Chapter 436: UNKNOWN DRAGON

Chapter 436: UNKNOWN DRAGON

"Governor, you can’t allow him to act so unruly. His actions are an outright disrespect to your authority!" one of the administrators reported to Nick, his voice laced with urgency and a hint of scheming hope to ignite Nick’s anger.

"Speak out of line one more time, or try to incite me, and I will have to strip you completely of all your authority," Nick warned coldly, his tone sharp like a blade drawn from its sheath, eyes narrowing with unyielding resolve.

The administrator, seeing the angry look etched across Nick’s face like storm clouds gathering, forced himself to shut his mouth.

Fear gripped him tightly, afraid to further anger Nick and risk the consequences that loomed like a shadow.

With that out of the way, Nick addressed the rest of the participants after the end of the event, his voice projecting clearly over the assembled crowd.

"Congratulations on successfully finishing the second and last phase of the military assessment," he announced, his words carrying a formal weight that echoed off the walls.

"But of course, only a few can advance to an even grander stage for the hunt against the universe pest," Nick added, taking a sweeping gaze over everybody present.

His eyes scanned the faces, some eager, others weary, under the dim glow of overhead lights.

"Only the top fifty with the most points in the second phase can move on to the grand and final stage of the last military assessment.

An assessment organized by the sovereign itself, where only the best of the best will be selected to join the hunt team. Now rest, and wait for more information," Nick informed, his posture straight and commanding, emphasizing the prestige of the opportunity.

Afterward, he left the platform, his steps measured and purposeful, disappearing into the corridors beyond as murmurs rippled through the group.

Aaron remained in his room, waiting patiently for nighttime to descend. The space was dimly lit, shadows playing across the plain walls, with only the soft hum of distant machinery breaking the silence.

"You really need to tone down your arrogance, or force me to take drastic actions," a cold, angry voice reached Aaron’s ears, the source emanating from his windows where moonlight filtered through thin curtains.

"Nick—"

"It’s Governor to you. Know your place. I have allowed you to act too arrogant for a while now," Nick corrected almost instantly, cutting Aaron short with a firm interruption, his silhouette framed against the glass like a sentinel in the night.

Aaron simply smiled, saying nothing more, his lips curving into a subtle, knowing grin that hid deeper thoughts swirling in his mind.

"Well, if that’s the reason you are here, then you can leave. I can take care of myself from here," Aaron replied casually, leaning back against the wall with relaxed ease.

Nick frowned, finding Aaron’s arrogance to be frustrating, a vein pulsing faintly on his forehead as he wrestled with his irritation.

But then again, he couldn’t do much.

For some reasons, his instincts warned him against making an enemy of Aaron, a gut feeling that prickled like a sixth sense honed from years of experience.

And Nick had always been one to trust his guts, relying on them like an invisible compass in treacherous waters.

"Sigh. Just get ready. Soon you will be returning to the sovereign galaxy once more for the final assessment round. So glad to have you off my shoulders," Nick replied, conceding in the end, his voice tinged with reluctant resignation as he exhaled deeply.

"Hmm. I like you. You know when to fold," Aaron raised his hands, giving a thumbs up to Nick, the gesture playful yet laced with underlying mockery.

Nick rolled his eyes, holding his rage barely in check, his jaw clenching as he suppressed the urge to retort sharply.

With nothing else to say, he decided to leave through the exact window he had passed through, his form slipping out into the night with practiced stealth.

"By the way, you know I won’t hesitate to kill anybody that comes for my possessions, right?" Aaron asked calmly, his voice steady and devoid of emotion, cutting through the quiet like a whisper of wind.

Nick was forced to stop his retreat on Aaron’s words, freezing mid-motion as the implication sank in.

Nick paused, staring deep into Aaron’s eyes, noticing the seriousness etched in his expression, a cold intensity that made the air feel heavier, charged with unspoken threat.

"It will simply be self-defense," Nick replied to Aaron, his tone measured, acknowledging the boundary without fully conceding.

"But you can only retaliate when a move is made against you. Aside from that, I’ll be forced to persecute you myself," Nick informed, his words a clear line drawn in the sand, emphasizing the rules with authoritative finality.

"That’s a deal," Aaron nodded his head in agreement, a subtle dip of acknowledgment that sealed the understanding between them.

With that settled, Nick departed, leaving Aaron to his alone time, the window closing softly behind him as the night enveloped his retreating figure.

"Now that he’s gone, I’m sure you heard him clearly. I can kill anyone that attacks first. So I will advise you, don’t be stupid," Aaron said coldly, staring at the hidden section of his wall with unblinking focus.

His killing intent threatened to leak out, a palpable aura that thickened the atmosphere, making the shadows seem to deepen in response.

"Hah. To notice me. Quite the sharp sense you have," a deep, bold voice replied to Aaron’s threat, echoing slightly in the dimly lit room like thunder rolling in the distance.

Stepping out from the corner was a man with dark skin, his irises slit like a reptile’s, gleaming with a golden hue that caught the faint light from the window.

His eyes seemed to pierce through the shadows, ancient and knowing.

He had broad shoulders that spoke of immense strength, and a calm expression on his face, unruffled as if the tension in the air meant nothing to him.

"Jordan Hayes. Quite the arrogant human you are. But you have the skills to match your arrogance, to be honest. Consider me impressed," the being praised, his voice carrying a grudging respect laced with amusement.

"I’m not a fan of dragons that sneak up on me," Aaron replied, cold as ever, his tone flat and unyielding, arms crossed over his chest in casual defiance.
