Chapter 2662: Accuse The Doctor
Chapter 2662: Chapter 2662: Accuse The Doctor
Then, an even more horrifying and visceral thought surfaced in the dark recesses of her mind, chilling her to the bone. What if that foul, ethereal creature had not truly died or returned to the abyssal void from which it had been summoned? What if it had already successfully slithered its way into her daughter’s unsuspecting body just before the interruption occurred? The more she dwelt on that terrifying, skin-crawling possibility, the more the cold goosebumps spread across her shivering skin, leaving her trembling in the sterile hallway.
After three agonising, soul-crushing hours of silence, the heavy door finally creaked open, and the doctor emerged from the room. Sang Yuling immediately scrambled to her feet, her joints stiff from tension, and rushed toward him with frantic, stumbling movements.
"Doctor, what is happening with my daughter? Can she be woken up? Why is she still trapped in this state? Answer me!" Sang Yuling fired off a relentless, breathless stream of panicked questions the moment she reached his side, her hands clutching at the air between them.
"Ma’am, please, take a deep breath and try to remain calm. We still have not pinpointed the exact underlying reason why your daughter has fallen into this profound, deep coma. It is a complex situation, and we need to run an extensive battery of specialised tests before we can give you a definitive answer." The doctor stated, his voice flat and his expression weary from the long hours of monitoring.
"What? Then what exactly were you doing to my daughter in there all this time? Don’t tell me..." Sang Yuling’s panic curdled into a sharp, irrational venom. Her eyes narrowed. "Did you assault my daughter while she was lying unconscious and defenceless in that room? Is that why you were in there so long?" She shouted, her voice rising to a shrill, hysterical, and accusatory pitch that cut through the quiet of the ward.
Her loud, piercing voice acted like a siren, causing every patient, visitor, and staff member in the vicinity to stop in their tracks and stare at the escalating commotion. The doctor’s face darkened instantly, a deep, thunderous frown etching itself onto his brow as he heard the slanderous accusation. Such a reckless, public statement could easily dismantle a lifetime of professional reputation in a single afternoon. However, before he could even gather his thoughts to respond to the insult, the nurses standing nearby, who had been his exhausted assistants inside the room, quickly spoke up in his defence, their faces flushed with indignation.
"Ma’am, please! Do not dare to accuse our doctor of something so heinous and disgusting! We were in the room with him every single second of the procedure." One nurse argued, her voice trembling with anger.
"Exactly... our doctor is a man of integrity who would never dream of doing something like that. He has been working tirelessly to stabilise her." Another nurse added, stepping forward to shield the doctor.
"Humph! For all I know, you two might just be his accomplices, covering up his tracks!" Sang Yuling snapped back, her eyes burning with a desperate, irrational suspicion that bordered on the delusional.
The nurses were so incensed by the insult to their characters that they opened their mouths to scold Sang Yuling back, but the doctor raised a steadying hand. He signalled them to remain silent, refusing to engage in a shouting match. His face was a mask of cold displeasure, but he forced himself to maintain his professional distance. He knew that the hallway was now a stage, and he could see people already pulling out phones or whispering. If he did not seize control of the situation immediately, it would become a PR nightmare.
"Ma’am, if you continue to make such baseless and defamatory accusations within these walls, I will have no choice but to have security remove you from this hospital immediately." The doctor said, his voice dropping to a calm, icy tone. "Right now, your daughter is the patient here. If you truly care for her well-being, then you will calm yourself and cooperate with our medical staff."
Sang Yuling’s face stiffened as if she had been slapped. She looked around, finally noticing that every eye in the hallway was fixed on her with expressions of pity, judgment, or disgust. She could hear the muffled whispers of the onlookers, and a wave of raw humiliation washed over her.
"I... I... I was only worried about my daughter’s safety." Sang Yuling muttered, her voice shrinking as she tried to salvage whatever face she had left.
"Worrying does not grant you the right to slander the people trying to save her." The nurse replied bluntly.
The nurse realised a moment too late that the words she had been thinking had slipped out loud, and she quickly covered her mouth with her hand. However, no one in the hallway reprimanded her. In fact, several people nearby nodded in quiet agreement with the nurse’s sentiment.
Sang Yuling glared at the nurse, her eyes cold, but she no longer dared to respond. She bit her lip until it turned white and lowered her head, the fire of her irrational rage finally dampened by the weight of public shame.
The doctor let out a long, heavy sigh, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose before continuing.
"Are you ready to listen to the clinical details of your daughter’s condition now?" The doctor asked, his voice devoid of warmth.
"Yes." Sang Yuling nodded, her head still bowed.
"Then, let’s move to my private consultation room." The doctor gestured for her to follow.
Sang Yuling followed behind him like a chastened child. When they arrived, the doctor ushered her in first, but notably, he did not close the door. He left it wide open, a silent but clear precaution.
