina!
