Chapter 1425: Start of race
Chapter 1425: Start of race
Immediately, Michael knew what Lucy and the other Mystic Masters were trying to do. They were trying to take advantage of this situation in order to accrue more followers!
It was a way to bring back the power of the Guild of Arcana. After all, ever since magic had disappeared from this world, the power and influence of the Guild had gone down considerably.
Before, they were the ones people depended on for everyday stuff. They deployed magicians and wizards to bring heat and warmth during the winter. They were the ones who cleaned a river whenever it became filled with too much filth.
Basically, they were a critical part of society. And they were compensated very well because of it.
But now, things have changed. The paradigms have shifted.
Now, wizards were nothing more than normal people. They were mortals. With magic gone, they no longer had the thing that made them special compared to other people. And that made their power and influence in society dwindle to near nothing.
Of course, Mystic Masters were still powerful. They had Arcanic magic that allowed them to still wield mana despite the loss of it in the world.
But even they could not be everywhere all at once.
That was probably why they made Lucy as a Mystic Master. He was the light in the darkness of the world.
He was the brightness that was going to make the dark age of this world disappear.
It was obvious now, especially with how Lucy had the specialty of ’Light’ mana.
And now, with Lucy seemingly being able to make people feel ’mana’ once again, they would be able to retake the power that they once had. They would be able to exert the same influence as before.
It was a hard time in the Guild of Arcana, after all. People usually thought that they were on equal grounds with the Order of the Heavenly Knights.
But now, they had fallen behind greatly.
Now, there were less and less people signing up to become a member of the Guild of Arcana. Why would they want to join this organization when they couldn’t use magic? It seemed useless.
And in comparison, if people joined the Order of the Heavenly Knights, they would still have the opportunity to make themselves stronger. The power of the Knights were unaffected by the loss of magic. They could still use their weapons regardless. And also, if one were to become proficient with it, they could eventually learn a swordstyle and Sword Intent.
By all accounts, joining the Order was the right choice for all.
And because of this, the Guild of Arcana was suffering. Michael could only guess that their funds were starting to get low, considering the loss of business that they had.
And even if magic were to return now, the damage would have already been done. People would be less inclined to join or even trust the Guild of Arcana. After all, if magic disappeared once, couldn’t it disappear again in the future?
This was a line of thinking that would destroy the Guild of Arcana once it spreads.
They couldn’t have that. They needed to prevent that.
And so, they used Lucy as a figurehead. He was going to be the savior of magic.
"BU TO TO! What should we do, Supreme Leader?" asked Narito from his side.
"We do nothing," he replied. "They haven’t done anything wrong."
"But what if they spread their ideology to the Elite Society, or worse, what if it spreads to the Nation of Reborn?"
Michael shrugged. "Then it spreads. As long as they do no crime while doing it, I am fine with it. People are free to believe whatever they want to believe."
He was a firm believer in this policy. It was why he let Fudge continue his little antics with the Iron Maiden religion.
"Anyway, we should focus on the race. Have you all made sure that everything is prepared properly?"
"RAH TA TA! Yes, Supreme Leader," answered Sasuki. "We have our Orcs positioned all along the circuit. If something untoward happens, we will be there to respond."
Michael nodded. He didn’t want anyone to get seriously hurt during this race, after all.
He knew how most companies here were using their Nascent Influence to boost their car’s performance. Because of that, things could get a little aggressive and cause accidents.
As the one who arranged this event, he didn’t want to be responsible for any injuries that may happen.
"How about Elizabeth? Is she ready?"
Both of the Shadow Orcs nodded. "Yes, Supreme Leader. She is raring to go."
Elizabeth was only a Body Formation cultivator. But of course, he also used his Nascent Influence to reinforce the car that she was in.
It wasn’t anything complicated. He just made sure that she wouldn’t get seriously hurt if she got hit by the other cars.
As for the car’s performance, it was all mechanical. Meaning, this race was all dependent on Elizabeth’s driving skills.
And he was confident that she could easily run laps around the other cars if she was allowed to race properly. So, that’s what he did.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Get to your seats because the race is about to start!" said the announcer. His voice echoed throughout the entire race track.
The numerous large screens pointed towards the audience now showed the live footage of the cars in the raceway.
20 cars were positioned in the track. Each one were more grand than the other.
Some had spikes along their frame, some spewed fire near their wheels.
The people of this world were familiar with Chariot Racing, which had a lot of chaos and bumping and aggression. So, that kind of racing style was transferred here as well.
Also, it made for a good show. The audience began to cheer as they watched the automobiles rev their engines.
"This is amazing! All races should be like this."
"I can see their cars up close! That... television... thing is a work of art. I want to have it!"
