Chapter 1136: Frustration
Chapter 1136: Chapter 1136: Frustration
The five of them got into the car, and Qin Zhiyuan started the engine. "Where are you guys heading?"
"Our car is just in the courtyard," Zhang Chunsheng said.
Among them, only he and Chengzi were on relatively good terms. As for Daqing and the others, they were just average, so nothing was said in the car.
Upon reaching the courtyard, Hu Zi reluctantly followed Daqing and the other two to the boss’s office. He couldn’t help but wonder why he still hadn’t succeeded.
Tan Shaoting was in a meeting, which allowed Hu Zi to breathe a sigh of relief.
"Can you handle it?"
"No, but dragging it out as long as possible would be something."
Zhang Chunsheng entered Zeng Zhenqing’s office. "You’re really not listening, are you?"
Zhang Chunsheng was very troubled, "Leader, I really have no say in this. It’s not that I’m disobedient, it’s just that none of them seem right to me. I don’t want to settle."
"What do you consider suitable? It’s okay if there isn’t anyone this time; come again in three days. We can stop when you’re satisfied."
Hearing these words, Zhang Chunsheng felt bitter. Would he have to keep appearing at such events in the future?
He dared not argue. "Yes, I will definitely come the day after tomorrow."
"Where’s Qin Zhiyuan?"
"Secretary Qin should be back at work."
Zeng Zhenqing glanced at Zhang Chunsheng. "You know that’s not what I meant."
Zhang Chunsheng just smiled foolishly, thinking this was Qin Zhiyuan’s issue to resolve himself.
Zeng Zhenqing sighed. "What exactly do you two want?"
"Leader, I just want someone who seems right and is clever."
"Alright, go with Qin Zhiyuan next time."
Qin Zhiyuan, who had just entered, heard this and felt a pang of bitterness.
After Tan Shaoting’s meeting ended, he saw three people sitting outside the office.
"Come in."
Once inside, Hu Zi proactively explained the situation.
"Boss, there’s nothing I can do if they don’t fancy me."
Tan Shaoting nodded, "What about you two?"
"Boss, I’m going to the young woman’s house tomorrow. I want her parents to meet me."
Hearing Chengzi’s words, Tan Shaoting nodded and then looked at Daqing.
"I’ll meet with the young woman the day after tomorrow."
Tan Shaoting looked at Hu Zi, "There’s another one in three days; go to that as well."
The other two chuckled, recalling how Hu Zi had vowed not to attend again. But now he was promptly informed he had to go again soon.
Hu Zi nodded, "Yes."
Tan Shaoting looked at the other two, "You two should make the most of this."
Both nodded, acknowledging how valuable this opportunity was. It truly was rare.
"What about Da Biao?"
"Da Biao is doing well. He was the first to finish and went to send the young woman home."
"That’s fine. We don’t know when Da Biao will return. You guys can leave now."
Chengzi called out to the two and returned to his own office with them.
After Zhang Chunsheng came out, Hu Zi and the other two left.
Only Daqing stayed behind to wait for Da Biao, chatting quietly in the meantime.
Meanwhile, Da Biao took the car keys and left with Huang Xiaoqing.
Once inside the car, Huang Xiaoqing gave directions since her home wasn’t far.
Not completely clueless, Da Biao said, "We should buy a few things first. It’s embarrassing to visit for the first time empty-handed."
"No need," she said.
Ignoring her, Da Biao drove to the department store, which was just about to close. They purchased some snacks, two bottles of liquor, and a pack of cigarettes.
Since there were only three people in the family, there was no need to prepare anything for kids.
Huang Xiaoqing felt very satisfied. Da Biao’s actions indicated the importance he placed on her.
She genuinely thought highly of Da Biao, despite the age difference and the fact that his job didn’t align with her parents’ expectations. Nonetheless, she had decided on him.
This was the first time in her life she hadn’t listened to her parents. Of course, it felt nerve-wracking, but also a little exciting.
"My house is just ahead."
The Huang family had a small courtyard, and Da Biao followed Huang Xiaoqing inside.
The parents were worried about their daughter. They knew she went on a matchmaking meeting, and they were anxious about it. The other party likely was older, and possibly many were from the team.
They had only one daughter, with no grand ambitions, just hoping she could live happily without aiming for a high status.
Yet, orders from above made refusing impossible.
The couple had already advised their daughter, who was a compliant child all her life. But it had been such a long time; how come she hadn’t returned yet?
As they fretted, they heard noise from outside.
Both parents came out together to see a man in military uniform carrying things and entering with their daughter.
They both had a bad feeling, but being educated, they didn’t react overtly.
Seeing their expressions, Huang Xiaoqing knew her parents weren’t pleased. Still, she wanted to fight for herself.
"Mom, Dad, this is Mr. Da Biao."
"Hello to both of you," Da Biao said.
Her father nodded and said, "Please, come in." Inviting him in as a guest couldn’t hurt; approving or not was another matter.
Da Biao followed them inside. Their home was very clean, just like how his sister-in-law tidied up.
"Please sit down."
Da Biao nodded and sat while Huang Xiaoqing sat opposite her parents.
"Mom, Dad, he is Mr. Da Biao. We both think highly of each other, so I brought him home for you to meet."
The Huang parents didn’t respond to their daughter but looked at Da Biao.
He seemed like someone of significance, but they didn’t want their daughter’s life to be hard. He may be excellent, but they still hesitated.
Da Biao stood up.
"Uncle, Auntie, my name is Da Biao. I’m an orphan and began training at eleven. I retired three years ago and am now an instructor."
They understood their daughter well. If she brought him home, she clearly was interested.
After hearing what Da Biao said, they felt somewhat relieved knowing he wasn’t on the battlefield anymore.
Da Biao continued, "I’m stationed at a garrison now, twenty-eight years old. I know I’m not the greatest catch, but I genuinely think Ms. Huang is wonderful.
If you have any questions, please, I will answer sincerely." With that, he sat upright.
The Huang couple exchanged a look. Then her father spoke, "Mr. Da Biao, we’re just an ordinary family. We want our daughter to live a normal life. We don’t have high material expectations for a son-in-law because we don’t want her constantly worrying."
"I hope you understand our concern as parents," her father finished with a sigh.
Da Biao stood up again, answering as if he were addressing a superior’s questions.
"Uncle, Auntie, I understand your worries. I actually feel the same way. I’ve never considered settling down before, fearing it would endanger my partner. But now I’ve retired, and the risk is much lower."
