Chapter 1483: Chasm bridge
Chapter 1483: Chasm bridge
Michael assigned each and every single one of his officers a Territory for one reason only: defense.
Now that they had moved up in rankings, they were going to be fighting against much stronger opponents than before.
The Conglomerates and their heirs were not easy opponents, and it was very much possible that they would attack the Rebornian Territories one way or another. Michael was just trying to prevent another tragic event happening.
Also, he realized that this was the best practice they would get for the Nascent Influence.
Having to always have their Nascent Influence active and protecting a certain region from other Influences would increase their mastery over the technique. And they definitely needed that.
Over the next few days, his new officers settled into their routine. They went over to their Territories and practiced their Nascent Influence over it.
"Lord Michael," said Sheina. "The Chasm Bridge has already been built. We are just going to need your final blessing on it."
Michael was glad to learn that finally, the link from the Lower region of the Royal Continent to its Upper region was finally completed!
This was what they were truly waiting for when they had begun their expansion to the Elite Society. It was the finally missing piece that would allow them to truly get their feet on the ground,
"Alright," he said. "I’ll go over there."
He teleported straight to the Chasm. He arrived in the skies, looking down at the giant chasm left behind by the tragedy in New Sparta.
But now, a giant bridge spanned its darkness. It was red in color, very bright and noticeable from far away. Michael planned it so that this place would become a landmark that people will remember for a long time.
Of course, for now, Michael would be the one ensuring that this place was protected. He knew that it would be hotly contentious, and his new officers simply didn’t have that much power yet to protect it.
He slowly lowered himself down, where there was a large crowd of Rebornians waiting behind the large ribbon.
Sheina was down there, with a big scissors in her hand.
"You have the honors, Lord Michael."
He took the scissors and cut the ribbons, finally signifying the opening of the Chasm Bridge.
It was a big moment, which the Rebornians rightfully celebrated. As for the other Upper Echelon companies and Conglomerates, they sent down their congratulations. There were even some representatives who came on behalf of them.
However, none of the Conglomerate heirs or leaders appeared themselves.
It made sense. They were probably too intimidated by Michael.
After all, he had defeated Worcester, the 1st ranked heir of the Oscorpe Conglomerate. Who’s to say that he wouldn’t defeat the other Conglomerate heirs?
And if they were to officially appear in the opening of the Chasm Bridge, they would simply be empowering this Reborn event further, which was not good for them.
The mind games are starting, Michael thought to himself. The heirs are going to be fighting me on different levels...
That attack from last night was probably one of those. Michael had a feeling that one of the Conglomerate heirs had a hand in making sure that those bandits succeeded.
Now officially, those bandits and thieves were independent. They were marauders that worked by themselves, and for themselves.
Even when Michael had the Shadow Orcs interrogate them, they only told Michael that they were completely by themselves without any allies.
But if one were to think about it deeply, it would not start to make sense.
After all, how did these bandits and thieves get the resources to get a Nascent Spirit cultivator? How were they allowed to operate in the Elite Society with so much freedom?
With the power and influence that these Conglomerates had, it would be a simple thing to dispatch an army to get rid of these bandits. It would get rid of this pest, and ensure that their businesses wouldn’t get disrupted in the future.
But they didn’t. Michael could see through them.
They might not have allied themselves with the bandits, but the Conglomerates were probably complicit in their actions.
They let them operate as they did, simply because they thought that they would be useful.
Of course, the bandits thought that they were being independent. But in truth, they were actually being sponsored by the Conglomerates to attack Reborn.
This was the kind of thing that the Conglomerates used as tactics. They played on an entirely different level compared to the opponents Michael played against.
Why would they send bandits to Reborn?
It was a simple test. They probably wanted to gauge the Reborn company’s abilities after what happened with Worcester’s war.
After all, the Shadow Orcs did a great job in making sure that no news broke out of their Territory. From an outsider’s perspective, nothing happened in the Rebornian territories.
They didn’t know if Reborn won or not.
And they couldn’t simply just brute force their way inside. They had to get creative. They used the bandits to test if Reborn truly as fine as they were presenting to be.
Of course, Reborn ’passed’ their little test with flying colors. The bandits were all apprehended.
They’ll probably try that again with the Chasm Bridge at some point...
Thankfully, he now had soldiers and generals to rely on. If they tried, they’d soon find themselves on the wrong side of history.
"Congratulations, Lord Michael. You have successfully built the biggest connection in all the lands!"
"Truly a magnificent achievement!"
On the side, Gourdon and Wadeby approached him with joyous looks on their faces.
As allies of Reborn, of course they were going to show up. And now, Michael was going to reward them for doing so.
"Thank you, thank you," he said to them. "How has business been?"
Gourdon and Wadeby were both leaders of an Upper Echelon company. They were in the top 20 of the rankings, which was good, but definitely not anywhere near the top.
"It’s been slow," said Gourdon. "Hahaha, we’re still dealing with the aftermath of New Sparta."
"Though, it has been that way for everybody. Everybody except you, of course," said Wadeby.
Michael smiled. "Well, not anymore. As my allies, you both have unmitigated access to the Chasm Bridge."
Both Upper Echelon leaders looked at each other with surprise. They knew how important this was. This bridge was the very reason why almost every single Conglomerate and Upper Echelon tried to fight for control over the Chasm!
"Try it out and tell me your experience later," said Michael.
...
...
...
With the opening of the bridge, operations within Reborn and its allies kicked up in high gear.
The first trucks and automobiles went through the Chasm Bridge, breaking ground on this new connection.
Gourdon and Wadeby were both amongst the pioneers. They rode on the trucks of their respective companies as it travelled from the Upper region to the Lower region of the Royal Continent.
"Amazing... we’re already here?"
"This is truly a work of art. I was a bit nervous that the bridge wouldn’t be able to take such a heavy load!"
Usually, traversing the Chasm required a lot of time. They would need a day to circumnavigate through the edges and lips of the chasm to reach the other side.
And that was with the automobiles. It would have taken days with the old school horse-drawn carriages.
But now, travelling through the bridge had completely lessened that to only a few minutes of travel!
Gourdon and Wadeby were both astonished at this fact. As leaders of Upper Echelon companies, they knew just how important this was to business.
And the effect was noticeable.
Within a few days, more and more products travelled from the Lower region to the Upper region of the Royal Continent.
For example, there was a certain fish delicacy from the southern regions of the Royal Continent that the Elite Society loved to consume.
However, they were too far away, and the long travel would cause the fish to rot. And with magic gone, they couldn’t prevent it from deteriorating, especially with the added travel from the going around the Chasm.
But now, the Zentmeister company began to supply the Elite Society with loads and loads of this fish delicacy.
Gourdon was able to take advantage of the bridge and carve himself a niche in the market. And because of this, his company was allowed to go up one rank higher in the Golden Rankings.
His other opponents were completely caught off guard by this boost.
"How did Gourdon improve so fast?!"
"It’s his volume. He’s able to produce so many products so fast!"
"How?!"
Then, they soon learned of the Chasm Bridge of Reborn. But that still didn’t make sense. Could a bridge really have that big of an effect?
And as they made their investigations, they saw something peculiar.
A town, built right next to the bridge. It was a hub of activity, both from businesses and mortals alike!
