Chapter 1478: Zander

Zander then began to list out different kinds of treasures that he was willing to give Michael. This ranged from simple piles of gold, to elite armors and weapons, to unique paintings, to rare materials and ingredients.

But in truth, Michael didn’t need these things at all. They were already quite wealthy from their businesses.

"This is nice and all, but ultimately, I cannot accept them," Michael said.

This made Zander pause. "Can I ask why?"

Michael took a deep breath. "In truth, Worcester’s attack almost made me lose a very important family member. And I am not sure that I can take these gifts as compensation for that.

Nothing will be able to make me forgive that."

Hearing this, Zander nodded inwardly. "I understand... then what will make you consider forgiveness from my Conglomerate?"

Michael took a few seconds to think. "To be honest, as long as you promise that your Conglomerate will not follow the path of Worcester and side with the Ersatz, then I am content with that."

It was at this point that Zander stood up and offered Michael his hand.

"Very well. I hereby promise you, as the leader, owner, and founder of the Oscorpe Conglomerate, that we will not succumb ourselves to the temptation of the Ersatz Organization.

Not only that, but I promise to you that we will not attack your company without any good reason.

If we break any of these promises to you, then you can take my life in exchange for this betrayal."

Michael’s eyes widened as a contract suddenly appeared in front of Zander.

Ethereal chains then began to wrap around Zander’s chest, before it plunged itself into his heart.

This was a contract binding that was a true life or death promise. Michael could tell that it was genuine because he could see the mana signatures from the contract itself. It was a promise to the world itself, something that could not be cheated or destroyed from any circumstances!

"You... you..."

This was such a decisive action that Michael was at a loss for words.

The first part, he understood. It was only natural for Zander to promise not to ally himself with the Ersatz Organization. But the second part was what made him completely shocked.

After all, by promising that they wouldn’t attack Reborn without any good reason, meant that they wouldn’t be able to issue any kind of war against them, or else Zander would die from the contract!

This meant that the Oscorpe Conglomerate could never challenge Reborn ever again!

Michael didn’t think that Zander would make such an outrageous promise.

"I hope that this is enough for us to regain your trust," said Zander.

And after hearing this, Michael couldn’t help but nod his head. With this contract, he was basically assured that the Oscorpe Conglomerate would never antagonize them ever again!

They were basically allies at that point.

"I mean... yeah."

"That’s good. That’s good," Zander said, heaving a sigh of relief. "I was afraid that I was going to leave here without earning your forgiveness."

"Are you sure about this?" Michael asked him. Even he wouldn’t make such a contract.

"Yes," Zander answered. "Please do not think that this is a naive decision on my part. It is fully a business decision as well.

I believe that your company will be able to reach the ranks of the Conglomerate in the future. With your products, I can see the whole world being revolutionized with these inventions.

And if were to continue to have this bad blood between us, we would not be able to partake in that business. And I believe that if that happens, then we will truly find ourselves lagging behind everyone.

It would basically be a death sentence to a Conglomerate. And so, making this kind of contract is only worth it if you think about it like I have.

You may not know this, but your products have already started to change the market in the Elite Society.

People have been clamoring to buy your products. Me and the other Conglomerates have already started to try and copy your items, but to no avail.

Allying ourselves with you is the only way that we can continue on forwards."

Zander’s words were right on point. And it was at this point that Michael realized how decisive one had to be in order to lead the number 2 conglomerate in the entire world.

His decision was ruthless. He was ruthless to himself in order to save his company.

It was basically the same as cutting off an arm in order to ensure that the poison wouldn’t spread all over their body.

Michael didn’t know a lot of people who would be able to do what Zander did. For someone so powerful, so influential, to offer their own lives for a contract was very impressive.

Most people, given the same circumstances and choices, definitely wouldn’t have been able to offer that contract. They would be too scared for their own lives.

But I guess that’s why he’s the leader of a Conglomerate....

In the end, it worked. Zander did end up repairing the relationship between the Oscorpe Conglomerate and the Reborn company.

Now, they were free to talk about business, just like Zander wanted.

This guy is on a completely different level!

Michael couldn’t help but be impressed.

"Thank you, Michael. I would like to talk about business, but let us save that for another time. For now, I am just glad that our bad blood has been washed from our hands," Zander said.

It was at this point that both of them shook hands once again.

Then, Zander was out the door and gone, just like that.

Michael sat back in his chair, still disbelieving of what had just happened.

Somehow, the Oscorpe company went from their most hated rival, to now friendly allies. They literally could not fight against Reborn.

Having one less Conglomerate to worry about was a load off of his mind.
