Chapter 1436: Not qualified?
Chapter 1436: Not qualified?
It was all a very clever ruse by Lucy. Now everyone believed that the ’Ersatz’ assassin couldn’t be interrogated any further.
But it was truly fortunate that Michael wasn’t going to let Lucy fool the others so easily.
"I see," Michael said. "As you said, it seemed that this young assassin cannot be interrogated any further. But thankfully, we have another assassin that we have captured alongside the first one."
With a snap of his fingers, a new ’Ersatz’ assassin emerged and was thrown out by a large shadow crevice from the ground.
Once again, both Lucy and Worcester were at a loss for words once they saw this. They couldn’t believe that they were able to capture another one!
And Worcester’s eyes widened even more. After all, he recognized that assassin to be a Nascent Spirit cultivator! It was one of his generals, the very same one that he had instructed to leave the premises as soon as they had done their job.
He thought they escaped!
Once again, Lucy glared at Worcester, eyes spewing with hatred. Even with his best efforts to stay calm, the new Mystic Master was starting to get flustered.
"Ah... wonderful! Alright, then let us interrogate him again. Though, I fail to understand why. After all, I don’t think he would give us different answers than the one that we already have..."
Michael smiled. Lucy had fallen into his trap.
"I guess you’re right," he said. "Then if you wouldn’t mind, can I ask the questions?"
Immediately, Lucy’s face froze, realizing his mistake.
It was at this point that he had a sinking feeling that Michael already knew what he had been doing. It was very clear. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be pushing this so hard. He would let it go, like most of the others in the room.
Meaning, if he let Michael ask the questions, then it was very possible that the assassin would reveal the actual truth of the situation, implicating both Worcester and Lucy in this conspiracy.
This would not bode well for the Guild of Arcana, who was already struggling with their reputation ever since the loss of magic.
"Ahem... I am sorry, but I do not think it is possible," he said. "The Eye of Truth is a very fickle and demanding spell. First of all, it depends on the subject.
Since this assassin looks to be on the 1st stage of the Nascent Spirit realm, it would require a lot more Arcane magic from my body.
If you were to ask the question, you wouldn’t be able to control the Eye of Truth. I know that you are also a nascent Spirit cultivator yourself, but this is a matter of arcane magic and knowledge."
To Lucy’s credit, he was a very fast thinker. He was able to bring up a very reasonable explanation as to why Michael couldn’t ask the questions, even though it was absolutely bull crap.
According to the records, the Eye of Truth worked very simply. Anyone can aks a question, even if they were mortal themselves asking a Nascent Spirit cultivator.
But of course, if Michael tried to say this out loud, Lucy could easily say that this ’Eye of Truth’ spell was actually different from the one that was used hundreds of years ago. He could even say that it’s also because of the loss of magic.
So, Michael didn’t even bother telling him out on his lie.
Instead, he just smiled. Unfortunately for Lucy, he picked the wrong reasons to prevent him from asking the questions.
"If it’s just a matter of magic knowledge, then I think that I suffice."
Lucy frowned, almost scoffing. "I am sorry, but elementary knowledge about the eight elemental spells is not sufficient enough for the Eye of Truth."
"Then what is?" Michael asked.
"One must have a fundamental knowledge about the high mystic arts. For example, you must know at least one single 9-star spell and be able to explain how it works in full detail," Lucy replied.
The new Mystic Master had made a really high standard for the Eye of Truth. No simple person knew how a 9-star spell worked.
Heck, not even the scholars that had spent their years and decades locked up in the Guild of Arcana could confidently say that they knew every detail and formula in a 9-star spell.
Only Mystic Masters had the ability to do so.
’Hahaha, what excuse can you think of now? I know that you have a good relationship with Seberus Augindore. But that old man isn’t here right now. All the Mystic Masters present here in this racing track is on my side,’ Lucy thought to himself.
And it truly looked like it was a checkmate for Michael.
But unfortunately for Lucy, he had been completely underestimating the young leader of Reborn.
"Oh, a 9-star spell? I know that," Michael said.
And upon hearing this, Lucy couldn’t help but laugh out loud. But immediately, he coughed and tried to look composed and regal.
"You do not know a 9-star spell. You may know how it works, but you will not be able to explain the intricacies and small details that are imbued in this mystic art."
In fact, probably every single person in this racing track had the same thought. They didn’t know much about the mystic arts, but they knew that the knowledge that those spells had were not something that an ordinary person could memorize.
It would take a person decades of pure dedication and passion and devotion before they were able to truly understand a 9-star spell.
Michael stood tall, confident. "Then test me," he said, challenging them.
It was at this point that Lucy frowned. He couldn’t understand why Michael would be so confident.
"We are in the presence of five Mystic Masters," Michaeel said. "Under your watchful gazes, I am sure that if my knowledge about the Mystic Arts is insufficient, then you will be able to discern it. So, test me."
