Chapter 1435: Eye of Truth

In an instant, something within those ’Ersatz’ assassins changed. Their bodies began to convulse, with their eyes and mouth and ears suddenly spewing blood as if a vicious poison had overcome their body.

This was a characteristic that real ’Ersatz’ assassins had. They would activate the hidden poison Aubility Power in their bodies so that they wouldn’t be tortured for information.

But Michael could tell that it was something that Lucy and Worcester had planned from the very beginning.

Of course, these people were employed by them. If people found out the truth, then it would destroy all of the goodwill that Lucy had been trying to gather thai whole time.

"We wouldn’t be able to interrogate them, unfortunately," said Lucy. He even made a show as if he was trying to heal them, but failed in doing so.

It was at this point that Michael smiled. "Don’t worry. We have captured one of them and was able to stop them from activating their self-destructive capability."

A Shadow Orc appeared beside Michael, before they dumped a tied and bound body of an ’Ersatz’ assassin right in front of the whole crowd.

Of course, Michael made sure to have all the cameras pointed right at the perpetrator. Not only so that everyone in the Racing Track could see it, but also because it served as documentation for whatever was about to be revealed today.

The ’Ersatz’ assassin writhed on the ground, trying everything he could to try and activate the Aubility Power poison in his body. Unfortunately, he couldn’t. Even if he tried to bite his tongue, he still wouldn’t die until everyone found out the truth.

On the outside, Lucy seemed extremely pleased and surprised. "Wonderful! It seemed that I have underestimated the Reborn company. Well done! Now, we can see who is behind this terrorist attack."

But on the inside, Lucy was panicking. He looked askance towards the corner of his eyes, where Worcester was standing in the shadows

The 1st ranked heir of the Oscorpe Conglomerate bit his nails in anxiety. Nothing was going right with their plans. And now, it looked like they were about to be found out!

"What the hell, Worcester. I thought you had everything ready and planned. You promised me they wouldn’t get caught. And if they did, they would be immediately executed," Lucy said telepathically.

"... It’s a miscalculation. They shouldn’t have been able to do this. As far as I know, they only have that leader of theirs as their Nascent Spirit cultivator. But somehow, they were able to dispatch one of my generals without me even knowing about it.

I also never expected Reborn to have a powerful espionage army behind them. That Orc looked powerful."

"Too late now! What are you going to do about this? If this assassin talks..."

"...don’t worry. I’ll do something."

Lucy clicked his tongue. "You’re useless. I’l deal with this."

And then, Lucy smiled and walked towards the balcony as if nothing ever happened. Then, he looked down at Michael and gave him a bow.

"I must thank you, Sir Michael. I think it best if we handle the interrogation. With the Light that I hold, no evil-doer will ever find the courage to lie."

Michael smiled back at him. "Don’t worry. We will handle it."

Lucy tilted his head. "These Ersatz assassins are famed for their brainwashing and their loyalty to their organization. Their minds are broken. No normal interrogation will make them reveal anything about the Ersatz."

As if to demonstrate, Lucy conjured a white magic circle underneath the ’Ersatz’ assassin.

Then, under everyone’s watchful eyes, a large eye manifested from pure light.

And soon, other people began to gasp in awe at its appearance.

"That’s the famed Eye of Truth!"

"So he inherited it from the previous Mystic Master of Light!"

"Wonderful! Now, that assassin will not be able to hide anything!"

The Eye of Truth was a magic spell that was created by the previous Mystic Master of Light about five hundred years ago. And even now, that technique was still famous because of its usefulness in things like these.

And it seemed that Lucy had taken the technique for himself.

"With this Eye of Truth, I can ask three questions on this assassin and he will be forced to tell the truth!"

Not even a Mystic Master could lie under this magic spell.

"For my first question. Assassin, for what purpose did you terrorize this wonderful event?"

The assassin writhed on the ground, then under the bright gaze of the giant eye, his voice echoed out of his body even with his mouth closed.

"I... I was told to cause as much chaos as possible... destroy everything... disrupt the Reborn company!"

That was an easy question. It was something that seemed to verify the fact that he was an agent of chaos sent by the Ersatz. This was how they terrorized the world, after all.

But in truth, they were not sent here by the Ersatz at all. They were sent here by Worcester and Lucy, but for the exact same reasons as an Ersatz assassin, making it look like the two were one and the same.

Lucy had masterfully used this as a way to legitimize him as an ’Ersatz’ assassin, and not something else.

"My next question. Where is the Ersatz Stronghold that you belong to? And what sort of terrorist events have you planned in the future?"

It was at this point that the ’Ersatz’ assassin writhed on the ground, as if something was hurting inside him.

"I... I don’t know!" the assassin’s voice echoed out of his body.

Hearing this, the rest of the crowd nodded in understanding. Lucy was right. The Ersatz brainwashing and their warping of minds had come to a point where even their own assassins didn’t know where their own Stronghold was located!

As expected, the Ersatz was not that easy to locate.

"See?" Lucy asked Michael, triumphant.

But in truth, Michael knew the truth. They didn’t know, because they weren’t actually Ersatz assassins!
