Chapter 1051: Reave Town
Chapter 1051: Reave Town
While Gentle Wind and Autumn Breeze caught up in their latest antics amidst the lively atmosphere, elsewhere, the atmosphere was no different than a ghost town.
Bilgewater, Reave Town
Just a few miles across and near the Twilight Glades stood the Reave Town.
Despite its initial glamorous opening, the town appeared to have multiple openings that enabled monsters and Bounty Players to camp around.
There weren’t many NPC guards patrolling the vicinity, and there were less than 2 digits of players that remained in the town.
These players that remained didn’t stay because they preferred Reave Town.
Instead, they were broke and had no other option but to stick around.
"Ugh, if only I didn’t blow all my spending to come over here." A player lamented at a desolate tavern to his companions.
"Same here. I can’t believe I got scammed into coming to this godforsaken place. I’ve been killed and PKed so many times that I’m on the verge of quitting altogether."
"It’s all Reaver Guild’s fault. Actually no, it’s all the Illuminati’s fault. Why in the world are they trying to compete with someone clearly superior?"
As soon as the Reaver Guild and Illuminati’s names were dropped in the tavern, almost every player within the tavern exhaled deeply simultaneously.
Nothing could be more frustrating than placing your investment in hopes of winning big, only to end up losing everything.
What made it worse was that the investment appeared to be prosperous and booming initially!
Meanwhile, some Reaver Guild members sitting in the same tavern frowned deeply when they overheard these players lamenting and blaming their guild once again.
"Fuck, these players are really scum." A Reaver member clenched his fist tightly and hoped to knock some senses out of these whiners.
Not once had they ever forced anyone to come to their town and invest heavily.
All they did was offer the exact same thing as advertised.
Moreover, they even lowered the prices in so many venues, enabling these ungrateful players to save a lot of money.
Yet they acted as if they didn’t reap any benefit and shifted all the blame to their Reaver Guild.
"Save your breath. They’re openly dissing us because they know if we make a move against them now, then the only one in shambles would be us." Another Reaver member commented and shook their head.
"Are you not frustrated by the circumstances?" Asked their companion.
"What’s there to be frustrated about? The opposing side is superior and the players aren’t brain dead to not know what benefits them more." They shrugged their shoulders and proceeded to eat their meal.
While this was happening in the tavern, it was also happening all across the town.
Town Hall
At the town hall, an emergency meeting was being held.
Situated at the center of the meeting table was Scythe aka Gao Zhong.
"Miss representative, I wonder what other marvelous idea you have in mind." Gao Zhong turned his attention to one particular woman and asked sarcastically.
"You have become very famous as of late. Every other first-rate and Super Guilds are looking at us, scrutinizing our every action and movement."𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Needless to say, the person Gao Zhong was speaking to was none other than Natasha of the Illuminati.
She had promptly returned to the Reave Town after being harshly criticized and reprimanded by the higher-ups. In the end, she got off with a severe warning and was ordered to salvage the declining situation in Reave Town.
Who could have imagined the moment she returned, she would be facing this useless heir’s questioning?
"I may have met with a mishap, but that’s because someone failed to identify a mole in his own guild." Natasha tapped her fingers on the table repeatedly, her eyes scanning around the members in the meeting room.
As she finished scanning around, her eyes turned cold and fierce. "Besides, you have the time for sarcastic remarks, but how come you don’t have the time to handle the PR issues? And why has the NPC guards’ patrol decreased by a sharp margin? Who would want to come to a town without any security insurance?"
Being bombarded with a series of questions, Gao Zhong’s body jolted slightly.
He didn’t anticipate his attempt to reclaim authority from Natasha would end up backfiring hard on him.
’Damn, what is her actual identity? How come the Illuminati just let her off easy like this?’ Gao Zhong cursed silently, feeling like some nepotism was at play.
Little did Gao Zhong realize it, but he was also a beneficiary of the nepotism practice.
"Why haven’t you answered my questions, Mister Scythe?" Natasha questioned coldly.
"I— uh..." Speechless, Gao Zhong didn’t know how to answer any of them.
Just when he thought he was going to be made a fool, a voice suddenly intervened.
"Replying to Miss Natasha, it’s not that the Guild Leader refuses to deploy more NPC guards, but we lack the necessary funds." Hundred Ghost stood up from his seat and said, "If we didn’t push for many discounts and low prices to attract players to compete with the Vanguard Guild town, then we would have enough funding to stabilize the town’s defenses instead."
"And you are?" Natasha raised an eyebrow.
"He’s Hundred Ghost, one of my trusted subordinates." Gao Zhong quickly explained and appeared quite prideful.
Never once had Gao Zhong anticipated this usually disappointing subordinate of his to step up and assist him greatly.
’This Hundred Ghost truly is one loyal subordinate.’ Gao Zhong thought to himself. To save him from enduring another round of embarrassment and regaining the momentum was definitely something he appreciated.
Meanwhile, Jason and the other Reaver Guild’s higher-ups were stoned when they noticed Hundred Ghost was taking the lead to rise.
With the atmosphere turning tense, Natasha was about to lash out when she received a message notification.
In the blink of an eye, she opened it and read the message.
"The Vanguard Guild responded that the peace talk isn’t available at the moment due to the influx of traffic in their town." She took a deep breath and relayed the news to the people in the meeting room.
