Chapter 951 Returns
Chapter 951: 951 Returns
Zhang Haisheng found the carriage driver who used to take him to town.
"Accountant Zhang, are you heading back now?"
"Indeed, and I’m bringing a few kids with me. It’s inconvenient to stay out, so it’s best to hurry home."
"Alright, I’ll get ready. This time, help me buy some wheat and cotton. Some cottonseed oil would be even better."
"Sure, no problem. That’s not an issue." These things might be hard to get if they want to buy more in the city, but it’s really not an issue on the farm.
Hai Jun was downcast. Among the five children, only Little Hong didn’t know anything. Although the two older ones didn’t know what was wrong, they could tell that Hai Jun was in a bad mood.
Zhang Haisheng sighed in his heart; this matter is really hard to talk about. Back then, the issue with his nephew and Zhao Yanping caused quite a stir. Who knows what’s going to happen this time.
Actually, these two incidents are quite different. Back then, Zhao Yanping was really wronged at her cousin’s home.
Zhao Xiaojing, although she too faced her husband’s infidelity, wasn’t wronged. It just depends on whether the Zhao Family can forgive Xu Hongbing this time.
When the road was cold, a few kids would run alongside the carriage for a stretch but didn’t dare to sweat, as it would be colder once they got back on the carriage. Fortunately, there was a canopy over the carriage to block some wind.
Even so, not one child complained; they just thought about getting home soon.
Because of the heavy snow, even though it was night, they could still see the road. So they didn’t stop.
It was not until after nine o’clock the next morning that the carriage arrived at the farm.
Zhang Haisheng saw smiles on the children’s faces.
"Xiao Ling, your family moved to where Mr. Li used to live, you know that, right?"
"Grandpa Zhang, we know."
"I’ll take you over there. Your grandparents are there too."
The kids nodded, but Hai Jun still didn’t speak. This kid was really affected. But there’s no helping it; it was something he discovered himself, not something someone told him, so it’s harder for him to accept. After all, he’s still just a child.
At the gate of Zhao Qingxiang’s house, all five kids jumped off the carriage.
The elderly couple inside, who were shelling corn, heard the commotion outside and hurried out.
"Grandpa, Grandma." The kids called out in unison, except for Hai Jun, who hung his head.
"Good, good. Thank you, Accountant Zhang, for going out of your way."
Zhang Fusheng shook his head, "It’s nothing. This is not a big deal. Brother Zhao, I have something to do at the headquarters, I’ve brought the kids back home for you."
"Alright, really thank Accountant Zhang. Let Qingxiang and his wife know when you get to the headquarters."
Zhang Haisheng waved his hand, got on the carriage, and left.
The kids chattered and chirped as they followed inside the house.
"Grandpa, Grandma, what are my parents doing at headquarters?"
"Your parents are working to earn money at headquarters."
An Lixia pulled Zhao Xiaoling, "Hurry up and get on the kang, I’ll make some dumpling soup for you."
"Grandpa, I want to go home," Zhixue said.
Zhao Tian nodded, "Alright, I’ll harness the carriage and take you back. What about Hai Jun?"
Zhao Xiaole spoke up, "Grandpa, let my second uncle and second aunt come home. There’s something regarding my second uncle."
Zhao Tian looked at Hai Jun, who was hanging his head and remained silent, with a frown.
Zhao Xiaole took Zhao Tian’s hand and went outside. In the yard, they whispered about the situation they saw in the city.
Zhao Tian was a mild-tempered person, but upon hearing the news, his eyebrows shot up.
"You guys go inside and wait. Accountant Zhang saw it too, didn’t he?"
Zhao Xiaole nodded, "Yeah, if it weren’t for Accountant Zhang, Hai Jun might have been hit."
Zhao Tian furrowed his brow even more and left with the carriage.
An Lixia was worried too, and asked the eldest granddaughter.
"Grandma, I don’t know what’s going on either. We were eating when suddenly Xiao Le and Hai Jun said they needed to go out, and shortly after, Accountant Zhang went with them."
The dumpling soup was ready quickly, and An Lixia even poached an egg for each of the kids.
"Hurry up and drink the soup. I’ll make some pancakes for you. Once you’re full, you’ll warm up."
An Lixia was afraid the kids would catch a cold. There was plenty of ginger in the dumpling soup with sauerkraut.
The kids had just finished a bowl when the pancakes came, with eggs and scallions in the batter. They were fried until crispy and looked very appetizing.
Zhang Haisheng reached the headquarters and went straight to find Zhao Qingxiang.
"Qingxiang, I’ve brought the five kids home for you."
"Thank you, Accountant Zhang."
Zhang Haisheng waved his hand. He noticed Zhao Xiaoling was also working here and sighed inwardly. "Qingxiang, step outside for a moment. I have something to tell you."
Zhao Qingxiang was puzzled but followed Zhang Haisheng into Feng Baoshan’s office, which was quite warm.
"Qingxiang, while we were dining in the city, we came across Xu Haijun being quite intimate with a woman. Then Xiao Le and Hai Jun followed them out. They might have found out something. Subsequently, Hai Jun knocked into that woman."
Upon hearing what Accountant Zhang said, Zhao Qingxiang’s expression turned incredibly sour.
Feng Baoshan was stunned as well. Didn’t expect such a thing to occur? Xu Haijun, after the autumn harvest, left with a cart full of grain. Didn’t notice if he had returned.
If caught, such matters are serious offenses. Xu Hongbing is quite shrewd; he should know better.
Brazen confidence? It seems so; he likely thinks that even if discovered, nothing will happen, right? Such incidents have already occurred in the farm once, involving them, and yet they tread this path? Truly perplexing.
"Thank you, Accountant Zhang, for protecting the children. Director Feng, I’ll head back now."
Feng Baoshan nodded, "Go ahead. Don’t worry, if anything arises needing my help, I’ll definitely stand by your side." The two Zhao sisters frequently helped out on the farm, plus Su Yuanyuan’s connection with the Zhao Family, necessitated his support.
Although Xu Hongbing is capable, he only appears so due to Zhao Family’s presence; otherwise, he’d be an ordinary worker on the farm.
Zhao Qingxiang nodded, "Accountant Zhang, is the carriage driver heading back to the city? Could you ask him to help inform Zhao Xiaoli by phone?"
"To inform the sisters about this matter?"
Zhao Qingxiang nodded.
Feng Baoshan added, "I am heading to the city for a meeting the day after tomorrow. If you have such plans, I’ll pass the message to the sisters then."
Zhao Qingxiang nodded. That would work too, since the driver might not articulate it well.
He called for his wife and sister to come out, "The kids are back; let’s head home."
Both were quite pleased. Sun Yun now truly misses the kids; distance makes the heart grow fonder, despising the mess nearby, realizing only when they’re gone how much they are cherished.
