Chapter 437: UNKNOWN DRAGON II
Chapter 437: UNKNOWN DRAGON II
"Hmm. You do know my race. Those eyes of yours might be the most special thing about you," the dragon, already found out, replied before taking his seat on a nearby chair without invitation.
The wood creaked faintly under his weight, the room’s sparse furniture suddenly feeling inadequate in his presence.
"I didn’t ask you to sit," Aaron said, his gaze narrowing slightly, a flicker of irritation crossing his features.
"And I don’t need your permission to do that," the dragon countered smoothly, leaning back with an air of effortless authority, his golden eyes locked onto Aaron’s.
"Tch. What do you want? I need to sleep," Aaron asked straight, his patience wearing thin, the yawn from earlier still lingering in his mind as fatigue tugged at him.
"I’m here to offer you a chance to greatness," the dragon offered, his words hanging in the air like a tempting veil, his calm expression unchanging.
"Sorry. But I’m not interested. I prefer to be free," Aaron declined immediately, shaking his head with a dismissive wave, uninterested in whatever strings might come attached.
"You haven’t even heard what I’m offering," the dragon said with an amusing smile on his face, his lips curling upward in a way that revealed sharp, subtle fangs glinting in the low light.
"I’d rather not. It will likely be in line with, in return for my loyalty, I will be offered protection, power, authority, respect, blah blah blah. Well, my decision remains the same," Aaron replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm, mimicking the offer with exaggerated boredom.
"Hmm. Honestly, you are quite the interesting young man. The confidence exuding from you, it’s been a while since I’ve seen any like it. But you should know, soon enough you will need to pick a side," the dragon advised, his tone shifting to something more serious, like a mentor imparting wisdom to a wayward pupil.
"When a flower blooms brilliantly, it is either made use of, or trampled. Do not allow yourself to be trampled on. Serve and enjoy protection," the dragon added, his words poetic yet laced with an underlying warning, his broad shoulders shifting slightly as he emphasized the point.
"Hah. Now you’re beginning to annoy me. I told you before, I’m not interested," Aaron rejected, his eyes flashing with impatience, the room’s shadows seeming to deepen around him in response to his growing irritation.
"I see. But you know, your origin is still very mysterious. There’s even the possibility that you might be in league with the Celestial Devourer," the dragon said coldly, his aura flaring outward like a sudden gust of wind, filling the space with oppressive pressure that made the air feel thick and heavy.
"Oh?" Aaron smiled, not the least bit fazed by the dragon’s flaring aura, his own stance relaxed as if lounging in a gentle breeze rather than under draconic might.
He knew exactly the dragon’s intent, to subtly influence his decision by making an underlying threat, the kind that whispered of consequences without direct confrontation.
The dragon studied the composed look on Aaron’s face, his golden slit eyes narrowing in appraisal.
His evaluation of Aaron increased further in his mind, recognizing the unyielding spirit before him.
"Don’t you think it’s about time you rein in your aura? We both know you’re not going to attack," Aaron finally spoke after minutes of the dragon not reacting aside from releasing his pressure, his voice steady and almost casual, breaking the tense silence.
"The confidence to not cower, it’s impressive, and truly the way of dragons. I look forward to watching your performance in the grandest of stages," the dragon added, his bold voice softening slightly with genuine intrigue.
Reining in his aura, the oppressive weight lifting like fog dissipating at dawn, he decided to take his leave finally, rising from the chair with graceful power.
"Ah. It all makes sense now. This event, you guys have a hidden motive. It’s not to deal with the Celestial Devourer," Aaron was quick to piece things together, his mind racing through the implications like puzzle pieces snapping into place.
"Your brain works fast. Indeed. The Sovereigns have never cared about the Celestial Devourer. He’s just an annoying pest the Sovereigns are just allowing to run amok for the time being as a distraction," the dragon replied, a smile on his face that revealed a hint of sharp teeth, his dark skin catching the moonlight as he turned toward the window.
"I see. The Sovereigns have more interesting things going on behind the scenes. I wonder what it is," Aaron muttered, his curiosity piqued, eyes gleaming with the thrill of uncovering secrets in the vast cosmic web.
"Well. That’s as far as your imagination can roam. Go any further and you might risk your own safety," the dragon said, stopping Aaron right in his tracks, his voice a firm barrier like an invisible wall erected in the conversation.
"Improve even more. Till we see again, Jordan Hayes," the dragon concluded, his form beginning to fade into the shadows.
Aaron watched the dragon disappear, his body flickering out of sight from his swift movement, leaving only a faint ripple in the air like heat distortion over pavement.
"Just a pest, huh? I will make sure the Sovereigns regret ever writing me off that way," Aaron smiled, finding the dragon’s words to be nothing but a challenge that ignited a fire in his chest, his arrogance fueling the determination.
---
As usual, Aaron waited for nighttime to fully descend, the stars twinkling outside his window like distant promises, to indulge in his extracurricular activities.
The room grew quieter, the day’s echoes fading into stillness.
The particular night was going to be a long one, the hours stretching ahead like an endless corridor filled with opportunities and risks.
Aaron had his eyes on an entire super cluster, the vast expanse of galaxies swirling in his mind’s eye, teeming with potential targets and hidden treasures.
Yes, he was prepared to make a massive move now, his plans meticulously laid out like a strategist plotting on a cosmic map.
And Lilith was ready to help him out.
