Chapter 1417: Declaration
Chapter 1417: Declaration
Michael looked out and saw a bevy of hooded figures arriving near the valet of the mansion. They were presences filled with magic and mana. And in a world without mana, these figures stood out as if they had their own lights shining down on them from above.
It was very clear they were making their presence known. Every single important person in the ballroom all looked away and into the windows as they felt the Mystic Masters show off their own powers.
Michael observed them all. Four of them were old, with two being old men with white beards, while the other two were women with wrinkled faces. The very last person amongst them were a young man. A very young man, whose face was clear and without a hood, unlike the other ones next to him.
He immediately knew that this was the new Mystic Master. The very same one that had been the reason why Michael couldn’t enter into the secret library with four signatures.
Now, he needed five. And judging from the fact that he seemed to be very chummy with the four old Mystic Masters who were clearly in opposition of Reborn, it seemed that Michael wouldn’t have any chance of getting his signature.
He didn’t recognize the man. But thankfully, he didn’t have to. There were a lot of people in the room who were talking amongst each other and whispering.
"Is that the new Mystic Master? I haven’t seen his face before."
"Me too. And I frequent the Guild of Arcana library often."
"I heard that he was a talent that the Mystic Masters nurtured in the shadows. He wasn’t even included with the other students of the Guild!"
"And I heard that he was much more talented than all of them. Makes you wonder if he was made in a laboratory or something..."
"The Mystic Master of Light. What an overpowering Arcana magic."
Michael looked at the young man entering into the ballroom and indeed noticed that he was someone who seemed to have a limelight perpetually shining down on them. Light seemed to gravitate towards him as if he was some kind of heavenly body such as the sun and the stars and the moon.
And from what he heard, all Mystic Masters have a mastery over reality.
Seberus had mastery over fire. Anything fire-related, he had dominion over. He could create any kind of spell that was made out of fire mana, and conversely, he could nullify any kind of spell with it as well.
And if Michael were to compare that with this new Mystic Master, it would seem that he was a person who had complete mastery over light.
Light meant life. It was the very mana that indicated that someone or something was alive.
Meanwhile, the five Mystic Masters entered into the ballroom and sat down on their designated seats.
Many of the dukes and viscounts around them gave them all nods of acknowledgement and made some brief introductions. There were a lot of congratulations for the inauguration of the new Mystic Master, which briefly overpowered the celebrations here in Reborn.
It was at this point that the new Mystic Master sat up and walked towards Michael.
"Nice to meet you. My name is Lucy Highborn. And I am the new Mystic Master of the Guild of Arcana."
Lucy was a dashing and debonair young man. A complete contrast to the image of wizards and witches who were thought of as old hermits who didn’t go outside for decades at a time. Lucy looked like someone who was a priest that was very charismatic.
Michael walked over to Lucy and shook his hand.
Both of them were young. In fact, it looked like Michael and Lucy were the same age, which only exacerbated the talent that Lucy had to become a Mystic Master despite his youth.
"Nice to meet you. I’m Michael."
Lucy smiled and shook his hand firmly. Then he nodded. "We apologize for arriving late. Lots of things to do and prepare ever since I was crowned as Mystic Master, you understand."
Michael nodded. "No worries."
Seeing the genuine nonchalance in Michael’s response, Lucy nodded and walked back to the table to get congratulated by the others around them.
It might seem that Michael had a lot of negativity for Lucy, as he was the very reason why he lost his opportunity for entering the secret library. But in truth, Michael didn’t mind it all that much.
Lucy was just one of the many people in this room who were an obstacle to Reborn. Of course, people of this world had their own dreams, ideals, and personalities. Not everyone was going to agree with Reborn’s goals.
And it was inevitable that there were going to be roadblocks in their path to the top. It was only natural.
Michael looked around the room and saw a lot of people that he needed to focus on.
There were possible allies and possible enemies.
It was his job to make sure that despite all of that, despite all of the opposition standing against them, Reborn would still come out on top.
And that all started with this inauguration.
"Now that we’re all here, I would first like to thank you for accepting my invitation," Michael said to the group.
"You may not know me, but I am the founder and leader of the Reborn company. We started from the very bottom. At the bottom of the Royal Continent, in the Lower Kings region, which most of the people here think is simply a lesser place.
I only had myself and a few of my trusted allies as my employees back then. But thanks to luck and some skill, we were able to turn that fiddling little company into this behemoth that it is now.
We are a nation from the desolate area of the Parched Lands. But we have made our way forwards, to the rest of the Royal Continent until we have reached your path. And we don’t intend to stop."
