Chapter 287: Underwhelming Assassins

The bell rang loudly and several students immediately cheered out loud in the class with excitement… it was lunch time!

Freya closed her textbook with a sigh of relief, after Math class, they had done several other subjects like Science and Language Arts and they were all too easy for her… the Academical parts of school life was pretty easy, what she wasn't exactly the most comfortable with was the social part of being in school with so many new people.

However Shiori kept her textbook open and her lips trembled nervously as she looked at her work.

"F-freya…"

"Yes?" Freya looked at her friend with curiosity and her lips quirked a bit, she was so cute when she was shy… Freya felt like pinching her soft cheeks.

"C-can we… have lunch together…? I go-got sma-ll money saved up." She looked at Freya in the eyes, there were a bit teary and Freya wondered why Shiori looked as if she wanted to cry over something so simple. "S-so I'll pay for lunch as a thank you for helping me out during class with the answers."

Freya leaned forward and gave Shiori a gentle pat on the head, it was like petting a cute cat.

"We're best friends… you don't need to spend your money to thank me Shiori." She said as she removed her hand from the girl's head and brought out her hand. "Now let's go to the Cafeteria together."

"To… gether?" Shiori slowly took her hand and she dragged the shy girl up from her seat, tightening her hand around hers protectively.

"Shy people like you get bullied all the time right? You don't need to worry about that anymore, I'll protect you now." She said while dragging Shiori out of the classroom confidently.

Darren looked at them from his table and then he gripped his balls gingerly, they were okay thankfully but he still hadn't forgiven Freya for kicking him.

'I know what I'll do…' Darren thought while he began laughing evilly to himself. 'Yes, I have a perfect plan to get revenge on her…'

In the middle of that evil laugh, Darren was hit on the head with a textbook by Bethany.

"You shouldn't laugh like this in class, young man. To the Cafeteria with you now." She said sternly and Darren grumbled before walking off while rubbing his head.

Bethany looked around carefully, the class would be empty for the next thirty minutes as the children were going to dine and she took a deep breath, opening her phone and looking at a picture of Lucius available online with his abs showing perfectly.

She pressed her face against the screen affectionately.

"Don't worry my Dear Lucius, I'll meet you soon~" She muttered under her breath lovingly, however Freya who was leaned against the door in a way that Bethany could not see her at all, with Shiori's hand still in hers frowned a bit.

'I knew it… I'll make sure Papa doesn't come to any school events.' She thought while walking off quickly, still dragging Shiori with her.

The Cafeteria was a big place with several seats and tables, she had read in the guide that the Starlight Middle School Cafeteria had more than enough chairs for people to sit down at least four in a seat… though she wanted to sit down with only Shiori today.

The food was not free either which was why parents had to give their children money before coming to school, or either pay for their lunch in advance through the school system.

"Uhh… where's the VIP line?" Freya asked while looking around and Shiori trembled, only people whose parents had paid ahead of time could go there.

She usually went with the normal line with everyone else. "Seen it."

The Cafeteria like all other cafeterias had a long desk and each part a receptionist mounted had different assortments of dishes on their tables where the students of both the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade gathered in long lines.

However the VIP section was a longer desk dedicated to the rich and even had a platinum color, you could only see a receptionist there as the food was brought from the kitchen room below.

Freya pulled Shiori into the line of the VIP section, except there was no line so they got brought to the front straight-up and stared at the eyes of a woman receptionist who looked at them from behind the table professionally.

"ID?" She asked while giving her a once-over, there were a lot of kids that faked being VIPs everyday… thinking of that, there were actually few VIPS in the school, not more than twelve or so students.

Freya handed her the student ID confidently and the receptionist's face turned blank with shock.

'Freya… von… Hohenberg?' She thought as she handed back the ID and immediately bowed respectfully.

"My Lady, I am at your complete service. Please, you can go take a seat and I'll bring the menu for you…" She asked professionally.

She couldn't believe she had just spoken like that to Lucius von Hohenberg's daughter… like that…

"I wanted to ask, can my best friend eat with me?" She asked while raising Shiori's hand. "I already promised her she could."

"Sure she can." The woman replied with some nods. "Just please go ahead and sit down, I'll bring the menus to your table shortly."

Freya nodded in thanks and dragged Shiori away, people were looking at the two of them with varying expressions and Freya had her leg prepared, she would kick any boy that tried to approach her in the balls without hesitation.

"Free seats…" She said as she reached a free table, it had four free seats and Shiori sat on one while she did as well opposite her.

There was a television in the top right corner and they both looked at it, like the other children in the cafeteria.

"And here we are, Live at the Opening of the National Awakened Research Institute right here in Northcrest city where Lucius von Hohenberg, the most popular awakened on the planet, defended the president from an assassination attempt just moments ago." The news reporter said excitedly while the scene showed on the large screen, the bullet was in slow motion and just as it was about to hit the President's head… Lucius brought out his palm casually.

The mana-enhanced bullet drilled against his palm before losing speed uselessly and being shot back to God knows where with incredible force… the cameras hadn't caught that part clearly or the sniper's death, the Cafeteria was immediately alight with cheers and Freya understood one thing clearly, all of them, both boys and girls were fanboys and fangirls for her Papa.

"LUCIUS VON HOHENBERG IS SO COOL!" One boy shouted.

"He's so handsome too!" A girl squealed.

"I want to be just like him when I awaken!" Another student yelled.

Her expression turned a bit horrified at the realization that everyone in this school loved her Papa…

'I hope Papa doesn't like young people.' She thought with genuine concern however she looked at Shiori who sat opposite her stuttering as usual with amazement in her eyes.

"Your Papa is cool… isn't he?" Shiori asked shyly and Freya remembered not too long ago when he had not only found a way to work through her phasing affinity, and not only saved her from that terrible situation but also paid for all the damages she had caused to the set, completely ripped off the man who had made her like this and introduced her to her new family of everyone that loved her unconditionally.

"Yes… papa is the best person in the world." She replied with a genuine smile on her cute face.

"W-well, I didn't know my papa too much. My mama said he died when I was still a baby in a dungeon break." Shiori said sadly and Freya's face turned a bit somber.

"Don't worry Shiori, my papa can still be your papa too if you want." She said kindly and Shiori bit her cheek emotionally, the woman from the VIP section popped up beside the table with a professional smile on her face carrying a tray.

"Here you go my ladies, the lunch menus for our VIP section." She said and dropped two elegant menus on the table carefully. Freya took one up while Shiori took one up as well… only to get shocked by the outrageous prices listed.

"F-freya… it's too costly for me." Shiori was about to tear up… 50,000 royals for some cake and ice-cream? Was the school attempting to rip them off completely?

"Just order what you want Shiori." Freya said casually without concern. "I'll have the cake and ice-cream please…"

Then she looked at her best friend's stupefied pale face with worry. "She'll have the same thing."

The woman took the menus with a smile. "Coming right up, my ladies."

Shiori paled even further as the woman walked away gracefully.

'This money for eating… If I… had it… then I could use it for mom's treatment at the hospital… then Big brother wouldn't have to risk his life on a daily basis in dangerous dungeons to pay for her medicine…' Shiori thought and swallowed hard, it was a kind gesture from her best friend so she couldn't say no to it or reject Freya's kindness.

The cafeteria around them buzzed with excitement as students continued watching the news coverage of Lucius's heroic act. Freya could hear whispers about her Papa from multiple tables.

"Did you see how fast he caught that bullet?"

"He didn't even look worried!"

"That's the power I want to achieve!"

However, an unexpected person popped up at their table without warning… It was Darren and he came to their table without their permission, sitting down next to Freya boldly despite getting kicked earlier.

He reached a hand to Freya's shoulder again and she jammed her leg into his nuts hard, making him squeal out in pain again loudly.

Several nearby students gasped and some laughed at him.

The boy crumpled to the ground, breathing for his dear life but he stood up once more with a painful grin on his face despite the obvious agony.

"Haha… I want to challenge you to a competition!" He said while slamming a hand on the table hard. "Let's have a bet… who gets picked up more elegantly by their guardian wins. Whenever my sister-in-law comes to pick me up from school, she comes like a queen with style and grace… let's compare that to your own guardian's arrival. Whoever loses will have to drop out of school completely and never return."

He had this challenge in the bag… and he was absolutely sure of it, Freya on the other hand didn't look surprised at all by the proposal.

"And why should I agree to such a stupid deal? My mama and Papa sent me to school to learn things and make friends." She said calmly and Darren grinned confidently.

"Because you'll be a disgrace to your family name if you don't accept a challenge…" Darren said and she grew stiff at those words so she smiled at him sweetly.

"Sure, I'll take on your challenge without any fear." She said calmly. 'I hope Mama Selene comes to school stylishly… I don't want to leave this place or disappoint Papa.'

Darren walked away triumphantly.

Shiori looked worried. "F-freya… are you s-sure?"

"Don't worry. My Mamas are amazing." Freya said confidently.

Cassie took a deep breath, the National Awakened Research Institute tour was finally a go… all the first to fourth floors were filled with visitors and tourists, the first floor had monuments like statues of the Old age awakened and there were a lot of people taking pictures down there excitedly with their phones.

However the main tour was going on here on the second floor and in the upper floors. She was on guard duty, this was where the President's wife was as well touring the exhibits.

For whatever reason, the President's family had decided to split up… the wife had come to the second floor, the daughter had gone to the fourth floor while the President remained with Lucius on the ground floor for safety.

'Master already took care of his own assassin easily without breaking a sweat… I need to do the same with mine and prove myself.' She thought, they needed minimal damages to the building and exhibits.

The Scientist leading the tour had stopped by something engraved in the wall carefully, it was a black spherical core glowing faintly.

"This, Ladies and Gentlemen is a Dungeon core… it's one of our new discoveries after the successful clearing of a World Dungeon. If you reach a Hidden room on the 100th floor before the World Dungeon fades away completely, you can extract the core and it has enough power to super-charge a whole city for years though this is a very new discovery." The Scientist explained enthusiastically and some people took photos of it with their phones.

Someone in the crowd gave a signal with the middle finger discreetly to another person and immediately the wall where Cassie was leaning on turned into shadow, swallowing the Supreme Guild captain whole into darkness and then the Assassin sped forth out of the crowd rapidly to the President's wife who was surrounded by two awakened bodyguards and were at a further stand looking at a different item on display.

He held his sickle tightly and just as he was about to throw it with deadly precision at the President's wife, Cassie appeared behind him out of nowhere and punched his head down to the ground making him lose consciousness immediately and bounce back up into her waiting hand without causing so much as a scratch on the polished ground beneath them.

The President's wife looked at her as well as the other bodyguards in shock.

"Thank you for saving my life." The President's wife said with a deep grateful bow and Cassie shook her head modestly, she would have waved her other hand but she was currently holding the second assassin… the one that used shadows to try and trap her, around her back tied up with water bindings.

"You're very welcome, Madam President…" She said respectfully and with that, she walked to the elevator calmly and put the destination for the Fifth floor while placing her hand on the biometric scanner that came out of the control panel securely.

The assassins had been smart and well-trained but Lucius already sensed them beforehand and told the girls their locations beforehand, it was easy work from there for them.

The elevator stopped at the restricted fifth floor which was restricted from the visitors or anyone that was unauthorized to enter.

The door opened smoothly to reveal a room where scientists sat behind their computers and typed away furiously, working on various highly secret projects.

Not like she gave a fuck about any of that classified research.

"These assassins were really underwhelming…" Nadia was the one that spoke first with disappointment and Cassie joined up with her fellow captains, there were three assassins there tied up and knocked out cold already and she just dumped these new bodies onto the pile while putting her hands on her waist.

"Tell me about it…" Ayela muttered under her breath with clear disappointment. "But then again, it must be because we're too strong for them."

One assassin had managed to take a scientist hostage and reach the fifth floor only to get sucker punched by Ayela when he wasn't looking… wasn't a trained A-rank assassin supposed to be able to read an attack coming at them from point blank range?

Nadia didn't even get to fight hers properly or show off, the assassin had been knocked out by Iris before she could engage in combat and as for Iris, after cornering her own target in a dead end… the assassin had somehow succeeded in knocking herself out during the chase.

The whole thing was pretty underwhelming and anticlimactic but at least they had secured the bag for the mission successfully.

"After this whole thing… let's just go out to eat with Boss and celebrate our success." Ayela suggested and the other girls nodded in agreement, that would be much better than looking at these disgraceful assassins who couldn't even put up a proper fight.

Cassie smiled slightly. Despite everything… being Supreme Man's sister, losing to Lucius, becoming his "slave" and even before that where these women disliked her mostly because it was like she had just been instated into this position because she was Supreme Man's sister.

'Not a bad day's work at all,' Cassie thought with genuine satisfaction.

And best of all, Master Lucius would surely be very pleased with her excellent performance today which was all that truly mattered to her now.
