After getting annoyingly sidetracked by everything I had been discussing with Aquarina about our future, Ruby finally set us back on track. She interrupted our conversation at exactly the right moment, since those plans really should not have been the priority right then.
"Okay, enough chit-chat, you two!" Ruby called out, cutting through our royal daydreams with her usual energy. "I remember the girls were up there. Let's go!"
"A-Ah, right!" I nodded quickly. "Let's move."
We hurried through the streets of the rebuilding city. All around us, people worked hard to restore what had been damaged. Aquarina walked close beside me and spoke while admiring the reconstruction efforts unfolding on every side.
"Weren't we going to make something like an orphanage?" she asked, a faint sadness coloring her voice. "Did you forget about that?"
"Ah! No, I haven't forgotten at all," I answered right away. "Of course we can still do that, baby. Don't worry." I reached over and held her hand firmly. "And I never said I was becoming a queen, okay? Plus I kind of hate the idea anyway."
"I… well, I don't want to get in the way of your future," she said softly. "We both know that… you'll live for a while longer… so don't let me slow you down."
"What?!" I stopped for a second, shocked by her words. "What are you even talking about?"
"It's just the truth," she replied with a mild, almost resigned smile. "I realize now that you've got a really big future ahead of you, one that goes beyond what any of us present might live to see… so I don't want to hold you back. That's all."
I looked down for a moment, letting her words settle in my mind.
"But my future is with you," I said at last, tightening my grip on her hand. "I don't see a future where you're not with me."
"…!" Aquarina's cheeks flushed bright red as she heard me. She covered her mouth with one hand and stopped walking completely. "R-Really?" Her eyes had suddenly grown teary.
I had not expected those words to hit her so hard, but clearly they had.
"Of course," I smiled, still holding her hand. "I love you so, so much! I don't want any future that doesn't have you in it…"
"Sylphy…" Aquarina started crying against my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around her tightly and held her close.
"Aw, my cute baby… I love you," I whispered, kissing her cheeks and gently wiping away her tears. "Don't cry, okay?" I cleared the last of the tears and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. "You're so cute! Hehe."
"Hmm…" She grew embarrassed, crossing her arms and pouting cutely. "I-I'm not a cute baby!"
"Hahaha, I'm just saying!" I hugged her again and used my wings to lift myself so we were face to face. "But you are my cute babe though."
"Heh…" She giggled a little despite herself, smiling as she leaned in to kiss my lips in return. "You sure? Y-You sure that's what you want? To be with me over everything else that awaits you? Over all the greatness you could achieve?"
"Who says I cannot achieve it with you right there beside me? The orphanage? We'll make it happen!" I nodded firmly. "We can do multiple things at the same time, but… I still think about and fantasize over that ideal future. Just you and me, living in a big house out in an open grassland or something like that, with a river close by and a village only a few miles away. We could build the place into a huge area full of rooms and gardens, and we could help the orphans from the war grow up in a warm, safe environment… even if raising so many kids is going to be really tiring."
"Hahaha! It's just an idea. I really can't see us actually doing that though," she giggled, the earlier sadness fading from her expression. "But we can manage them somehow, yeah… Plus, didn't you want to start a business too? We'll still have to head to the academy soon, but we could start something in the capital…"
"Yeah, I know. We can start by living together just the two of us as well," I said. "Or would that feel too lonely?"
"With all our familiars around? I doubt it. It's already a massive family of goofy creatures," she giggled again.
"Riiiiight. Can't we give some of them away for adoption?" I wondered out loud, rubbing my chin thoughtfully. "There's one especially annoying little guy with red scales who spits fire. He's way too much of a problematic kid for my liking…"
"I heard that!" Ignatius growled from the side. He appeared as a small, angry ember floating above my head and immediately started biting at my hair.
"Hahahahaha!"
We ended up laughing together while Ignatius continued growling and tugging at my hair in frustration. Luckily he could not burn a single strand or pull any of it free.

As we continued exploring the recovering city, we finally came across some familiar faces. A pair of young men and women were hard at work helping the people in need.
A cute sheep girl stood over a massive cauldron, cooking a large pot of stew. She carefully added all sorts of magical and glowing ingredients, and even guided spirits into the pot with practiced ease.
Wow… is that Spirit Cooking in action? I have that skill too!
Beside her was an adorable demon girl with pale skin, fluffy white hair, four eyes, and a pair of black horns. She wore a big, warm smile full of love for everyone around her as she baked fresh bread and handed it out to the waiting crowd.
Standing close by their sides were the loves of their lives, just as busy as they were. The two young men worked together grilling and cutting large chunks of meat from monsters that had been hunted outside the city. Every piece had been carefully purified of any lingering curse before being prepared to feed the hungry people.
