Chapter 2158: Planning What To Do Next, Many Places To Visit!
-----
After everything that had happened, we spent some quiet time together eating and talking about what was coming for our future and what we each wanted to do with our own lives.
Beyond constantly fighting our foes or dealing with whatever new threat appeared next, we also needed to concentrate on our personal lives and the things we actually wanted for ourselves. After all, none of us lived only to fight insane old evil gods, right?
We all wanted lives that were not solely defined by these endless battles and crises.
And while they asked me a lot of questions about my own plans, I also wanted to know more about what everyone else was thinking or planning, especially my brother.
"I mean, um, what about you, Zephyrus? What do you want?" I asked him directly.
"Me? Actually, mom's idea sounds good," he answered thoughtfully. "I also want to return to our house and just relax for a while… I'll go on dates with Celica, hang out with you guys, and spend time studying and training for now."
"Hm," I nodded slowly. "I guess it's time to just let life continue and wait until something big happens again…" I sighed. "I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I just… I guess I'm not used to being passive about these kinds of situations."
"We could go to the sea again," Aquarina suggested with a bright smile. "Oh! Maybe we can bring you guys to Everstone so you can meet the friends I made over there!"
"Oh? That sounds interesting!" I said, feeling a spark of curiosity. "You also mentioned there was a suspicious dungeon over there, right? Do you remember?"
"Ah!" Nepheline gasped as the memory returned. "Right, the Dungeon with the snail people… we kind of left that unresolved after we couldn't really communicate with their ruler. They just didn't want to let us inside."
"Security was extremely tight… we didn't want to create more conflicts, so we decided to leave," Shade added. "They live completely underground, so it's not like they pose an immediate threat to anybody on the surface. But still, that whole situation was very mysterious."
"We could go take another look at that…" I said with a thoughtful nod. "Maybe we can finally find out what's going on with that city and those people. Like, why are they even living inside a dungeon out of nowhere?"
"It is indeed very rare," my mother agreed. "I would like to investigate that place as well."
"Me too," my father said quietly.
"Sounds like a nice tourist spot!" my uncle joked with a grin. "Why not, right? For the sake of having fun, kicking back, and relaxing and— Nah, I bet some awful thing is going to eventually happen anyway, right? It always does." He sighed in mock resignation.
"W-Well, we aren't there yet, so try to relax," my mother said gently. "Hmm, where else could we go? Ah…! Allan! Why don't we bring our kids to meet your family?"
"Pffff…!" my father suddenly coughed and spit the coffee he was drinking straight onto the floor. "W-Wha…? What?!"
We all turned to look at dad with a mixture of curiosity and concern. Why did he have such a strong reaction to that suggestion?
I genuinely wanted to meet the rest of my family on my father's side.
"That sounds fun. Why not?" I asked with a nod. "Dad, why… why did you react like that though?"
"I-I… uh, well…" he muttered, looking rather concerned and uncomfortable. "It's a long story, baby girl… it's… it's just that… um. My family, the Bravo Mercenaries, are quite something. I… Uh, yeah. I haven't seen them in years, you know? Not since I left… I only returned once to tell them I was getting married to an elf, and they all looked at me with weird faces. I ended up leaving after a big fight with my father because… he wanted me to marry someone else he had already arranged a marriage with, someone from another clan in the plains… so… it would be awkward… to return now."
"I didn't know that…" I muttered, feeling a little surprised. "I… um…"
"And so what? Does it really matter?" my brother asked firmly. "Come on, dad. We can still go anyway, no? If they get mad, they'll get mad and that's it. They'll just have to accept that you're with our mother and that we are your children."
"Yeah!" I nodded in agreement. "Surely not everyone in your family is like your dad, right?"
"No, of course not… I think mom would be happy to see me again…" he sighed heavily. "My family is just more… it's different from everyone else's. Shade and Nepheline, you guys are orphans… Faylen, you had your big elven family and everything. But mine? When you compare it to the rest of the world it's a huge family, a whole clan. They all have the same damn hair color as I do, you know? It's massive. They're descendants of old Barbarian Tribes from long ago who became Nomadic Mercenaries, working for whoever paid them the best. But above all… returning to the human continent is dangerous. We could get attacked by them."
"Dad, you're worrying too much," I sighed and facepalmed lightly. "We just finished defeating a god and you're still worried about what some regular humans might do?"
"It's a little over the top. Relax," my brother said with a calm nod. "Well, we can go whenever you decide. There's no real hurry…"
"Hmmm…" my father nodded slowly as he felt my mother's reassuring hand rest on his shoulder. "No, I mean… I shouldn't really deny you guys the privilege of meeting your family. This is not something I can decide for you. You're free to go see them… I have no right to stop you."
"It's fine. We can think about that later," I sighed and shrugged. "Well, going to the capital is also still an option!"
"There's still plenty of work to be done here," Aquarina's father reminded us. "The Underground Tower still has over half of its monsters alive, and its bosses remain just as intelligent as always. The other dungeons have been sealed for now, but they remain cursed. That's why some people wanted you to absorb those dungeons and turn them into your own."
"I see…"
Right. I had almost forgotten about that remaining responsibility.
However, was there something else we still needed to address?
"What about Lolth?" I asked.
