Chapter 2660: Call Her Family

Chapter 2660: Chapter 2660: Call Her Family

"It’s perfectly fine. We can just try to call it and see. If it does not work, we will arrange temporary accommodation for you until we find your family." The female police officer stated in a reassuring tone.

"Yes, let’s try it." Chang Shuchun agreed, nodding slowly.

The female officer allowed Chang Shuchun to use the station’s landline. With a shaking hand, Chang Shuchun carefully pressed the digits one by one. After a moment of silence, the line began to ring. That meant the number was indeed still in service. A few seconds later, someone on the other end picked up.

"Hello..." A deep, resonant male voice echoed through the receiver.

"Senior Brother Weizhe..." Chang Shuchun called out, her voice barely a whisper.

"You... Shuchun? Is that really you?" Lou Weizhe, the man on the other end, asked in a state of absolute shock.

"Yes. It is me." Chang Shuchun admitted softly, tears welling in her eyes.

"You! Where on earth did you go? It has been three years without a single call, a message, or any news!" Lou Weizhe shouted, his voice a mix of intense anger and overwhelming relief.

"I... I..." Chang Shuchun opened her mouth, but she could not utter a single word to explain the situation she had endured.

The female police officer, seeing Chang Shuchun’s deteriorating emotional state, felt it would be better if she intervened. She signalled for Chang Shuchun to hand her the phone. Chang Shuchun obediently passed it over.

"Hello, sir. I am Officer Huang Ning from the Shiwa Town Police Station." Officer Huang Ning introduced herself clearly.

"The police station?" Lou Weizhe sounded startled, his tone shifting from anger to confusion at the sound of a stranger’s voice.

"Yes. Regarding Miss Chang, we have officially concluded that she was kidnapped three years ago and has only recently managed to escape from the clutches of her captor." Officer Huang Ning explained solemnly, her voice carrying the weight of the grim situation.

"Kidnapped?" Lou Weizhe gasped, the word hanging heavily in the air as a profound sense of shock settled over him.

"Yes. Miss Chang arrived at the police station today, stating that she had been held against her will and had only just awakened after three long years. We proceeded immediately to the location where Miss Chang regained consciousness and conducted a thorough investigation. Based on the evidence we recovered at the scene, we can firmly conclude that someone had indeed kidnapped Miss Chang and held her there." Officer Huang Ning replied to Lou Weizhe, maintaining her professional composure.

"Who kidnapped her? Do you have a suspect?" Lou Weizhe asked immediately, his voice sharp with a mix of protective anger and desperation.

"Well, we still need to investigate the matter much further before we can make any formal accusations, so we cannot mention any specific names at this point in time. We apologise for the lack of information for now." Officer Huang Ning stated, offering a sincere apology on behalf of the police department.

"It’s fine. I understand the legalities." Lou Weizhe responded, though his frustration was evident even through the receiver.

"We are calling you right now primarily to ask whether you are available to come and fetch Miss Chang at this moment." Officer Huang Ning explained, clarifying her reason for contacting him.

"I am currently quite a distance away in Guanying City. Can you please take care of her for tonight? We will set out and arrive there tomorrow as early as possible." Lou Weizhe said, his voice brimming with urgency.

"I see. Very well, we understand the distance. We will arrange safe accommodation for Miss Chang tonight so she can rest." Officer Huang Ning stated, noting down the arrangement.

"Can you give the phone back to her? I want to speak with her for a moment." Lou Weizhe requested softly.

"Yes. I will pass the phone to her now." Officer Huang Ning replied before handing the phone back to the trembling Chang Shuchun.

Chang Shuchun took the phone with both hands and spoke into it softly, her voice wavering. "Senior Brother..."

"Shuchun, listen to me. We will come to see you tomorrow without fail. Please, just try to rest and take care of yourself until then." Lou Weizhe said, his tone turning gentle and comforting.

"I understand. I will be waiting for you." Chang Shuchun replied, a small tear of relief finally escaping her eye.

They ended the call there, the line clicking shut on a future that finally seemed certain.

Thus, Chang Shuchun stayed overnight at the secure location Officer Huang Ning had carefully arranged for her. Officer Huang Ning also thoughtfully prepared a fresh set of clothes for her to change into, as she would need them for the next morning. Chang Shuchun thanked Officer Huang Ning many times, bowing her head to express her deepest and most sincere gratitude for the kindness she had been shown. Officer Huang Ning just nodded and told Chang Shuchun to get some rest.

...

Meanwhile, Yu Qi remained entirely unaware of the dramatic events unfolding at the police station. She focused on the road as she drove her car back toward the Harmony Orphanage. Grandpa Mu was still there, patiently waiting for her return. She had originally thought the business regarding the greenhouse would only take a short time to handle, and she never expected that she would encounter such a significant problem on her way back.

When she arrived at the orphanage and pulled into the driveway, she could see that Grandpa Mu was playing happily with the children in the yard. The sight warmed her heart.

It seemed that Grandpa Mu truly liked children very much, and the feeling was clearly mutual.
