Chapter 218: Octopus Slayer [II]
Chapter 218: Octopus Slayer [II]
... But it wasn’t their blood.
The red haze floating through the air did not come from the Awakeners themselves; it sprayed from the severed tentacles that Lucius had cut through a second earlier.
His hand cut a smooth arc through the sky, space distorting around his fingers as another cluster of tentacles ruptured mid-air, scattering chunks that splashed violently into the blood sea below.
The air cracked as he spun, drifting through the battleground like someone taking a casual stroll rather than fighting an abomination the size of a building.
"Fight!" someone shouted, and the entire raid exploded into motion.
Vanessa inhaled slowly as a tentacle whipped toward her.
It was large enough to crush a building, covered in strange suction marks that pulsed with bioluminescence, and yet the moment it touched her, the barrier of space Lucius had placed around her flickered and sent it skidding backward.
She didn’t waste the moment.
She clasped her palms together and began drawing every trace of blood she could sense... blood splashed from the broken tentacles, blood from the sea below, and even the particles of blood drifting through the air.
All of it streamed toward her hands in thin red rivers until her palms glowed like molten rubies.
When she opened one hand, only the left remained red, pulsing like a beating heart.
"Blood Bomb," she whispered, and her voice cracked the air.
Her left palm expanded outward into a wave of explosive technique.
Dozens of blood detonations erupted across the sky, tearing tentacles apart and sending shockwaves rolling across the battlefield.
Pieces of flesh rained down, sinking into the sea or slapping against the surface with heavy splashes.
Some Awakeners were blown back by the force, struggling to regain balance, but the monster’s assault didn’t slow.
New tentacles burst forth immediately, like they were regenerating faster than they were dying.
Vanessa grit her teeth. She knew exactly what this meant. The monster’s true body hadn’t even moved yet.

On the opposite side of the sea, Supreme Man shot downward like a meteor.
He slammed his fist into a rising tentacle, blowing a hole through it, only to be whipped sideways by another that struck him across the torso.
He bounced off another tentacle, flipped mid-air, then landed on a third one which he used as a springboard to launch himself back around.

Above them, the Saintess floated with her hands clasped in front of her chest.
She exhaled slowly as she surveyed the chaos. She couldn’t use Jacob’s Ladder or any of her wide-range holy spells... not without risking the whole raid.
Lucius’s barriers could tank it, of course but she didn’t want to make any kind of assumptions.
But she wasn’t helpless either.
"Then I’ll keep the pressure off," she murmured, lifting one hand toward an oncoming cluster of tentacles.
A spear of holy light shot from her fingertips, burning straight through three tentacles and leaving clean, smoking holes in the mass of writhing limbs.
[ @HolySimp: THAT’S OUR SAINTESS 😭🔥 ]

Further out, Luna hovered in her suit.
The repulsers hummed at her feet and palms, stabilizing her against the shockwaves.
Her scanners had already traced the location of the main body.
It lurked deep on the side of the staircase, wrapped around the entire structure as if guarding a treasure. She pointed both palms downward, gathering mana until her entire suit glowed gold.
’100% force,’ she thought as her heart pounded.
She fired.
A massive golden repulser beam tore into the blood sea, ripping the water open as it drove toward the monster’s body.
The hit landed cleanly, striking the side of its enormous eye. A screech vibrated up through the water, strong enough to shake the entire ocean surface. Luna zoomed in with her visor and froze.
A singular eye stared back at her.
It was wide and hypnotic.
It blinked, and every tentacle in the sea surged upward in her direction.
She couldn’t move. The fear gripped her completely, rooting her in place as if someone had tied weights to her limbs.
But before the tentacles reached her, the sea parted with a deafening boom.
The octopus surged upward.
Its colossal head tore out of the water, followed by a forest of tentacles writhing and twisting, each as thick as a castle tower.
Blood rained off its skin in sheets.
Its body stretched higher and higher into the sky, blocking out the dim red light and casting a shadow over the entire raid party.
It was grotesque and then Lucius laughed.
He exploded upward from the sea, space twisting behind him like a halo as he shot straight toward the monster with an expression of pure amusement.
"Come on now!" he shouted out. "You mustn’t stop trying!"
The Octopus that was mid-air was enormous... large enough to cast a blotched shadow across the entire surface of the blood sea but Lucius didn’t spare its size a second of attention.
What he cared about was simple, almost embarrassingly so: reclaiming the title he had lost.
Since he had not gotten the title of Dragon Slayer, he would simply get Octopus Slayer...
A tentacle lashed toward him from the side, thick enough to crush a small house, but Lucius carved through it with a blade of space that glowed like a distorted crescent.
The severed limb exploded outwards in misty blood, raining droplets that evaporated before touching him.
"Is the only thing you can do to toss your tentacles around?" he asked, not even pretending to take the monster seriously. "How are you even an A-rank monster?"
If the Octopus had teeth, it would have ground them to dust.
Instead it released a violent gush of black ink that expanded outward like a cloud of darkness trying to swallow the sky.
The ink rolled through the air and water until the entire world turned pitch-black.
The monster relaxed for a brief moment, assuming its natural environment would hinder Lucius long enough for a counterattack.
But that was the exact mistake it made, because Lucius moved through the ink without losing even a fraction of awareness.
He sensed everything inside and outside the cloud, as if space itself whispered the monster’s location into his ear because it did...
He appeared in front of the Octopus’s massive eye and smiled.
"Your eyes... they can’t even see through your own ink."
He drew his leg back, surrounding his kick with spiraling layers of space, and slammed it forward.
The force detonated outward and the Octopus’s eye shattered inward, sending the entire creature hurtling backward.
It smashed against the distant water surface, creating a geyser that erupted into the air before slamming back down in a cascade.
A shockwave erupted on impact, clearing the entire ink cloud in an instant.
[ @OceanMommy: Lucius is so tuff omg 😭🔥 ]
[ @BreedableDragon: He should just impregnate me idc ]
|__ [ @OctoWidow: No fr he can have my kids too ]
|__ [ @HybridEnjoyer: Bro same... 3 kids minimum ]

Rita saw the monster was pushed far enough away to expose a clear line of sight.
She lifted her hand and holy mana surged upward, gathering into the beginnings of Jacob’s Ladder.
But before the spell could even form, Lucius raised a hand to stop her, not even bothering to look back.
"This is my kill," he said. "Don’t steal it."
Tentacles wrapped with mana burst out of the water, crackling with energy as they launched toward him like living whips.
Lucius slapped one aside with his bare hand, the force sending it recoiling backward like it had been smacked by a divine power.
Unfortunately, the redirected tentacle swung straight into Supreme Man, striking him across the torso and launching him like a frisbee across the sky.
"...Damn," Lucius muttered.
[ @SupremeManDown: 💀💀 HE GOT SMACKED ]
[ @ILoveViolence: Bro got folded again omg ]
[ @FailedHero: Someone PLEASE sub this man out ]
[ @SupremeCopium: I can’t defend him nomo 😔 ]
[ @NoMercyMike: This is the funniest beatdown ever ]
More tentacles burst from the sea, rising one after another, but Lucius shot downward instead of staying in the air.
He dove through the surface, ignoring the violent suction the monster attempted to create, and reached the depths where the Octopus’s remaining eyes glowed a deep crimson.
Something inside the monster was pulsing, it was not like blood but more like mana compressing into a singular point of power.
Lucius tilted his head slightly.
’You’re charging that much mana? For what?’
A thick beam of energy suddenly snapped out of the Octopus’s eye and shot upward. It sliced through the water, soared into the sky, and parted the clouds like a spear being thrown into heaven.
Lucius’s eyes widened.
’You can use lasers...?’
His surprise lasted less than a breath before it turned into a grin.
He tilted his body and launched closer, ignoring the heat of the mana light still radiating through the water.
Lucius raised his hand to his mouth so his voice would reach the monster through space.
"Great," he said while smiling wide. "Shoot me."
