Chapter 1954: Not Yet
Chapter 1954: Not Yet
The hall erupted into chaos almost immediately after Ning revealed his face and declared himself to be a man whose wife and child had been killed by Leamor.
With representatives throughout the lower level rising from their seats while dozens of voices collided with one another, camera flashes continued going off from the upper sections, and the security personnel stationed throughout the venue began moving toward the stage without knowing whether they were supposed to protect Leamor, restrain Ning, or simply prevent the situation from becoming worse than it already was.
Prince Tarian was among the first to approach, having already left his seat the moment Ning grabbed Leamor, and while several Veronoth guards moved with him from either side, the prince raised one hand to stop them from doing anything reckless while Ning still had the High-Elf firmly trapped in his grip.
"Blackfang, whatever happened between you and this man needs to be handled properly, so let him go before this becomes something none of us can resolve without damaging relations between multiple countries."
Ning turned toward the prince and then to the Faedrian representatives. "Alya, a High Elf of royal bloodline, had run away from her home because she didn’t want to be used in his attempt at becoming the next King. When he found her many years later, and saw that she was with child, he killed both the mother and child."
"No," Leamor shouted. "I didn’t."
Ning turned toward Maelis, who still stood in fear at the side. She came out of her stupor and quickly shook her head.
"That’s a lie."
Ning turned back with a snort.
Leamor realized at that point that there was no getting out of this.
Green energy suddenly exploded from his body as he swiped his hands at Ning.
The blast struck Ning directly in the chest at no distance at all, powerful enough that the air around them compressed before bursting outward, while several nearby objects were thrown from the stage and Sharon stumbled backward until President Morstell caught her arm.
Ning did not move.
The green energy washed around his body before fading into the air, leaving his clothing slightly disturbed but accomplishing nothing else.
Leamor stared at him with shock.
Ning looked down at the place where the attack had landed before raising his eyes again.
"That was disappointing."
Leamor’s face twisted. He raised both hands, gathering more green energy around his palms, but before he could release another attack, something dark spread across the stage beneath Ning’s feet.
Ning looked down.
The darkness moved like liquid.
It emerged without warning from several meters away and raced across the floor, swallowing the polished surface beneath a layer of absolute black that seemed deeper than any shadow should have been, until it reached Ning and immediately widened around him.
Void had moved.
Ning had not even noticed the man leave the Sisanian section.
One moment he had been seated with his delegation.
The next, he stood several meters from the stage, one gloved hand extended forward while darkness poured from beneath him and connected to the black surface surrounding Ning.
Then Ning felt something pulling downward.
It was not gravity.
The darkness itself seemed to possess depth where none should have existed, turning the floor beneath Ning into something closer to a bottomless opening that attempted to drag everything touching it into whatever space existed below.
Several loose pieces of equipment vanished instantly.
A broken stand slipped into the darkness without making a sound.
Even part of the podium tilted toward it before President Morstell quickly stepped away.
Ning was beginning to be swallowed too, but he ignored the power of darkness and remained exactly where he was. And as he held on to Leamor, he remained exactly where he was as well.
Void’s hidden face turned slightly and he poured more into the darkness. The pull became stronger.
And yet, Ning still did not move.
Void stopped increasing the force once he realized this wasn’t working. He wasn’t sure what Ning was doing that stopped it from happening, but Ning had entirely ignored his power. This was far more surprising than he had ever thought it would be.
For the first time since gaining his powers, the world’s greatest hero appeared genuinely confused.
Ning ignored him.
His attention remained entirely on Leamor.
The High-Elf was breathing heavily now, his anger slowly giving way to something much more uncomfortable as he realized that the people rushing to save him had been unable to move Ning even slightly.
Ning pulled him closer, practically whispering to him.
"You killed my family, so I have come here for revenge. However, while I could kill you right now and end this facade, I won’t. I don’t want you to have a quick death. I want you to suffer some more. Because I want you to live for a little longer knowing that your death is coming and there is nothing you can do to stop it."
Leamor stared at him with plain fear on his face.
Ning smiled and let him go.
The High-Elf stumbled backward several steps before finally catching himself, while the darkness beneath Ning withdrew almost immediately and returned toward Void, leaving the stage intact where it had been only moments earlier.
The guards continued approaching.
President Morstell looked as though she could not decide whether she wanted to shout at Ning or simply leave the stage and pretend she had never agreed to bring him to Veronoth.
Leamor had no such hesitation.
He spun around and thrust both hands toward Ning. He needed to kill this man no matter what. So, green light formed around his palms as he took in as much power as he could and threw it at Ning.
The winds formed before they even left his palms.
Leamor blinked in surprise, unsure what had just happened. "What... what did you do to me?"
He tried again, and this time he failed to even create anything. His power wasn’t working at all.
It took a moment for everyone else to realize that their powers weren’t working either.
