Chapter 903: Starting School

Chapter 903: Chapter 903: Starting School

The two boys nodded, and thus the children were led into the classroom by the teacher.

Zhang Fusheng and Zhou Yongbing followed Zhao Qingxiang to handle the children’s enrollment and pay the tuition fees.

Once the children went to class, they headed home.

"Older brother, this yard is really nice, it’s only a few minutes from the school. It’s safe and convenient for the children to go to and from school."

"Yes, it’s really convenient. By the way Fusheng, Little Hong won’t go to your house, she’ll be fine at home. Otherwise, Xiao Ling and the others will have to pick her up every day.

That child is very well-behaved, there won’t be any problems at home."

"Brother, it’s fine. She can keep Minghua company."

"Really, it’s unnecessary, I wouldn’t be polite with you. This is something the children have discussed among themselves.

We’ve been out for more than three hours, let’s go back and check on Little Hong."

When the three of them came in, they saw the little girl running out. Seeing the people coming in, she showed a disappointed expression, but still went out to hold Zhao Qingxiang’s hand.

The three went into the house and saw that the little girl had just been playing on the kang. They were reassured.

"Fusheng, as you can see, Little Hong is fine on her own at home. Xiao Ling and the others should be over soon. She won’t be alone for long, in a few years she will go to school too."

Zhang Fusheng didn’t say anything else. To be honest, his mom was old. He wasn’t really comfortable with taking care of two small children. But he agreed nonetheless. Turned out they didn’t need to help.

The two didn’t stay for dinner, they went home. They knew that the brother-in-law would only leave in a few days. It was decided that they would go to the Zhou family for dinner together in the evening. Only then did the two leave.

At noon, when school was over, the four children ran home. Zhao Qingxiang had already prepared lunch. Two wheat buns and stir-fried potato slices.

At the dining table, "Hai Jun, Zhixue, how do you both feel?"

"Uncle, it’s great. We know what the teacher is teaching, and our classmates played with us during break."

"Xiao Ling, Xiao Le, how about you two?"

"Dad, we can understand what the teacher is teaching. The classmates are also nice. We didn’t get bullied."

This really put Zhao Qingxiang at ease. "Since that’s the case, I’ll return the day after tomorrow. If you have any issues, discuss them, and if you really can’t make a decision, go to your aunt." Zhao Qingxiang advised again.

Zhao Xiaoling nodded obediently. "Dad, you should go back. There’s only mom at home. I’ll take good care of my younger siblings. Don’t worry."

Zhao Qingxiang patted the eldest daughter’s head. "Good, it’s because dad isn’t capable enough, leaving the youngest sister to you."

"Dad, you’re the best. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to come here to study."

In the afternoon, Zhao Qingxiang went to the train station to buy tickets. Unexpectedly, he got tickets for tomorrow morning. So he could leave the next day.

Upon returning from the station, he found the little girl sleeping on the kang. Seeing him, she smiled shyly.

Guilt overwhelmed Zhao Qingxiang; indeed, he felt incapable. "Little Hong."

The little girl sweetly called out, "Dad."

"Little Hong, when your brother and sister go to school, you must be safe at home and not play with fire or anything."

"Big sister and second sister told me. I’ll be good."

Zhao Qingxiang picked up the little girl, she was so light. "When you’re old enough, you’ll go to school too, so be good and don’t wander out alone."

The little girl wasn’t used to being held but obediently sat in her father’s arms.

In the evening, Zhao Qingxiang made deep-fried corn bread and boiled some porridge.

"How did you feel today?"

The two boys smiled; they couldn’t be in the second grade, but first-grade knowledge wasn’t hard for them, and being boys, they quickly made friends.

Zhao Xiaoling and Zhao Xiaole were optimistic as they reported. They were in the third grade, and their classmates were older. But the girls were quiet, so no one bullied them. There was no sense of exclusion, although their hometown accent was evident as they spoke. Even though born here, they lived at home, so their accent was apparent.

"I have an 8 a.m. train tomorrow, I’m leaving. Keep the money you have safe, and if you need anything, go straight to your aunt."

Not reassured, Zhao Qingxiang reminded them again.

The children nodded obediently. Zhao Qingxiang didn’t know what else to do; he had repeated his advice many times.

The next day, he got up to make breakfast, and the two daughters also got up.

The father and daughters finished making and eating breakfast, then went their separate ways. Zhao Qingxiang went to his little sister’s house. Passing by their house on the way to the train station, he found Zhou Yongbing at home. Knowing that his brother-in-law was leaving, he went along to see him off.

"Don’t worry, brother, we’ll take care of the children."

"I know. There’s nothing to worry about. Xiao Ling and Xiao Le are well-behaved. Just keep an eye on the boys, I told them yesterday not to fight and to come to you if there’s trouble."

"It’s fine; when we aren’t home, my parents are. And my brother-in-law is a middle school principal; I’ve told him to keep an eye on them during the school year."

Zhao Qingxiang smiled and nodded, "That’s good."

Half an hour later, he boarded the train. Zhou Yongbing went to his brother-in-law’s house, but the door was locked. He knew it was just the little girl at home, so he went back. He thought of making something good for them for lunch, so they wouldn’t be afraid since the adults were gone.

Back home, he told his parents.

"We still have some meat, let’s make sauerkraut dumplings. Let them steam themselves, so they can also light the stove." Mrs. Zhou liked her daughter-in-law’s nieces, thinking they were sensible.

After all, there were five children. So, preparation began; they needed to make enough.

The dumplings were placed in the yard, and they froze quickly.

At noon, Zhou Yongbing rode the family’s tricycle to deliver the food.

He was a bit early, as school wasn’t out yet, so he waited at the door.

Just a few minutes later, the school bell rang. Within two minutes, he saw the four children running back.

"Uncle," they all greeted politely.

"I made you dumplings; steam them yourselves."

The children smiled and thanked Zhou Yongbing. He followed them inside and saw the little girl sitting at the doorstep waiting. She was indeed too sweet. He went back to discuss with his wife about having a daughter. They already had two sons, enough.

"Alright, you can light the fire and steam them yourselves. I’m heading back. If there’s any trouble, come to our house. There is always someone there."
