Chapter 1665: At Ease
Chapter 1665: Chapter 1665: At Ease
Su Xing nodded, "There are a few. They used to often go looking for Dad."
"We can only ask to see them outside, don’t know if we’ll be able to see them, or if they’re still around."
Along the way, there were no traces of war, meaning there were only small-scale conflicts at the border.
The information they received was very little; coming here was very passive.
They stopped not far from the military camp, leaving one person to watch the horses, while the four of them walked over. Here, they had to be very proper; it would be troublesome to be mistaken as spies or provocateurs.
Su Xing felt he was the only man in the family responsible for affairs now, as he approached the camp gate and cupped his hands.
"Military officer, we are here to find Feng Xi."
"Feng Xi? Who are you?"
"Officer, we came from the capital, and are acquaintances of Feng Xi."
His sister warned him on the way not to mention Dad. It could be dangerous otherwise.
"Wait over there."
Su Yuanyuan pulled Su Xing aside. Here, even if we got killed, there’d be no place to plead the case.
Seeing someone go inside eased their minds.
Su Yuanyuan was anxious, thinking if they really got arrested, how would she rescue Su Xing.
Waiting was tormenting. All four of them watched the entrance of the camp, hoping Feng Xi would hurry out.
After about half an hour, a middle-aged man came out hurriedly, saw the four of them at once, and ran over.
"Uncle Feng."
"Su Xing, what are you doing here?"
"Uncle Feng, where’s my dad?" Su Xing asked anxiously in a low voice.
Feng Xi sighed, "Don’t inquire about your dad’s matters. I can only tell you, your dad is fine."
With this, both Su Yuanyuan and Su Xing sighed with relief.
"Isn’t it dangerous for you to come such a long way?" Feng Xi sighed.
"Uncle Feng, we’re waiting for Dad here, just in the nearest village," Su Xing said urgently.
"That works, you can stay in Zhang Village."
"Uncle Feng, Dad isn’t injured or anything, right?"
Still not feeling assured.
"Don’t pursue this matter. Your dad is truly fine, he can visit you after a while."
Really can’t say more. Coming out for such a long time only because of instructions from above.
"Uncle Feng. We’ll be waiting in Zhang Village. Be sure to tell Dad to visit us."
"It’ll definitely happen. I think he can come over in at most two months."
Su Yuanyuan watched Feng Xi’s expression closely; he shouldn’t be lying.
As long as Dad’s alright, it’s fine, still feels dangerous staying in the residence all the time.
Feng Yan watched them leave, then returned to the camp.
Su Wanshan had been watching outside all along. Feeling both anxious and happy inside.
What father wouldn’t be happy when their children come to see them?
"General, Su Xing and the others went to Zhang Village."
"Hmm, that’s good. It’s the safest there."
Su Wanshan was out of options. His biggest worry was the two kids, now they’re here, there are no more concerns.
Rushed to meet the person above. Their game had pushed him to the edge of danger. Honestly didn’t want to get involved, but had no choice.
In a few years, no matter who rises, he’d leave with the children.
Su Xing became more talkative, "Sis, do you think Feng Xi was telling the truth?"
"I think he was, I kept looking at Feng Xi’s face, felt he was honest.
Anyway, let’s wait here."
Su Xing nodded excitedly.
As long as Dad’s alright, it doesn’t matter where we are.
Su Wanshan’s parenting of his son and daughter was entirely different. The daughter was spoiled endlessly, the son was strictly disciplined from young. Hence, Su Xing didn’t have the pampered temperament of young masters.
By the time they reached Zhang Village, it was already night, and there was nobody outside in the village.
After a day of work, this time was for eating and resting.
Leading their horse through the village, they knocked on a door.
"Brother, could you tell us where the village head’s house is?"
"You’re outsiders." The young man looked at the big horse outside and asked.
"Yes, we are outsiders. Where’s the village head’s house?"
"Just keep going, the largest house is the village head’s."
Su Xing thanked him and continued leading the horse.
Su Yuanyuan sighed inwardly, wherever you go, the village head’s house is always the largest in the village. Even if they’re mud houses, you can tell the size and quality of the house.
This time it was Su Lin who knocked on the door, the look-out was a middle-aged man.
"Brother, we came from afar. We’d like to see the village head."
The middle-aged man also noticed the five of them leading horses.
"Who are you people?" The middle-aged man asked cautiously.
"Uncle, our relatives are in the camp, we came to seek refuge," Su Yuanyuan said with a smile.
Now the middle-aged man understood, the camp doesn’t allow outsiders in.
"Come in, lead your horses in too."
Once inside, the five tied their horses to the side. The middle-aged man was practical; after letting them sit down, he started feeding the livestock.
Su Yuanyuan thought, these animals are more valuable than people. She really guessed right, nowadays livestock are indeed more precious because they are more hardworking.
An energetic old man came out, "Where are you folks from?"
Su Yuanyuan spoke up again, "Are you the village head? We’re from the capital here to visit family at the camp. Due to some reasons, we can’t enter, so we thought since the village is nearest to the camp, we’d stay for a while."
"You can live here, but our village is poor."
"Village head, rest assured, we won’t disturb the village folk in any way."
"There are no vacant houses in the village. You have many people, accommodations will be an issue."
Su Yuanyuan smiled, "Village head, just give us shelter for now. Tomorrow we’ll hire people to help build a house, planning to stay in the village for a few months or more. Wouldn’t feel right to keep bothering others."
"Alright, you can stay. For today, squeeze in with us.
You must not have eaten yet. We don’t have much to offer, but we have porridge that can fill you up."
Su Yuanyuan nodded with a smile, "Thank you, village head, for taking us in."
The old village head waved his hand. Seeing these folks, they clearly weren’t ordinary people. Since they came here, the least he could do is accommodate them, hoping they wouldn’t bring trouble to the village.
The five enjoyed their meal knowing their family was safe; even sorghum porridge tasted better than dry food.
That night, they were initially assigned to one room, but Su Lin and the others dared not.
The three men slept in the yard, which made Su Yuanyuan feel a bit embarrassed.
"Old man, this?"
"The two inside must be the masters; they definitely shouldn’t sleep together. Since there’s no choice, let’s arrange for the three to stay at Second’s house tomorrow. Though they won’t live there for free."
"Hmm. Will they really build a house tomorrow?"
"Where else will they stay without building a house? So many people, not convenient otherwise."
