Chapter 248: A Shadow
Chapter 248: A Shadow
Teenage drama... that’s how I can describe the current situation... of course I wasn’t one of them.
The moment Emeris threw out that insult, everyone went silent, even the nearby tables froze in tension, and the new delegation from Luminar a few meters away heard it clearly.
"Pffft..." A faint sound escaped my mouth but, in this silence, it was like beating war drums.
Silas’s eyes landed on me, his dark eyes not trying to hide any of the contempt he held after this. "Come on, stop playing kids’ games and let’s go." Without waiting he pulled his sister and dragged her with him as she threw one last look at Emeris with a clear warning. "I hope you remember this."
With that I watched them walk away as I brought the juice cup to my mouth before I glanced at Emeris after the urge to laugh faded. "Was that necessary?"
She shrugged. "She started it."
In front of us Elliot leaned in and whispered near Leona, "Why do those two look so much like each other?... it’s creepy." She shrugged. "Who knows."
After the Luminar delegation disappeared without starting a fight unfortunately... uh I mean luckily... time passed and the other two delegations arrived too.
This time I only saw them from a distance, the Auerlion delegation was mostly dark-skinned, and that mainly goes back to the nature of that desert land and the hot weather.
And looking at them you could see a lot of big builds and heavy muscles in their ranks, especially the males, to the point that I started suspecting Garon had roots from there... and let me say, most of them looked kind of impatient and quick to anger... and that’s another point for Garon.
Anyway, just like our Empire had many strong participants they did too, and among them one stood out from the rest... Demir.
He didn’t have a noble name, and it looks like he’s from humble origins, but he makes up the peak of Auerlion’s strength here as someone at Rank 4.
And the last to arrive was the Erebus delegation, and at their head was Theo Arlin, a noble young man at Rank 4 too... and let’s say he’s an extremely arrogant and fake person... how do I know without meeting him?
Well, everyone knows, he’s a content creator and runs streams on social media... I forget sometimes that these things exist.
And even though it’s still early, they gathered everyone here in one building... well, a huge, fancy, amazing resort.
And with the freedom to do as we pleased until the opening day, every person was doing what they wanted, whether training or relaxing or sightseeing... especially for the other delegations.
What am I doing?... well, with so many strong people around and even Kings, especially the ones who came as guards from the other Empires, I couldn’t train my sense anymore.
So, I wasn’t doing anything, I really had to rest from Mary’s treatment these days so I could use my body freely again when the time came.
Or at least I didn’t do anything useful... and honestly this was new to me, I mean my whole life. And literally all the memories I have in my head barely took more than three or four days of continuous rest... and here I am getting almost more than two weeks because of an old doctor... or healer or whatever.
And even though I was really trying to relax a little and turn my attention away from the anger and the problems planted in my body... it wasn’t working completely.
I always get thoughts like. What if I can’t get the Lifeweaver Serum even if I ask Elliot for it... what if Luminar simply refuses, or they don’t have it.
And staying in the fancy resort wasn’t my best option with all the sparks here and there between the different delegations, especially the Axis students with Luminar... they really don’t like us.... I mean I’d like them if they’d just give me what I want.
So, to stay away from any fights or unnecessary headaches, I spent most of my time outside wandering around the capital... sometimes alone and sometimes with the others.
The first time it was Ivan who insisted on following me, and Elliot joined which made Leona come too and Izel in turn... that was kind of fun.
Then the next day it was Emeris who dragged me outside, even though I was going anyway, she kept humming at my head the whole time as she asked about my problem again... when I answered that I was having physical problems, she went quiet for a while and her mischievous behavior disappeared.
In the end she switched to cursing Riven for some reason... and unexpectedly she didn’t try to repeat what happened at the Axis... maybe because she saw my mood wasn’t the best thing in the world these days.
And today here I am alone in these big, complicated streets.
The noise and the conversations of the passersby filled every inch of these streets, while I felt like a dwarf as I walked under the buildings that rise hundreds of meters, a mix between Ancient Earth architecture and the imagination of the future from the movies.
I was moving with no idea or direction, and that would lead to me finding myself lost in the end.
As time passed the streets became less crowded and the buildings smaller as I moved away from the city center.
"Looks like it’s almost lunchtime." I muttered as I glanced at the shop signs.
My sense covered just a few dozen meters around me, then slowly I let it expand and sweep across the whole street then the one after it and the one after, consuming a part of the city and flooding my head with a lot of sensory information for every soul moving here.
I did this sometimes, trying to submerge myself and drown in this sense hoping to discover something new.
"I feel like I’m missing something." While the radius reached a kilometer, a severe headache had started hitting me from all those sensations.
And while I was about to deactivate my ability, sharp pain flooded my head like lightning had struck me directly, and an electric sensation passed through my flesh.
Every hair on my body stood up, and I froze in place which made a man bump into me from behind and push me forward, shouting in an angry voice. "Watch where you’re standing, kid!"
But his voice faded into the noise, and the cold ran down my spine like death itself was behind me.
With a breath escaping my lungs, I turned my head toward the source of that feeling... that enormous soul, cold and dark at the end of the street...
But it was gone.
There wasn’t any strange person or soul in my sight.
Just a normal street, and normal people.
I let out the air that had frozen in my lungs. "What... what was that?"
I hesitated as I expanded my sense to the furthest limit but there wasn’t anything.
...
Several kilometers away, on the edges of the capital where the buildings shrank into just small, simple houses.
There at the end of one of the streets a hill of trimmed green grass stretched out, and at its end rose a black metal fence like ribs, behind it the stone gravestones were lined up one after another... it was a cemetery.
Under a big tree and in front of one of the graves deep in the cemetery, a man appeared... like he’d stepped out of the shadows, his features weren’t completely clear, except for raven-black hair tied in a ponytail.
"Hmm... strong senses." He muttered, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand and staring at the old grave.
His face softened, and a big smile formed on it... a happy smile.
