Reincarnated as an Energy with a System

Chapter 1953: Demonstration

Chapter 1953: Demonstration

Leamor blinked in surprise, unsure what he was to do.

"Do not worry, sir. You won’t have to take the serum. We simply want someone outside of Conjora to explain to others whether what we’re doing is a success or not."

The man accepted after hearing that and walked up to the stage. With everyone watching, he didn’t really have a choice in the first place.

Ning then looked toward the Veronoth section, immediately locking eyes with the woman.

"Captain Maelis, you shall be the one to take the serum."

Maelis’ expression changed immediately. She looked toward the princess, who didn’t show much emotion except to give a simple nod.

President Morstell moved closer to Ning.

"What exactly are you doing? This is not part of the presentation."

"It’ll help demonstrate the serum."

Leamor and Maelis approached the stage from opposite sides.

President Morstell leaned toward Ning again.

"This had better have a very good explanation."

"It does."

Maelis arrived first, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked at Ning, while Leamor came several moments later and stopped farther away.

Neither understood why they had been chosen.

Ning gestured toward Maelis.

"Captain Maelis, would you tell everyone what ability it is that you possess?" he asked.

The woman frowned a little. "I possess an ability that allows me to determine whether someone is lying."

"And would you tell us what the range is for your ability?" Ning asked.

"A little less than 5 meters," the woman said.

Ning smiled and gestured for her to move to a specific spot while he brought Leamor over to one side, making him stand with his back to the crowd.

"That’s about 3 meters, isn’t it?" Ning asked. "Sir Leamor, would you mind holding out a number of fingers behind your back and telling her what number it is? You are free to lie."

The man understood the purpose and took part in the test.

Maelis was to figure out whether what he said was the truth or a lie. She did so easily each time Leamor said the number. Each time she got it correct, Ning had Leamor take a step back. He did so until Maelis couldn’t answer anymore. It was beyond her range.

"Ladies and gentlemen, that is as far as Captain Maelis’ powers allow her to find the lie," Ning said. "But we can push it further."

Ning ignored the reaction the crowd gave and picked up one of the vials. He showed it to the crowd once before handing it over to Sharon.

Maelis accepted the vial from Sharon after a brief glance toward the princess, and then showed her arm for the syringe to go in. She waited for a second, but she didn’t feel anything had changed.

Ning turned toward Leamor. "Sir Leamor, can you start again?"

The High-Elf did as asked, bringing up fingers and speaking a number. Each time it didn’t match, Maelis could tell whether it was a lie or the truth. The man stepped back more and more, and passed nearly 9 meters before Maelis couldn’t tell anymore.

That in itself was surprising. Then Ning called Leamor back up close.

"As you can see, Captain Maelis’ power improved upon taking the serum," Ning said.

Ning stood next to Leamor and turned toward Maelis. "Captain Maelis, a few more tests, if you would indulge us. I am a vampire."

The woman frowned. "That’s a lie."

Ning turned to the crowd. "That is indeed a lie. I am a Dhampir," he said.

The president frowned, concerned that Ning was revealing such a thing, but she said nothing.

"Next one. There is another type of serum we intend to demonstrate today."

Maelis blinked in surprise herself.

"That’s true."

President Morstell frowned.

Ning continued before she could interrupt him.

"Leamor Vanar is a murderer."

The hall went silent.

Maelis’ expression froze.

Leamor immediately turned toward Ning.

"What is this?"

Ning did not look at him.

He watched Maelis. "Miss Maelis?"

"What the fuck is this?" Leamor shouted, turning around.

Maelis swallowed, unable to speak.

Ning leaned ahead a little, such that only the people on the stage could hear him. "Answer the question or I will kill you and your princess the moment you lie."

The president heard that and gasped. Sharon’s eyes widened in panic as well. None of them could understand what was happening.

Maelis’ face went pale.

"Miss Maelis? Is it true or not that Leamor Vanar is a murderer?"

Maelis gulped. "It’s true."

Leamor turned with eyes of fury. "I will not be a part of this farce."

"Oh, you will," Ning said, grabbing the man so tightly that he could not turn around. "Next statement. A High-Elf of royal blood named Alya died 6 years ago."

Maelis blinked for a moment and then nodded.

"True."

"Her child died back then as well."

"True."

Leamor stepped forward.

"Enough."

Ning grabbed him tightly.

"And Leamor was responsible for both of their deaths."

Maelis stopped breathing for a moment, sensing the truth in the statement.

"True."

The hall exploded into noise.

Faedrian representatives stood from their seats. The other two candidates were more than happy to watch Leamor’s fall come from something they had nothing to do with, but watching their country be mistreated on a world stage didn’t sit right with them.

Officials began speaking all at once, and several guards moved closer to the stage.

Leamor’s expression twisted from anger into something much closer to alarm.

"This is absurd. How dare you try and lie? Who put you up to this?" the man asked, even shouting. "Conjora will answer for this mistreatment."

Ning turned toward him at last, finally staring directly at the man.

Leamor stopped, his words stuck in his throat when he saw Ning’s eyes. There was anger hidden inside them that he didn’t understand.

President Morstell felt the world go dark. Such a thing should not be happening.

"Blackfang, let go of him."

Ning ignored her and slowly reached for his mask, pulling it off. Camera flashes appeared all around as he revealed his face to the crowd.

Then he spoke aloud with madness in his voice.

"I am Valen Jassens. And you, Leamor, murdered my wife and son."
