Chapter 305: Master At Work

"Wait," Adam calls for Kelly, making her stop in her step.

As she turns around to look at Adam, wondering why he called for her, she sees him smiling.

"What about you? Have you eaten anything yet?" Adam asks.

Kelly draws a blank for a second as she didn’t expect such a question from Adam; after all, rarely do guests ever care or ask for her.

"No..." She says softly.

"Well, why don’t you join us. We would love the extra company," Adam says politely with a smile on his face.

Seeing Adam’s charming smile, hearing his police tone, and his welcoming attitude, plus her already growing attraction towards him, she couldn’t help but agree to his request.

"If you don’t mind..." She says.

"Why would we mind having the company of a beautiful woman? Isn’t that right, Danny?" Adam says, bringing Danny to join in and get himself a little familiar with Kelly.

After all, he has not said a word to Kelly since the moment they met.

"Yes, we wouldn’t mind at all. Please join us," Danny follows in Adam’s footsteps and talks to Kelly with a decent tone.

Kelly looks at Danny and is surprised to hear him. Since the moment they met, the only one who talked to her was Adam, and she didn’t mind it because Adam’s clearly the one she is attracted to.

She thought Danny was just too arrogant to talk to a lowly woman like her; after all, he is a billionaire.

She didn’t expect the first time he talked to her, he would be so polite.

’Looks like I guessed wrong,’ She thought and looked back at Adam, who extended his hand at her.

Seeing this, she couldn’t help but reach out and grab his hand.

Adam gave her a slightly wider smile, pulled her closer, and made her sit right next to him.

"But what about the food?" She asked.

"I am sure you can arrange it through a call. You don’t need to leave now, do you?" Adam suggests.

"I can do that," she says, nodding her head, and takes out her phone to call someone.

Kelly began talking into the phone and placing an order for Adam, Danny, and herself. Adam looks at Danny, who has his eyes fixated on Kelly’s legs, which are much more exposed now that she is sitting down.

If her skirt slides up a little more, Danny would definitely be able to see what color of underwear she is wearing underneath.

Luckily for him, Kelly’s attention is completely occupied by Adam, so she doesn’t notice his perverted behavior. As for Adam, he can’t blame the poor guy. After all, he’s a virgin who has very little sexual experience, and now that Adam has promised him to get some more action from Kelly, the hot tour guide lady, he clearly can’t control himself but thinks about it.

Adam decides to help Danny by making sure to keep Kelly’s attention on him so that she doesn’t see Danny being a little pervert and reducing his chances of getting with Kelly after Adam is done with her.

"So, Kelly, tell me a little more about yourself. How did you end up working here?" Adam says, deciding to dig in a little deeper, making sure that Kelly feels heard and understood.

Seeing that Adam is interested in her life, Kelly begins talking.

"Well, I grew up in the countryside. My dad was a mechanic, so I have always been around cars. I spent most of my time with my dad in his workshop, watching him work on cars. That’s how I became interested in cars in general. I wanted to learn more about them.

And since there is not much I can do about it in my town, I came to this city to study engineering. My passion is to become a racecar engineer one day. Since it’s my passion, I wanted to work around cars and watch the professionals at work. Luckily, one of my friends knew someone who helped me get this position," Kelly says.

"That’s impressive. So you are trying to get your engineering degree right now?" Adam asks.

"Yes, this will be my final year," Kelly says.

"Impressive, I didn’t expect you to be pursuing a career while working, it must be hard," Adam says softly, while reaching out for her hand and gently rubbing her knuckles, showing her sympathy.

Danny, who has been listening to the conversation and watching Adam carefully, notices how subtle Adam is with his actions but how effective they are at the same time. His ability to show emotions on his face to draw in Kelly is a master class.

With every passing second, his respect for Adam continues to grow.

"Well, yes, it’s been hard. I work in the morning while I attend evening classes. This city is expensive. I need to do something to survive here," Kelly says.

"I see. That’s brave of you. I am sure you will achieve your dream," Adam says kindly, smiling at her while staring into her eyes with his intense gaze, slowly closing the distance between him and her.

Kelly quickly comes to the realization that the distance between her and Adam is almost non-existent. Her leg is touching his, and their faces are just a few inches away from each other.

Her eyes shift from his strikingly beautiful golden eyes to his lips. The intrusive thought of wanting to kiss him comes to her mind, but of course, she doesn’t dare act on it. After all, she has many things she needs to consider before doing so.

While her heart starts racing and her cheeks flush from the explicit thoughts she is having, she notices Adam shift his gaze away from hers to look at her hands.

"This ring, are you perhaps married or engaged?" Adam asks.

The question hits her like a truck for no reason. The first thought that comes to her mind is to deny it because it could ruin her chance with Adam, but she stops. She second-guesses herself and decides to tell the truth. After all, Adam and Danny are powerful people, and they will find out about it anyway.

"Yes, I am engaged..." Kelly says.

"Oh, congratulations, how long have you been engaged?" Adam asks, not because he is curious but because he found something he can exploit.

If she had said she was married, it would have been a little harder, but she said engaged. Given the ring she is wearing and the strong tan line and stress mark around her finger from the ring, Adam can guess that she has been wearing this ring for a very long time.

And Adam knows that long engagements never go well. They either end up in a regrettable marriage or break it off before marrying.

Kelly presses her lips together while her eyes flutter a little with frustration. Adam notices this; he knows he hit the right spot with his question.

"Umm... Six years," Kelly says.

"Oh..." Adam immediately replies, blatantly expressing her answers with a disapproval. Especially to make sure that Kelly hears it the way he means it.

How can someone be engaged for six years and not be married?

"I don’t want to be rude, but can I know how old you are, Kelly?" Adam asks while still holding onto her hands, rubbing her gently, making sure that she feels safe in his presence.

"I am twenty-five years old," Kelly answers.

"You got engaged when you were twenty and still not married? Are you and your fiancé not doing well? Hope I am not being intrusive," Adam says, adding that last bit to express that these intentions are pure, when in fact, they are not.

"No, it’s fine. It’s just ... Everything’s fine with our relationship. I think we have just gotten very comfortable with each other, that’s all. Nothing more...

I met my fiancé right after moving to this city. We dated for a few years, and then he proposed. As for marriage itself, we never talked about it afterward." Kelly says.

Adam can see that Kelly and her fiancé’s relationship is almost about to end. For them to be together for so long after engagement shows that they are second-guessing the marriage itself.

To propose after dating for two years or so and then spending the next six years without moving forward with the marriage shows that both are hesitant about it, but also don’t want to break it off because they are comfortable with each other and don’t want to take the risk.

Kelly’s from a small town and got into a relationship with someone right after moving into a big city, so she has no experience living in this city alone. As for her fiancé, Adam has no idea what his problem is, but since he has still not moved forward with the marriage, it shows that he himself might be dealing with his own set of problems, maybe it’s financial or self-doubt, or he just doesn’t want to marry Kelly.

A relationship like this is bound to end. Adam’s involvement today will just fast-forward it.

"Well, let’s change the subject. No need to talk about depressing things. Kelly, tell me more about your passion for car racing," Adam says, shifting the conversation to something else, but also labeling Kelly’s relationship as depressing, which will definitely make her second-guess herself about it.

Even though Adam’s actions and words were subtle and would have gone completely unnoticed by others, Danny, who has been watching carefully, is beyond impressed by how Adam managed to degrade Kelly and her relationship with her fiancé.

Danny realizes he is witnessing a master at work. A man who can get any woman he wants.

His respect for Adam grows further.
