Chapter 2161: Moving To The Dragon Tomb Dungeon
Chapter 2161: Moving To The Dragon Tomb Dungeon
-----
After enjoying a quiet breakfast together, we moved in silence back toward Evercraft, walking along the route that led to the mountain where the Dragon Tomb Dungeon was located. This was a dangerous path that most people preferred to avoid entirely. It not only led to the most dangerous dungeon in the entire region, but it was also home to a large number of Wild Monsters that roamed freely through the snow and rocky terrain.
Wild Monsters were different from the creatures generated inside Dungeons. They were more like ordinary wild animals in many ways. Unlike Dungeon-born monsters, they were not affected by the strange power that turned those beings into intelligent, sapient creatures capable of speech and strategy.
Nonetheless, they remained extremely dangerous, especially after that strange divine dust rain that had fallen from the sky when we shattered the glass teapot with the combined efforts of everyone present, including Yggdrasil and her divine spirit children. The residual energy from that event had made even ordinary beasts more aggressive and powerful than before.
To add salt to the wound regarding this already dangerous path, there was also Lolth’s lingering presence hanging heavily in the air. Even though she was sealed, her power could still be felt strongly with every step we took. The people of the region were naturally afraid and terrified of that monster. She had caused so much chaos and destruction that the idea of an evil god living so close to them—even if it was on another mountain entirely—was deeply unsettling for everyone who lived nearby.
These mountains were all quite close to one another, which only made her presence feel much nearer than it should have. Even while suppressed and sealed, the dungeon still leaked so much miasma that a thick black aura poured out of it like a slow sea of darkness spreading across the snow-covered slopes.
I did not doubt Grandpa’s amazing Sealing Magic. It was what had allowed everyone to live more comfortably in recent times. Yet it was not completely indestructible, and there remained a real chance that it could eventually weaken or break under enough pressure.
Even as we moved forward with outward confidence, my heart could not help but harbor deep doubts about her words. Everyone had made her sound so strange to me. What was she really planning? What exactly was her end game? I was so nervous that I could barely think straight at times because of that woman and the uncertainty surrounding her.
Could she truly be planning an alliance and surrendering to us? Could we really live together in some form of harmony? A giant, ugly, creepy spider monstrosity living among us and smiling in a happy-go-lucky way? No, that was impossible. That would never happen. I knew her. I had fought her. Lolth was not that type of evil god.
She was merciless. She was monstrous. She enjoyed slaughter and the suffering of others. Why would she ever suggest an alliance unless she had been cornered against her own will and left with no other options?
In the end, this entire suggestion and her words about wanting an alliance...
It was her fear speaking.
There was no goodwill behind her words, and there was no true regret either. Only calculation and self-preservation.
I really could not relax as we continued walking forward through the thick snow, each step crunching loudly in the otherwise quiet landscape.
It did not help that the moment we arrived near the old stone bridge, the skies rumbled loudly overhead and the snow around us began to explode upward into the air in sudden, violent bursts.
"Are you kidding me?!" I cried out in frustration, already feeling the weight of the day pressing down on me.
RUMBLE!
The ground beneath the bridge trembled violently. The snow flew high into the sky in great white clouds, revealing several massive monsters that had been waiting patiently beneath the surface for us to pass through this exact spot.
They were enormous, fifteen-meter-tall giants with pale blue skin that blended almost perfectly with the snow, a single huge eye in the center of their heads, and long, spiky horns made of pure ice that gleamed under the weak sunlight.
"Frost Cyclops, Tier 8 Monsters! It’s a whole family of them!" Alice said quickly as she analyzed them ahead of me, her voice tight with urgency.
"Why are they here?!" I asked in disbelief. "Don’t tell me they were waiting for us?!"
"No, these do not originate from dungeons," Felicia explained calmly while standing behind me. "They are just wild barbarian monster races that like to hunt humans whenever they can find them. This path has been unused for so long that they have taken it as their personal territory. We simply happened to stand in their way at the wrong time."
"Should we run? We don’t need to fight right now, do we?" Lara wondered while tilting her head nervously and glancing at the rest of us for guidance.
"GROOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!"
The largest of the Frost Cyclops—a great Patriarch with deep scars across his broad chest—roared furiously and swung a titanic club of solid frost toward Lara with surprising speed. He moved so quickly that almost no one could react in time to protect her.
Except for me.
CLAAAASH!
Moving purely on instinct, I blocked the massive strike with my bare hands. Flames and red scales surged across my skin in an instant as the giant ice club melted and exploded into thick clouds of hot vapor that filled the air.
BOOOM!!!
Amidst the thick rising steam, my body was revealed in its changed form, tough red scales covering my arms and shoulders completely.
"It activated on its own...!"
It almost felt as though my Skills were "alive" and responded automatically to certain dangers and situations, just like my own body sometimes did without any conscious thought on my part.
It was incredible and more than a little unsettling.
The Skill that had activated was even an unnamed one: the [True Dragon Spirit Soul Heart: Divine Weredragon Lineage].
