Chapter 2749: The Target Escape
Chapter 2749: Chapter 2749: The Target Escape
However, after carefully checking all the twitching, grinning guards scattered outside in the dirt, they still could not locate him.
“He is not among the men out here.”
“Let’s move inside. Weapons up.”
The two men drew their firearms and immediately crossed the threshold into the house. After clearing the ground floor room by room, they finally found the middle-aged man lying completely motionless on the hard living room floor.
“Uncle Liam!”
The subordinate rushed over immediately, holstering his weapon and dropping beside the older man.
“Uncle Liam, are you alright? Who hit this place?” He asked anxiously while gently shaking the leader’s limp shoulder.
The middle-aged man slowly and stiffly rolled his head toward the sound of his name. Then, he simply grinned foolishly up at them. His vacant, blissed-out expression was completely identical to every single ruined guard outside.
“What… what kind of monster did this?” The subordinate felt a profound, icy chill run straight down his spine.
Meanwhile, his partner did not waste any time. He hurried toward the rear of the house and descended the stairs to inspect the underground holding room. A few frantic moments later, he came sprinting back upstairs, his face pale.
“There is no one left in the basement!” He reported urgently, his breath coming in short gasps.
“What?” The subordinate frowned.
“The cell is completely empty! The locks are shattered. The man that Young Miss wanted is already gone!” His partner stated.
Both operatives fell into a stunned, horrified silence. Neither of them could comprehend how a heavily chained Tang Qin Hao could possibly have escaped a secure facility guarded by an elite squad. After all, according to Young Miss’s explicit instructions, the target should have been completely paralysed and incapable of walking after receiving that specialised MicroTech muscle-suppressing drug.
“Hey…” The partner finally spoke, his hand trembling slightly. “I think we need to report this disaster to Young Miss immediately.”
“…Yeah.” The subordinate nodded heavily, his stomach churning.
He immediately pulled out his phone and speed-dialled Angelica Lee’s private line. The call was connected after only two sharp rings.
“Hmm? Speak.” Angelica Lee answered, her voice sharp with impatience.
“Young Miss…” The subordinate spoke with extreme caution, choosing his words carefully. “Something incredibly strange and catastrophic has happened over here at the safe house.”
“Oh? Strange?” Angelica Lee frowned deeply, sitting up straight in her chair. “What exactly do you mean by that? Is the target secure?”
“No, Young Miss. When we arrived on site, we found all of our elite security personnel lying completely incapacitated outside the house. When we tried interrogating them to find out who breached the perimeter, none of them could answer us properly. They just kept grinning foolishly at the sky as though they had completely lost their minds.” The subordinate paused, swallowing hard before delivering the final blow. “It is the exact same condition with Uncle Liam.”
“What?!” Angelica Lee immediately stood up from her leather chair, her pristine composure shattering instantly as her expression changed dramatically.
“Then…” She demanded sharply, her voice echoing in her office. “What about the man? What about Tang Qin Hao?!”
“We searched the entire property from top to bottom, Young Miss. The secure room in the basement is completely empty. The locks were broken with brute force. The man… is entirely gone.”
A lethal, dangerous expression immediately distorted Angelica Lee’s beautiful face.
“Damn it!” Angelica Lee clenched her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned white. “How could a paralysed man possibly escape that facility on his own?!”
“We don’t know, Young Miss.” The subordinate lowered his head instinctively over the line, even though she could not see his submission. “However, judging from the terrifying state of the guards, we strongly suspect that an outside rescue team used some sort of highly advanced, specialised nerve agent or chemical drug to neutralise our forces and extract him.”
“…What about their extraction vehicle? Did you spot any tracks?” Angelica Lee narrowed her eyes thoughtfully, her mind racing through her list of enemies.
“Uncle Liam’s vehicle is still parked completely untouched outside the house.” The subordinate replied immediately. “There are no signs of any other cars having entered the main trail.”
Angelica Lee fell into a tense silence for several calculating seconds.
“Then he probably has not managed to get very far from the grid.” Angelica Lee quickly reasoned, reaching her own conclusion based on the parameters of the drug. “I specifically instructed Liam to inject him with our maximum dose of the muscle-suppressing compound. Without the proper chemical antidote, he shouldn’t even possess enough cellular strength to stand on his own two feet, much less execute a woodland escape.”
Her tone became increasingly colder, vibrating with a promise of violence. “Mobilise all of our nearby regional personnel and mercenary assets immediately. I want every single main road, every hidden forest trail, every checkpoint, and every abandoned building within a ten-mile radius thoroughly searched. I don’t care what ruthless methods you have to employ to get it done. I want Tang Qin Hao found and brought back to me by midnight.”
“Yes, Young Miss!” The subordinate accepted the direct order immediately, relieved not to bear the brunt of her fury yet. “I will coordinate with all of our nearby patrol teams right away.”
After ending the call, the two operatives immediately began blasting out emergency notifications to every available operative and mercenary unit in the surrounding region. They moved with frantic urgency, completely and utterly unaware that the high-value target they were desperately turning the countryside upside down to find had already been chauffeured back safely to the very luxury hotel where the international medical conference was still peacefully taking place.
