Chapter 247: The one who’s going to slap your ass.

In the past two months, while everyone was developing themselves and getting stronger, I was stuck at the same point, I’m still stronger than most people... but winning requires being better than everyone.

Elliot and Emeris were at Rank 4, and there are other people from the other Empires at Rank 4 too... so my situation was bad... very bad.

And even though I don’t like this, I didn’t really have to win... it’s enough for one of us to win, maybe Elliot or even Emeris, and I’ll ask them to bring it for me.

Knowing Elliot I don’t think he’d refuse if I told him about my condition... as for Emeris... well, she’s Emeris.

I put my hand on the glass as I muttered to myself... I’ve been talking to myself more than usual lately. "Who knows, maybe I won’t have to in the end."

I turned and headed out of my room... maybe I’ll go eat something, it’s almost lunchtime anyway.

With every step I felt the weakness in my body, as a side effect from the last time I met Mary yesterday, my sense covered a few dozen meters around me... and after days of practice, I’d already mastered this, after all I didn’t want to feel kilometers around me with every step I walked, especially here when there are many Rank 7s and 6s everywhere.

And while I was walking down the corridor to head downstairs, I happened to see Leona and Izel and three other girls at the elevator waiting for it to arrive... oh, and there between the three girls Elliot was hidden, and as I got closer, I heard some of what they were saying.

"We’re pinning our hopes on you, Elliot!"

"Come on!... you’re going to win so there’s no need to be modest." Their tone was soft, like they were trying to get close to him... they really were doing that.

I felt sick hearing that, and seeing him smile modestly and try to get away without embarrassing them made it worse... and I wasn’t the only one, both Leona and Izel wore a dead expression with their eyes fixed on the elevator screen, staring at the numbers changing slowly.

It arrived, which made them notice me, Leona smiled kindly. "Caius... do you want to have lunch with us since it looks like you’re free unlike someone." She threw a sharp look over her shoulder at someone.

I followed her look to Elliot and our eyes met, he opened his mouth maybe to justify himself, but I shook my head and clicked my tongue, before I answered Leona. "Sure, why not."

That’s when I noticed that Izel wasn’t looking at me... didn’t we get past this a long time ago on Ancient Earth.

Why is she ignoring me now, and it looks like Leona noticed that too as she leaned in to look at her face closely.

"What’s wrong with you Izel, why is your face red... did you two fight again?" She asked innocently as she pointed at me, which made Izel look me up and down with contempt... ironically, it was the same look she’d just given Elliot coming back to me from a different place.

"No..."

The realization crept into me as I smiled in amusement. "You know it’s not my fault you were in the wrong place at the wrong time with a cup of coffee."

She opened her mouth to object while Leona tilted her head innocently.

"What are you two talking about?"

...

We sat at a long table, near the wall of artificial waterfalls, sealed off behind glass.

"Look who decided to join us now!" Leona’s tone was free of her usual kindness as she stared at Elliot who pulled out the chair and had just joined.

We’d gone down to the first floor where the gardens and the courtyards are at the entrance of this resort, many other students were already there, some of them having lunch and others just walking around.

"Come on!, it’s not like there’s anything I can do." He complained like he was being wronged, while Izel clicked her tongue sarcastically. "Yeah... yeah, oh great hero... the key to our win in the tournament, and the most handsome man in the world... blah, blah."

I looked at Elliot then at the two girls before I turned my attention to the small screen on the table as I browsed the menu... I don’t know why this sounds like teenagers talking, well, maybe because we’re teenagers.

While I was thinking about what I’d order, Elliot asked, changing the subject quickly. "But Caius, where were you the past few days?"

I gave him a short look. "Sick."

Izel narrowed her eyes suspiciously while Leona blinked. "Sick?... how do you get sick?"

"Believe me... I’m more surprised than you." I answered briefly as I ordered some food, at that moment the chair beside me moved and someone sat on it.

"Can I join you guys?" Even though she was asking, she’d already sat down.

Elliot nodded respectfully to Emeris. "Of course."

Leona smiled welcoming her, but someone was staring at me so hard that a hole was going to form in the side of my forehead.

Noticing that, Emeris leaned in and gave a knowing smile to Izel before she elbowed me in the ribs without warning. "No words of welcome?"

I looked at her and saw that wicked smile... very wicked, to the point that she leaned closer to me and blinked like a little puppy. "Want to go on a tour around the city?... you know, we could consider it a da—"

I sighed, cutting her off. "No, I’m really tired." My refusal made her puff out her cheeks as she moved away and looked at the screen on the table. "How cruel of you."

No, I’m not cruel... it’s just that my legs are shaking.

"Hoho... I didn’t know you two were this close." Leona leaned on the table as she put her cheeks between her hands with a big smile on her face, her eyes moving between us like she was looking for invisible threads connecting us... Elliot was opening and closing his mouth slowly while Izel muttered something under her breath.

I ignored that, and every curious question Leona asked me... but Emeris answered with all the pride and bragging.

I got busy eating my food like a homeless person... the treatment was making me insanely hungry.

We were making conversation and so on... and those three could barely hold their mouths shut so they wouldn’t mention Ancient Earth in front of Emeris’s questions.

"That’s..." Elliot muttered something with his eyes wandering off

I followed his line of sight as I stared toward the main entrance of this resort dozens of meters away past the green garden, there dozens of people appeared walking in this direction.

Almost all of them were our age, surrounded by many strong people... there was even a King with them, which made me deactivate my ability so I could see clearly.

Everyone quickly noticed the arrival of the new delegation while Elliot muttered, "The Luminar Empire." Good thing he memorized his enemies.

All eyes were drawn to the two people at the front... twins, with the same faint blue hair color and dark eyes, I’d recognized them from one of the files I’d read... yeah, of course I studied my opponents.

Both of them were from the ducal Valkern family... Silas and Riven.

Silas walked steadily with a neutral expression beside his sister as he muttered something to her, the girl’s lips lifted and she raised her sunglasses above her short hair that barely reached her shoulders, with an excited smile her black eyes searched around the place until they landed on us and her smile got wider as she headed straight to us, abandoning the escorts and the rest of her companions behind her.

Silas held out his hand trying to stop her. "Hey Riven... don’t start with the nonsen—" She’d already disappeared as she appeared in front of us before anyone realized.

Holding her sunglasses she raised her chin a little. "Hello, our dear opponents... I know you know me and I know you, so let’s skip the names!"

I blinked... why are people acting so strange these days?... or is it me who was cut off from society?

The moment she noticed me staring she looked straight into my eyes as she winked at me with her long lashes. "Aren’t you Caius Astroweild, the famous commoner... honestly I expected to find you... you know, stronger."

I know I’m the wrong person to say this... but isn’t she way too arrogant.

I noticed the frown that formed on Emeris out of the corner of my eye, while Izel clicked her tongue as she faced this outside guest’s looks. "Are all Luminarians this nosy and full of themselves?"

Riven smiled as she stepped toward the nearest chair. "No, just me... anyway I’m really curious about this group that disappeared for a few months before coming back and stirring up noise everywhere."

And while her brother was coming closer with quick steps, Riven pulled the chair to sit, only for it to fall apart and its wooden legs to drop to the ground like they’d been cut with extreme precision, only the frame stayed hanging in her hand.

I saw the surprise on Elliot’s face, and Leona opening her mouth maybe to apologize, at the same time her brother arrived as he put his hand on her shoulder, his eyes fixed on us with a neutral expression. "Stop this and let’s go... now."

But Riven raised her chin with contempt as she looked straight at Emeris with a superior smile. "And who are you?"

Maybe I should’ve ordered some popcorn to watch.

Emeris tilted her head, her smile shining with dangerous amusement. "The one who’s going to slap your ass."
